Extended Summary

A number of cuts were made to this episode when it aired in the UK on five. This page details those cuts.

A full summary of the Cut version of the episode can be read at the bottom of the page.

Early in the episode, after Jesse and Rhys are discussing how the party has got out of hand, Jesse says there is no point in involving the police and tells Rhys “Don’t make trouble where there isn’t any.” He turns back to watch the crowd. A drunken teenager staggers past Kirsty and Kane and bumps into Kirsty, possibly spilling her drink. “Are you alright?” she asks him, obviously annoyed. “Chill out, it was an accident” the lad replies. “Yeah, well just watch it all right” Kirsty warns him. Kane intervenes, saying to the bloke “Hey, are you alright, mate”. “Yeah, sorry mate” he replies and moves away. Kirsty tells Kane “I’ll be back in a minute”. He asks if she’s OK and she says she needs air, walking off. (The bloke who bumped into Kirsty can be seen briefly in the foreground on Five).

Section 2
A scene or so later, Kirsty and Kane are talking outside after that bloke (Jamie?) has tried cracking onto her. They start to head back inside. Inside, Henry and Max are seen in a ‘long shot’, sitting on a bench or speaker. Max is holding the bowl of spiked punch. “Stop hogging it, M” says Henry. “Conservation, H” he replies, his speech a little slurred. “You can’t drink the whole lot – gotta save some”. “Yeah right, and you’d go swimming in it!” says Henry sarcastically. Emma approaches and calls “Hey!”. Max and Henry both say hello and Henry jumps down asking “What’s your star sign?”.

Section 3
After Colleen has given Hayley her present, Hayley is teasing Noah about the wedding saying he can share the day with her as long as he’s good! They begin kissing. Seb is seen walking through the crowd towards Jade who appears to be very drunk. When he approaches her she complains “Seb, this is getting really boring”, presumably referring to either his ‘attitude’ or the party. “You’re drunk, I’m taking you home” he tells her. “No way!” she protests. “You need to take it easy” he continues. ” I know you’re cut up about your family and everything…” Jade just grins at him. “You know I love you, you’re a great guy” she says, flirting with him and trying to put her arms around him and kiss him. “Why don’t we blow this party off and go down to the beach and.. you know..” she says suggestively. Seb is having none of it. “Two reasons”, he replies. “One – I don’t want to disappoint Robbie”. “He’ll be cool” Jade says, kissing Seb repeatedly on the face. “And two” he continues, “I don’t want to do anything with my girlfriend she won’t even remember in the morning.” Jade protests “Oh come on, don’t be like that. Life’s too short not to have some fun”…

Section 4
Later in the episode, after Morag has turned off the music and attempted to get rid of the gatecrashers, Seb goes up to Kim and asks if he’s seen Jade anywhere. Kim says she went outside a little while ago. “Was she with anyone?” Seb asks. ” Your cousin, I think” Kim tells him. As Seb walks off, Robbie approaches Kim shouting “Hey, I think I’ve lost my car keys. You haven’t seen them?” Kim jokes “You should ask the Dragon Lady to make an announcement”, pointing towards Morag (who is out of shot). “Yeah, she’s not gonna be happy until she ruins the whole night” Robbie comments. They laugh, and Morag is shown talking to Alf. The action cuts to Duncan and Jade outside approaching Robbie’s car (as seen on Five). After the two cars race off, there was an ad-break in Australia.

Section 5
Returning from the break, we are shown Robbie looking for his car keys. Kirsty and Kane have been helping him. “Rob, we’ve looked everywhere – no luck” Kirsty tells him. “Well, they’ve gotta be somewhere!” he cries. “Maybe someone’s nicked them?” suggests Kane, but Robbie doesn’t think so saying “As if anyone’s gonna do that”. Kim then hurries over calling “Rob, Rob! Hey, you’re not going to like this – Jade and Duncan have taken your car”. Robbie is shocked and Kim says he heard someone mention the “Bluff”. Kane says “Come on, we’ll take my car” and Rhys calls out “Go, go, go”. A further inexplicable cut follows: “Move” Kane shouts at someone. “I’m coming too” Kirsty says to Kane. “No, babes, you’ll have to wait here” he tells her. The action moves outside. “I’m not staying, no!” Kirsty continues to protest, “Kane…” Rhys interrupts her saying “You’re staying here and looking after Max.” They hurry off towards Kane’s car as the police arrive at the Surf Club…

Section 6
Rhys and Kane chase after Jade and Duncan, while Seb does his best to try and make Duncan stop the car. When the car goes over the cliff, there is a close-up of Rhys shouting ‘Jade!’. In the Aussie episode, the car is seen landing on the rocks, Seb still on the bonnet. There’s a further close-up of Rhys’ face, then a shot of Seb falling from the bonnet onto the rocks. The car is then seen close-up followed by another shot of Rhys.

OUTSIDE SURF CLUB
More and more people are arriving as Duncan stands alone outside, watching Robbie et al admiring his car. He is joined by Alf, who had wondered where he had got to. Alf isn’t happy that Duncan is completely pissed, but Duncan casually informs him that it’s a party – they should enjoy themselves. Duncan turns his back on his Dad and walks off as Alf bellows after him, before running to catch up.

Alf follows Duncan inside, only to find Morag lying in wait, remarking about Duncan’s holiday entertainment. It seems that Duncan neglected to mention to Alf that Morag was to be visiting, and although Duncan is plased to see her, Alf isn’t exactly full of joy. Duncan drags a bewildered and disorientated Morag away to meet his mates.
Jesse presents Hayley with her birthday pressie (from Nick?) – a movie script, signed by all the actors, and Hayley rushes off to show Irene.
Jesse wandrs over for as word with Rhys, whose frown is growing larger by the minute. He has worked out the high proportion of gatecrashers, and suggests calling the police, but Jesse doesn’t see much point – all the kids are doing is having fun.
Kirsty tells Kane that she’ll be back in a second – she needs some air.

Outside, Kirsty gets out of the way of the crowds, adopting an odd swagger. She manages to attract the attention of a trio of louts, one of whom proceeds to follow her around the corner, protesting that he’s a nice guy and insisting on a dance. She tries to get rid of him, and out of nowhere Kane swoops in to her rescue, giving creepy-guy a violent shove away from his wife. Creepy-guy backs down, remarking that he didn’t know Kirsty had a boyfriend (er, like he knows anything about Kirsty), and Kane informs him that she DOESN’T have a boyfriend… she has a husband. Creepy-guy glances at Kirsty, before congratulating Kane and offering his hand to shake… Kane just stares at him blankly until creepy-guy laughs it off with a “sweet… I’ll check yas then… ” and departs. Kane glares after him as he leaves, before chcking that Kirsty is alright. She’s just seems a bit disorientated – she hardly knows anyone there, and they suspect that a fair few must have invited themselves. They link hands and head back towards the party.

Inside, Max and Henry seem to have put themslves in charge of the punch and are still trying to work on the girls, managing to attract their attention by pretending to be much older than they actually are. In no time, Max has been invited to another party. He tells the girls that his car is at the garage, and Henry uses the same excuse – resulting in the girls turning their back on them.

Colleen arrives at the party, and seems a bit overwhelmed at the noise and crowds there. She presents Hayley with her gift – a book, the same that Noah bought her as a cover-up for the engagement ring. Colleen reminises about her twenty-first, and the girls compare engagement rings, with Hayley looking pretty horrified when Colleen suggests a double-wedding.
Jade is all over Seb, but he doesn’t want to do anything that she won’t rmember when morning comes. She persists – “life’s too short not to have some fun”, before turning her back on him when he rejects her advances. Max stands alone, staring at the crowds on the dance floor. He is approached by one of the girls from earlier, who wonders how old he really is. He claims to be sixteen, and she reckons it’s odd – because she is too. He then admits to being sixteen – as does she. they work down before realising that they’re both actually thirteen. They put their drinks down… on the floor… and head for a dance, but he rushes off to puke before they make it there.

Outside, Jade is whining to Kirsty about Seb being such a wet blanket. Jae picks up on the fact that Kirsty isn’t entirely thrilled by the topic of conversation, and takes the opportuinity to snipe at her non-twin – when Kirsty’s got problems, everyone runs to her aid. Kirsty tries to stop Jade drinking – can’t she see that people only care about her? Jade is softening up when Kirsty insists that NOTHIHNG could come between them, but Jade just can’t get her head around the fact that her whole life has been a lie.

BREAK

SURF CLUB
Max and Rhys are sitting, the former with a bucket in front of him. It seems he has been drinking a wee bit too much, and is very apologetic – but Rhys decides that punishments can wait until later as Max continues to retch.
Morag reprimands Duncan for being pissed out of his brain, but he plays the innocent, blaming someone else for spoking his drink, but Morag is having none of it. Duncan continues to talk his way out of it, and Alf can’t believe that Morag is actually listening to it all. Seb backs Alf up, and is swiftly reprimanded by Justice Bellingham for telling tales. Duncasn smirks, before suggesting that he and his Aunt take a trip outside – he needs some air. Duncan and Alf exchange words about Duncan, and Alf is determined to have words with his son once he has sobered up.
Kim swaggers over to Jade, and comes close to getting his head bitten off as he checks whether she is ok. Moments later, Rhys swans over to ask exactly the same question, and a drunken Jade wonders whether this is the bit where he tells her that he loves her. Rhys is adamant that the Laura business changes nothing, but she realises that she is no longer his daughter in every way.
Duncan approaches Jade wisth the good news that they can score anything that they like, but Jade has had enough – of everything. They both want to get out of there, and they depart togthr
Jesse is confused about Leah’s whereabouts, and all Alf can say is that Leah told him that she’d come to the party. Alf wonders why he didn’t tell Leah he was going to the city – he knows it’s none of his business, but he doesn’t like to see things going pear-shaped. Rhys turns up to inform them of a fight he has just broken up – things are geting out of hand, and it’s about time the cops were called. Robbie and Hayley protest, and Jesse decides to have a quiet word with some of the gatecrashers to try and calm things down a bit. Calling the cops is put on hold.

Max has gone back into little boy mode as he asks Kirsty whether a girl would still want to kiss him if he threw up in front of them. Kirsty reckons it’s cute that he has found a girl… but the excitement soon fades as Max’s newest love interest is spotted with her tongue down Henry’s throat.
Jesse heads home to look for Leah

Inside, the music goes off and Morag appears, asking all uninvited guests to leave. Her announcement is greeted by jeering and objects being thrown at her, before the music is switched back on and the party continues around her.
Seb asks Kim whether he has seen Jade, and Kim tells Seb that she was headed outside “with your cousin”.

Right enough, Jade and Duncan are taking a stroll away from the party, and come across Robbie’s car. Creepy guy makes a re-appearance, complimenting the car, but Duncan boldly states that it’s not the car that makes the difference – it’s the drive. Creepy guy proceeds to challenge Duncan to a “chicken run” down to “the bluff” – first one to pull out loses. Scary. Duncan wonders whether Jade would be up for it, and she seems happy enough to play along.
Seb arrives outside just in time to see the two cars lining up to start, anmd he leaps into the back of Robbie’s car, driven by Duncan. Seb struggles with Duncan, trying to stop him, but the race starts with Seb in the back seat.
Kim watches them leave and goes inside to rat on Duncan and Jade to Robbie, who is mortified that his new car has been nicked. The story is relayed several times, and Kane decides to take his car and pursue them.
The group make their way outside, with Rhys adamant that Kirsty will NOT go with them. He and Kane make their way to Kane’s car as the police arrive on the scene.

The two cars speed along a stretch of road, and Jade is looking increasingly nervy as Seb continues to yell for Duncan to slow down, but Duncan just tells his rival to hang on, before whooping out of the window.

SURF CLUB
The police inform Morag that the party should have been registered, and Morag is in no mood to be spoken down to – she KNOWS that, and she wasn’t the organiser. Hayley intervenes to save the cops a roasting Morag-style, and insists that it was only ever meant to be a low-key affair, and she has no idea how it got out of hand. Robbie and Kirsty arrive back inside, the former still amazed that Duncan and Jade dared to take his car.

The race is speeding up as both cars start to swerve around on the road, and Seb once again tries to take control of the wheel. Robbie’s car screeches to a halt, and Duncan orders Seb out. He complies, yelling at Jade to get out as well. Too late, as Duncan revs up the engine again. As the car pulls away, Seb makes the wise move of leaping straight onto the bonnet of a moving car with a drunk and drugged-up idiot behind the wheel. Duncan grins as the car increases speed, and Seb’s legs flail madly around. Jade screches at Duncan to stop the car, but he ignores her.

Kane and Rhys have almost caught up, and Rhys swears that when he gets his hands on Duncan… Kane reassures him – Duncan isn’t going to get away with it… not this time.

The cars speed up the road that runs right up to the cliff face, with Seb still very much on the bonnet. Creepy-guy’s car manages to stop in time, but Robbie’s flies off the edge, plummetting downward as Jade’s screams echo through the night and Seb stares helplessly through the windscreen.

Rhys watches, horrified as the car plunges onto the rocks below, painfully calling out for Jade.

As creepy-guy’s car skulks away, Rhys and Kane run up to the dangerously unfenced clifftop, where Rhys proceeds to yell frantically for Jade as Kane makes a call to the cops/ambos about the accident. It is that moment that Duncan decides to make his prescence known, and as Rhys demands to know where his daughter is, Kane grabs Duncan by the scruff of the neck. Rhys soon takes over – “if you killed her, so help you God” and Kane has to break them apart. Rhys goes back to screaming his lungs out for Jade down the cliff as the car smokes away on the rocks below.
