Extended Summary

Ziggy is putting up one of Jai’s pictures on Dean’s wall. Dean wonders if he should tell Jai that he does things other than surf. Ziggy wonders if he actually does. She suggests Jai visit Dean at the weekend. Dean is hoping he’ll be home by then but finds he’s in pain from sitting in the chair too long and asks Ziggy to get a nurse. Later, Grant has helped Dean back into bed. Dean is worried that he’s having an assessment tomorrow. He tells Ziggy that Mackenzie’s on a supply run so asks her to keep Bella company.

At Salt, Tane tries to leave but Felicity wants him to get another round in and says she doesn’t want to go home to an empty caravan and a lecture from Cash. She again tries to get him to come back with her but he continues to refuse. Marilyn and Roo come in and Marilyn goes out onto the balcony. Seeing Tane, she says it’s good to see him out and about and she was sorry to hear about Ziggy. Roo ushers Marilyn away as Felicity asks what a “ziggy” is. Later, Felicity manages to convince Tane to at least play a game of pool with her. Watching them go, Marilyn expresses the opinion that Tane won’t be single for long, although Roo doesn’t think Felicity’s the answer. She is hoping to help Nikau out once Alf gets home, with them both noting he hasn’t had a lot of luck lately.

Nikau emerges from his room and is greeted by Ari and Mia. Ari worries Nikau could be making an expensive mistake. Nikau insists that Bella’s going to change her mind and want the camera back, and then he’ll be there to give it to her. Ari asks what if she doesn’t but Nikau just repeats that she’ll change her mind, then leaves. Ari worries that Nikau’s trying to do good but won’t be able to fix it. Meanwhile, Ziggy turns up at the Diner flat and suggests she and Bella go for pizza. Bella says she’s paying since she sold her camera gear. Ziggy is bewildered, even when Bella says she already spent all the money from the photos she sold at the exhibition, saying it would be better to take more photos and sell them. Bella says it’s done now.

Tane is playing pool with Felicity, who is doing her best to use it as an excuse to get up close and personal. She leans in, inviting a kiss. Ziggy and Bella come in and, seeing them, Tane kisses Felicity. Bella sarcastically calls out that he’s mature. Tane pulls back from the kiss once they go upstairs and Felicity guesses that that’s a ziggy. Up in Salt, Bella wonders what Tane was trying to achieve since he and Ziggy broke up weeks ago. Ziggy says she’s fine with it, since she doesn’t have to feel guilty about being with Dean now.

Downstairs, Tane tries to take his leave from Felicity and apologises for using her. Felicity tries to ask him about Ziggy, then suggests the kiss wasn’t terrible and asks her place or his. Back at the Parata house, Nikau comes home and Ari and Mia try and get him to join them for a movie. Nikau declines and goes to his room. Ari predicts Bella won’t be happy about him interfering. Tane and Felicity come home in an embrace and, after briefly acknowledging Ari and Mia, go to his room. Mia wonders if they have to worry about him as well and Ari says definitely.

Ziggy and Bella go back to the Diner flat. Ziggy doesn’t think the hospital will let Dean come home, since there’s stairs leading up there and he needs to go to rehab each day. Bella says the two of them and Mackenzie will help but Ziggy thinks Dean won’t want them carrying him down the stairs. Bella says she has to ring the guy she sold the camera to about the warranty. She makes the call and suggests he come round or she drops it off. Hearing his response, she announces Nikau is dead. Next morning, Tane talks to Mia who says Ari is worried about him. Tane says he’s just having fun and leaves, passing Bella who calls him disgusting. She asks to see Nikau and demands her camera back, offering him the money. Nikau refuses to do so until she changes her mind. Bella refuses to accept the money, flinging it back at him.

Tane notices a police car outside the surf club. He runs into Felicity who says Cash is inside buying her breakfast. Tane asks if she ever pays for anything. Felicity asks him to join them. Tane says last night won’t happen again. Felicity retorts that he’s said that twice before. Meanwhile, Nikau approaches Bella outside the Diner and says she’s being an idiot, since she now has no cash or equipment. He tries to get her to take the money back and Bella insists she doesn’t want him in her life. Roo comes along and Nikau says he owes Bella money and she won’t take it. Ziggy also appears and Bella goes with her to see Dean.

Tane appears with a bag. Ari wonders where he’s going but Tane doesn’t answer, instead asking Mia for time off. Mia agrees, since he covered for her when she was in hospital. Nikau comes home and, seeing Tane going away, asks if he can come too. Tane says if he can go now and Nikau goes to pack a bag, with Tane waiting in the car. Later, Mia and Ari are walking on the beach. Mia suggests that at least Nikau and Tane have each other but Ari thinks they couldn’t make a good decision between them. He notes he and Mia have their own problems to think about: The adoption. Mia is delighted.

Ziggy and Bella turn up to see Dean at the hospital and he says he’s feeling better than yesterday. Grant arrives to collect him with a wheelchair. Later, when they return, Grant asks about Dean’s home and whether there’s stairs. Dean admits he lives in a flat above a shop. Grant says he can’t release him there: Dean will have to either stay where he is or go to a rehab hospital. Ziggy suggests an alternative: Her place has no stairs and he can be driven up to the door. Dean is reluctant and Grant warns her he’ll need full-time care. Ziggy says she’s already arranged time off work and is determined to help him come home.

Ari and Mia reflect on the fact they’ll have to do more research. Ari says Mia is the most organised person he knows. Mia nods to a nearby family and says that could be them. She suggests they talk to people at home but Ari wants to wait until Nikau and Tane get back. Meanwhile, Mackenzie joins Dean and Ziggy at the hospital and says Bella told her there was good news. They explain that Dean’s coming home. Mackenzie says she’ll get everything organised but Ziggy explains Dean’s coming home with her. Mackenzie looks thrown.
