Faith McKinnon attended Charles Sturt University in Bathurst, completing a Bachelor of Communications in 1996 alongside fellow writer and Home and Away script producer, Holly Lyons.
She got her first job in television in late 1999 as a script assistant on Home and Away. She remained in the roles for a couple of years before moving to England in 2002, to become a script editor for the revival of the British soap, Crossroads. The series script executive at the time was Holly Lyons. She moved back to Australia and began writing scripts for Home and Away in 2004, as well as writing and editing for All Saints.
In 2006, Faith was appointed as the associate script producer of Home and Away alongside Phil Lloyd under Dan Bennett, Leigh McGrath, Sarah Walker and Bevan Lee & Alan Hardy, remaining in the position until mid-2008. After Bevan & Alan’s departure from the chair, Faith took over as the script producer, solely for the first two weeks and then alongside Phil Lloyd, and later, James Walker.
Her first episode as script producer aired on 2nd June 2008 (Ep#4651) and her final episode aired on 27th November 2009 (Ep#4995). During her time on the series, she, Phil and James introduced twelve main characters, including Charlie Buckton and John Palmer. They oversaw storylines such as Martha’s breast cancer and mastectomy, the Year 12 Formal Disaster and the Charlie/Joey saga. Faith took a break from the script producer role in mid-2009 and became a story consultant alongside Sarah Walker. She left at the end of 2009.
After leaving the role solely to James Walker at the end of 2009, Faith became a freelancer and continued to write for Home and Away as well as writing for Neighbours and Winners & Losers. She acted as a story consultant in 2012 on Home and Away and then took up the role of story producer on Neighbours. Her material went to air in late 2013 and continued into 2014.
Faith once again became a freelancer for both soaps, before taking over the role of story producer of Home and Away for the final three weeks of the 2016 season.
