Extended Summary

Irene greets Rose and Mali at the coffee cart, noting she doesn’t often see them there at that time. Mali says he’d normally be doing surf lessons now and declines an offer of coffee. They ask about John staying with her. Irene jokes about him eating all the biscuits but, when Mali says he thought living with John would be good, admits she’s liking the company. After he’s gone, Irene and Rose chat about his income problems. Later, Mali arrives back at the farm house and Mackenzie jokingly asks him if he still lives there, given he’s been staying over at Rose’s. She tells him not to worry about his rent for the month since she’s paid it but Mali is annoyed, saying he didn’t ask her to and will always pay.

At the Parata house, Cash says good morning to Eden and they chat about the recording. She suggests he come back to bed but then hears her phone going off: Cash moved it into the front room because it kept going off. Eden sees she has lots of texts and missed calls from Remi and decides she needs to go and see him, giving Felicity a quick hug goodbye when she emerges. Felicity tells Cash about Tane going out last night. Cash admits he was awake at the time. Felicity says he’s often done it but this time he didn’t come back. Eden arrives across the road just as Remi sends her another text. She worries that all the work they did was erased. Remi says it’s worse than that: Mercedes kissed him. Eden asks if she needs to thump her. Remi doesn’t know where she went and doesn’t know what to say to Bree after ignoring her warnings.

Eden and Remi walk by the beach with Eden realising Mercedes manipulated things to get Remi alone. She says she knew Mercedes was trouble but didn’t think she liked Remi that way. She thinks he should tell Bree, even if he looks like an idiot. Bree then appears, on her way back from work, and asks about the recording session.

Felicity tells Cash she’s never spoken to Tane about where he goes and suspects he doesn’t know she’s been waking up. She worries that he feels he can’t talk to her. Cash advises her to give him time. He goes to the gym and finds Tane sat there instead of opening up. Tane explains that’s where he’s been going at nights. Cash thinks he should tell Felicity but ends up holding the bag for him to continue boxing.

Mackenzie serves Remi, Eden and Bree at Salt and asks when the album will be ready to stream. Remi and Eden say it’s not finished recording yet. Bree asks to hear stories about the recording and Remi and Eden nervously say it went well. After Bree has gone to get some food, Eden advises Remi to talk to her. She decides to get her food to go in order to give them space.

At the surf club, Tane tells Cash he doesn’t want Felicity to know how much it’s affecting him. Felicity turns up and Tane apologises for his absence, saying he had stuff to do there. Felicity wants to talk. Tane points out she’s on her way to work and suggests they meet up afterwards but she insists. As they walk on the beach, Felicity wonders what’s going on with Tane, reminding him that they’re in this together. Tane says he doesn’t know how to deal with the situation and is just angry all the time. Felicity says she’s scared and angry too but she needs him to be her husband.

Mali is ringing around to cancel the week’s surf lessons and offer refunds. Rose turns up and tries to talk to him about the financial problems. Mali says even with the rent freeze, he’ll still need to pay things back eventually. He shuts down the conversation by saying he has to get to work. Rose says she’ll walk with him and get a coffee at Salt.

Bree is feeling tired as Mackenzie clears the table and asks Remi when the next recording session is. Remi says next week hopefully, before backtracking and saying he just hopes they can pick up where they left off. He starts to tell Bree about Mercedes, then just says the violin isn’t working out as well as he hoped and they might have to do the album without her.

Mali and Rose arrive back at the surf club. Mali sees Mackenzie and tells her he’s transferring his share of the rent to her. Mackenzie explains to Rose what happened. Meanwhile, Remi and Bree arrive back at the Lyrik house where Remi quickly tells Eden that he told Bree Mercedes isn’t working out. After Bree has gone to bed, Eden tells Remi that he hadn’t done anything wrong before but now he has by lying to his girlfriend. Remi thinks he needs to cover in case Mercedes doesn’t turn up to the other sessions.

Tane and Felicity are surprised to find Cash there when they get home but he quickly leaves them the house to themselves. Tane and Felicity admit they’ve missed each other before she leads him to the bedroom. She checks he’s sure, at which point he kisses her and lowers her onto the bed. At the surf club, Rose suggests Mali offer students store credit instead of refunds or hires another instructor. Mali says he’s got nothing to pay them with. Rose suggests his family could help out but Mali shuts the idea down.

Up in Salt, Cash and Eden talk around the situations with Remi, Tane and Felicity before Eden asks Cash to promise they won’t keep secrets from each other. Nearby, Rose talks to Mackenzie about Mali’s behaviour. Rose wonders if she should back off and let him handle it. Mackenzie says Mali’s not handling it, telling her about him trying to go surfing.

At the farm house, Mali is looking over a cancelled stock order. Rose turns up and says she’d go to Xander if she needed help. Mali says he’d go to his family about something else but he made a big deal about standing on his own: If he puts his hand out to them, they’ll see him as a failure.
