Lyrik swoop into the recording studio. Mercedes makes her move. Tane is not himself.
Extended Summary
Remi and Mercedes are near the beach, with Remi saying they need to leave Secrets until a later session given that they haven’t heard Kirby and Theo’s revisions yet. Mercedes agrees but also convinces him to sit back and relax first. Meanwhile, Eden collapses onto Cash’s bed at the Parata house, noting it’s not their romantic bungalow: They had to come home early for the recording session. Cash wants to check on Flick and also look at the case, despite Eden reminding him he’s still on leave. They hear Felicity and Tane come home and go to greet them, explaining about the recording session. Felicity says she had her second counselling session and didn’t hate it, noting she’s realised she has to accept she might never get closure. Cash hugs her, but notices over her shoulder how down Tane is looking.
At the surf club, Alf suggests to Justin that Tegan might be the best thing for Andrew. Justin is worried about Andrew getting hurt again but admits Leah is sold on her and has banned him from the house for the afternoon. Alf suggests he focuses on the garage or the band. Alf himself is going to the city and Justin says it’s good news Roo has woken up.
Theo, Kirby, Remi and Mercedes have gathered at the Lyrik house. Kirby says they’ll have Secrets ready for the next session, complete with a dig at Theo. Theo suggests recording Into the Blue, but Mercedes and Kirby both reject the idea. Remi tries to get them to focus. Eden arrives and is puzzled at the mood, with Mercedes sarcastically asking if she wants a medal for turning up. Justin then arrives and announces he’s there to lend a hand. There is an awkward silence before Mercedes asks who he is.
Cash, Felicity and Tane are sat outside the surf club, but Tane is sitting apart, staring into space as Cash and Felicity chat. Felicity tries to advise Cash to have fun instead of checking up on her case but eventually accepts him getting a quick update. Felicity asks him about his time away. Tane says his goodbyes, saying he’ll pop in later for a coffee. Felicity admits they haven’t been talking much. Cash follows Tane to the gym. Tane says Felicity actually is doing better. Cash says it must be hard on them both knowing her attacker might never be caught. Tane says it’s not about him.
Justin is aghast that Lyrik’s deal consists of three studio sessions and no contract. The others point out that it’s free. Justin says it’s use of a studio out of hours with no technician and wonders who’ll actually produce the album. Remi and Mercedes say they have enough experience to do it. Justin wants to renegotiate but it’s quickly clear no-one wants him to get involved so he leaves them to it. Later, Remi, Eden, Kirby and Mercedes arrive at the studio; Theo is due to meet them there later. They check out the fridge full of beers and Kirby and Eden dash off to look over the library.
Cash is chatting to Felicity at Salt. They both realise Tane is struggling but Cash thinks he’ll get through it. Felicity says she has counselling but wonders what Tane has. Cash points out he has her. Felicity goes to see Tane at the gym. Tane suggests they have a break together but Felicity says they just go and don’t come back: She’s got Xander to cover for her at work and is sure the girl at the gym desk will be happy to have no boss for the rest of the shift.
That evening, Felicity tells Tane that dinner’s ready. Tane is lying on the bed and says he’s not hungry. Felicity notes there’s been a distance between them. She softly kisses him, saying she’s ready, but Tane pulls away, saying he can’t. He says he doesn’t see her any different but he’s stuck in his own head and can’t really explain it. They end up just lying down together and cuddling up.
Theo, Remi, Eden and Kirby have set up in the studio while Mercedes is sorting things out in the control room. Kirby snipes at Theo, and Remi asks if they need to take a break. Kirby admits she’s just woried after all the sacrifices they’ve made and doesn’t want to mess things up. Mercedes sees Theo looking nauseous and both teases and reassures him. She notices a call from Bree on one of the phones left in the booth (presumably Remi’s) but rejects it. The band perform a song, Hold Onto This Moment, together, before taking it in turns to man the booth while others record individual tracks.
Felicity is apparently asleep. Tane is watching her and gets up and dresses. After he’s left the room, Felicity opens her eyes. Tane finds Cash getting himself a drink, also unable to stop thinking about the case and sleep. Tane notes that Felicity seems to be coming to terms with things but he doesn’t know how to stop being angry with the guy that attacked her. He goes to the gym where he gloves up and repeatedly punches a bag
With the session concluded, Remi chats to Bree on the phone: She’s on a night shift at the hospital. Theo thinks he couldn’t sleep now and the group decide to head back to the Lyrik house for a celebration. Kirby accepts a lift with Theo. Eden says she’ll bring Remi and Mercedes in the van but Mercedes wants to stay back to re-record her part and Remi agrees to stay with her. Eden leaves them the van and goes with Theo and Kirby.
Later, Remi is playing back Mercedes’ track and declares it perfect. They reflect on how they’ve ended up there, with Remi dismissing it as dumb luck. Mercedes takes a swig of his beer, even though there’s more in the fridge. She gives Remi a shoulder massage and, when he stands up, kisses him. Remi looks shocked and says she thought wrong. Mercedes gives a dismissive look and walks out.
