Extended Summary

Felicity is trying to get through to Cash on the phone while Tane confirms he’s not out the back. Felicity thinks she should have stayed with him. Cash arrives home, very drunk and having trouble taking his shoe off. Felicity helps him to his room and asks what happened but he’s already fallen asleep. At the Diner flat, Rose looks over at the bottle Cash brought.

Next morning, Kirby greets Justin and Theo on the beach, chatting about them surfing. Justin tries to reel off a load of technical details before realising she’s more interested in Theo and comments that he liked it when they were secret. Theo offers to teach Kirby to surf one day, prompting Justin to protest that he’s only been surfing two seconds.

Rose arrives at the Diner and orders a coffee, saying she’ll be outside. Irene and John congratulate her on her commendation. Irene explains Xander was in there singing her praises. John says Xander was proud of her and Irene says they all are. They ask if Cash knows and Rose awkwardly says he does before going to wait outside. Irene picks up on her reaction to the mention of Cash.

Tane and Felicity are still in bed. Tane notes Felicity was up several times during the night and she says she was checking on Cash but he hasn’t moved since he crashed. Tane tries to convince her to get some sleep. They hear Cash moving and Felicity goes to check on him. He dismisses her questioning about last night, saying he just felt like having a beer.

Theo and Kirby are on the balcony at Salt. Theo suggests there’s no better start to the day than surf and brekkie with her, although Kirby says they could have stayed in bed. She gets a call from Remi asking about the PR work and claims they’re still brainstorming: In fact, they haven’t talked about it. She says Remi thinks they’d have got it done if they weren’t together, so they have to do something.

Rose is on the beach and sees Cash approaching. She eventually asks how he is and he says better than he has a right to be. She says she’s not okay and asks what last night was about. Cash refuses to talk about it and walks on. Felicity appears and asks Rose if she was drinking with Cash last night, refusing to drop it. The two of them head to Salt where Felicity says that Cash was fine until he went to meet Xander yesterday. Rose tells her about the commendation and says Cash was pleased for her but it might have reminded him of how off track his own life is. She slowly comes clean about Cash turning up at hers drunk and kissing her, saying he left when she shut it down.

Theo and Kirby discuss PR ideas outside the surf club. Kirby says local radio and Theo suggests a review in the Coastal News but neither are really what they’re looking for. Kirby says Bob did things like collaborations with other musos, handing out merchandise and getting artists to do bill boards, which John, at the next table, dismisses as needing luck, expensive and illegal. Justin comes along and invites them to the Diner. Even though he meant the other two, John accepts. Theo and Kirby explain their problem. Justin reminds Theo he had no problem marketing himself since his channel had 50,000 followers. Theo says the account was deleted. Kirby says he can reactivate it.

Later, as the two of them head back to Lyrik’s place, Theo explains he and his mate got involved in some stuff that got out of hand. He isn’t entirely sold on Kirby’s plan to record the duet they wrote together, rather than the whole band doing a song, but Kirby reminds him Remi and Eden aren’t answering their phones.

At the Parata house, Tane says they’ve all got drunk and made mistakes but Felicity points out it isn’t like Cash. Cash arrives back and tries to avoid Felicity’s attempt to talk about what happened. He ends up shouting at her to back off and get out of his face. He storms out and Tane follows him, saying not to speak to Felicity like that and stop making enemies. Tane goes back inside where Felicity is worried about Cash and wants to fix his problems.

At the Diner, John reminds Justin how much trouble Theo got in with social media before. Justin says this is different since they’re just promoting the band. John complains about the band making noise next door and Irene asks if it’s social media or loud music he objects to. John admits it’s the latter. Cash comes in looking for Rose. Irene hasn’t seen her since earlier and asks what’s going on. Cash ends up shouting at her to stay out of it. John chides him and he apologises. Rose has come in during the tirade and he asks to speak to her in private.

They go up to the flat where Rose says she’s taken a long time to get over her feelings for him and asks what it was about. Cash admits he was just trying to forget everything for a while and knocked on her door because of how she used to feel. Rose forgives him and says she knows nothing will happen between them but would like to be his friend. Cash just says he needs to go and apologise to Felicity.

Theo and Kirby record themselves singing the “New Beginning” duet, ending it by announcing they’re Lyrik and to leave them a message. Theo checks that Remi and Eden will be fine with them uploading a video without them on his channel instead of the official Lyrik one. Kirby says they’re still rebuilding their socials after Bob left and the others will be stoked about the exposure.

Irene wonders if she should call Felicity about Cash but Justin and John think she already knows and Cash will not appreciate her input. Irene says she’s never heard Cash talk like that before, especially to her. John offers to take the afternoon off and keep her company but she’s just upset that there’s nothing she can do.

Kirby is delighted that they’ve already got 2,000 views. She notes Theo has a DM and he tells her to read it since it’s probably just someone trying to sell bitcoin. Kirby looks and sees it’s from Tully Dixon, from the online magazine Music World: He’s in the area and wants to interview them in an hour.
