Extended Summary

Rose join Xander on the beach after a swim. She suggests he go in but he explains he can’t while he’s on antibiotics. He says the infection’s clearing up, which Rose says is down to luck. He promises not to give her anything else to nag him about. Meanwhile, Marilyn marches up to Heather’s caravan and bangs on the door. She asks Heather where she heard the story she told Roo and about the photograph. Heather asks if it’s Marilyn’s kid and tells her to work out why she’s doing it. Nikau emerges and Heather says she doesn’t know what Marilyn’s talking about. Marilyn angrily insists Heather’s lying as Roo also comes over and wonders what’s going on. Marilyn ends up storming off. Roo apologises to Heather.

Cash is down by the beach. He gets a text from Flick asking where he is but ignores it. Xander and Rose approach and Xander greets Cash, with the three of them exchanging pleasantries. Rose heard Cash was at the station and says people were glad to see him. Xander thinks Cash isn’t ready to go back to work. Cash walks on as Xander offers to have a beer with him some time. Back at the Parata house, Tane tries to convince Felicity that there’s nothing to worry about, since Cash was doing better, but Felicity points out he left without saying anything and isn’t answering her texts. Tane decides to go with her to look for him.

Roo finds Marilyn outside the house and asks what happened before. Marilyn insists that something’s going on with Heather and that Roo doesn’t know her. Roo replies that Marilyn’s the one she doesn’t recognise and Marilyn retorts that she’s sorry she feels that way. Roo goes inside as Marilyn looks at the photo. Meanwhile, Nikau and Heather arrive at the Diner. Irene checks on Heather, saying Roo called to say Marilyn wasn’t coming in and gave her the gist of what had happened. Nikau sits Heather down and fills Irene in.

Roo finds Marilyn still outside the house. Marilyn shows her the photo and insists Heather left it for her. She admits Heather didn’t tell her she did and doesn’t answer as Roo asks if she knows who the baby is, if Heather does or if she saw her leave it. Marilyn insists Heather has been telling different stories to different people and lying. Roo says Marilyn isn’t making sense.

Nikau and Heather are walking with Nikau noting he’s never seen Marilyn like that before. Heather asks how well he knows her. Nikau recalls Marilyn was the first person his family met when they came to Summer Bay, she took them in and she’s usually kind and generous. He also recalls the reaction she had to the chemical poisoning. Tane and Felicity come past with Felicity telling Nikau to call her if he sees Cash.

Cash arrives at the Diner to a warm greeting from Irene. She asks if Felicity’s looking after him and says his room’s there if he wants it. He says he doesn’t think he’ll be moving back there and takes a seat. Meanwhile, Marilyn brings Roo a drink. They exchange apologies and Roo suggests Marilyn try and avoid Heather but moments later Heather appears with a bunch of flowers and says she’d have been more sensitive if she’d known about Marilyn’s mental health problems. She gives her the flowers and Marilyn awkwardly thanks her.

Irene checks on Cash but he has trouble standing up. Irene says she’ll call Felicity to get him and demands his phone, since hers is in the kitchen and she doesn’t trust him not to move if she leaves. Xander and Rose enter and Cash asks Xander for a lift. He leaves without acknowledging Rose. Cash and Xander head to the Parata house where Cash asks him to stick around and starts packing a bag. He says he can’t go back to Irene and refuses to move in with Xander and Rose, so asks Xander to take him to the caravan park, saying he’ll leave a note for Felicity. However, Felicity then arrives back with Tane.

Marilyn continues to look nervous but Roo is convinced that Heather was genuine. Marilyn admits she might have misread the situation and says she’ll put the flowers in the living room. Heather watches from the bushes. She heads back to her caravan and runs into Nikau outside. She says she took Marilyn the flowers but Marilyn seemed unhappy to see her. She invites Nikau into her van but he says he has to get to work. Heather heads into the van and takes down a box. From it she takes a child’s stuffed toy, the photo she took of Marilyn, the order of service for the funeral of Timothy Frazer, and her birth certificate, which gives her date of birth as 27-4-1995 and names Marilyn and Timothy as her parents.

Felicity and Tane show Xander out of the house as Cash complains about them talking as though he’s not there. Cash insists he’s moving out and going back to work and says he heard them talking and agrees him being there is dangerous. Felicity thinks it won’t be for much longer and that Cash is in to state to be on his own. She takes his bag back to his room.

Tane goes to the police station where Rose takes him into a private room for a chat. She doesn’t think him coming there is a good idea but Tane thinks there’s no point being careful with Cash living with him. Rose is surprised he doesn’t have a court date but says he’d know before she does. She also asks after Cash. When Tane’s gone, Rose moves to a computer. Meanwhile, Marilyn turns up at the Diner, apologising for being late, to the surprise of Irene who wasn’t expecting her at all. Marilyn claims Roo’s blown things out of proportion and refuses to talk about Heather.

Rose logs onto the database with the help of someone on the phone. Xander turns up and Rose explains to him that the DPP are delaying the court date because they’re trying to get the rest of the gang and monitoring their phone conversations: She’s got permission to view the alerts in case she can help. Not looking at the monitor, she doesn’t notice messages coming through labelled “payback” and “Cash Newman”.
