Extended Summary
Nikau runs into Heather down on the beach. He asks if she’s looked into the job at Salt and she says she’s been too busy studying, adding that she has a session with Roo and is unprepared. She suggests they meet up afterwards. After she’s gone, Tane approaches Nikau and wonders if he and Heather are a thing, saying he’s fine with it now and it’s okay for Nikau to move on. Nikau asks about Cash moving in. He is worried about having a cop living with them when the bikies might still be after them.
At the Parata house, Felicity is playing with a ball while Cash silently searches. He eventually says he’s looking for his car keys: He’s going to the station to ask his sergeant about returning to work. Felicity says he hasn’t been cleared to drive and suggests he do the washing up, read a book or go for a walk if he’s bored. Cash insists he needs to get back into a routine and reveals he didn’t take painkillers to see if he could cope. Felicity takes the keys and says she’ll drive him. Meanwhile, Ziggy looks at the pregnancy test and the trophy, stuffing the test under a cushion when Dean comes in with the hamper. He offers her the champagne that Mackenzie gave him before saying they’ll stick to beer. Ziggy doesn’t seem keen on the prawns he produces.
At the Diner, Roo looks over the work Heather’s done without seeming very impressed. She asks about the chapter Heather was meant to be reading and the test paper she gave her but Heather hasn’t done any of it, saying she was busy job-hunting. Marilyn chimes in that becoming a lawyer is a big commitment, implying she doesn’t think Heather is committed. Heather says Marilyn knows nothing about her and Marilyn pointedly agrees. Roo sends Marilyn to deal with a customer and decides she and Heather will recap what they did last session. Heather gives Marilyn a pointed look.
Felicity and Cash arrive at the police station and are greeted by Constable Devlin, who says the sergeant is in his office. Despite Felicity trying to talk him out of it, Cash insists on going in to see him. At the surf club, Tane is talking to his lawyer on the phone. He tells Nikau that they still don’t have a date and the DPP’s dragging it out. Nikau is surprised the DPP aren’t helping them. Heather appears and suggests she and Nikau go back to her van, claiming the tutoring session went well.
Dean has set out the celebratory meal but Ziggy is still fretting, saying she might not sign the sponsorship deal. Dean says competing doesn’t come cheap and Ziggy replies that she’s not sure she wants to compete. Dean accepts her head must be spinning but Ziggy says that’s not what it is. Dean protests that it’s her dream. Ziggy agrees and says reality’s set in. She reminds him that he had trouble being apart from her. Dean says he and even Jai can come with her sometimes and he’ll support her.
Nikau and Heather walk by the beach with drinks from the juice bar. Nikau tells her about not having a court date. He wonders if Heather can help him but Heather, somewhat tensely, says she’s still trying to get into law school. She says there’s good and bad people and he’s on the side that she likes, kissing him. Meanwhile, Cash and Felicity arrive back at the Parata house. Cash takes some painkillers and they fill Tane in on what’s happened: Neither the sergeant nor the doctors are willing to sign him off as fit for work. Cash dismisses it as jumping through hoops. He goes to the bathroom and splashes water on his face.
Nikau and Heather are sat out by the fire in the caravan park. Heather notes the stars look different from in the city. Nikau asks if her family live there and she says some of them. Marilyn and Roo come past and exchange brief greetings. Roo chides Marilyn for what she said before and Marilyn says she was sticking up for Roo. Roo tells her what Heather said about working for a married couple, getting pregnant by the husband and being coerced into giving up the baby. Marilyn looks shocked.
At the Parata house, Tane asks Felicity if she’s coming to bed but she wants to check on Cash. Tane suggests he could watch a movie with them but Felicity says Tane’s got an early morning so she’ll handle it. She takes the pack of cards and goes to Cash’s room, saying they’re going to build a tower.
Ziggy is sitting on her own, looking at the test. Dean appears and suggests they go to bed and talk about it in the morning. Ziggy rambles somewhat, saying she’s got a wonderful dream on one hand and an obstacle that could be just as wonderful on the other, before finally telling him she’s pregnant. Dean asks if she’s sure and she shows him the test. She asks him to sit down so she can work out if he’s happy, sad or terrified. They are both struggling to get their heads around it but agree they’re in it together.
Cash and Felicity are slowly building a tower out of the cards, taking it in turns to do sections. Felicity asks Cash if she remembers the last time they did this and says it was the only thing that gave her peace. Cash says he understands now that she was the one that did all the work and asks if she dreamt a lot about their dad. Felicity confirms that she did and that you try to hang onto someone you lose. Cash says this is helping him.
Next morning, Tane and Felicity talk about Cash. Tane wonders how long he’s staying. Cash emerges from his room in time to hear Tane saying he has to leave some time and walks out of the house without them noticing. Tane explains about how the bikies won’t be happy if they hear the cop that killed their president is staying there but says he doesn’t want to put pressure on him. Felicity goes to check on him and finds him gone.
Marilyn exits the house and finds an envelope left on the veranda with her name on it. Inside is a photo of a baby; on the back is written “guess who?”
