Extended Summary
Mackenzie and Felicity consult outside the surf club. Felicity says everything is in place for the poker night: They even have a wait list. Mackenzie frets about the size of the event but Felicity reminds her there’s a $500 buy-in. John suddenly appears wanting to talk to Mackenzie and Felicity quickly makes herself scarce. John asks how Mackenzie managed to convince Alf to give her a rent extension. Mackenzie claims he gave her a stern talking to but refuses to give details. At the Parata house, Mia thinks she can’t accept the plane ticket. Tane asks if she has a better plan, saying she’s Ari’s wife and a lot of the family haven’t met her. Bella and Nikau promise to look after Chloe. Mia agrees, shocked she’s leaving tomorrow.
Ryder notices Roo making dinner for herself, Alf, Martha and Marilyn before heading off to work: Veggie soup and superfood buddha bowls. Alf calls it rabbit food. Roo says she and Martha made it together. Alf complains about Martha working but she says she was just supervising. Later, Roo, Marilyn and Martha are sat on the sofa ready to meditate. Alf says he’ll sit it out. Roo recalls she had a session with Marilyn once but didn’t last long. To Alf’s irritation, they start playing music with Marilyn directing their breathing.
Tane and Felicity are collecting a large amount of pizza from Salt. John asks if they need any help with it and Tane says that actually they do. At the Parata house, Mia is running around arranging packing and tells Chloe she can keep one of her tops if she can find it. Bella tells Nikau that she wants to go to New Zealand one day. John, Tane and Felicity arrive. John recalls the first day that he met Mia and Mia recalls that he interviewed her for the manager’s job and gave her a hard time, but says he’s been a good friend since.
Ryder assures Mackenzie that everything is ready and she notes she couldn’t do the “special events” without him. Ryder puts himself forward as an extra dealer but Mackenzie knows Felicity said no. She sees Nathan come in and pulls Ryder onto the balcony out of sight, before saying to get rid of him. At the Parata house, Bella and Nikau check Chloe’s okay with all this. Tane finds Mia outside. She notes that she couldn’t have got through things without him and Ari would be proud of him. Tane produces the contract to transfer gym ownership, saying he’s signed it this time.
Ryder goes back to Mackenzie and tells her Nathan wants to speak to her, before giving her an envelope from him containing a large amount of cash. Mackenzie goes over to him and wonders if he’s miscounted. Nathan says to consider it interest, explaining he won big at another poker event and got enough to pay off his debts. Mackenzie is worried that he plans attending their event but says it’s his call. Next morning, Alf is doing work in the caravan park when Roo, Martha and Marilyn come along. Roo assures him it’s just a leisurely walk. After the others have gone on, Marilyn tries to convince Alf that the programme is making Martha laugh and that’s a good thing.
At the surf club, Mackenzie approaches a hungover John and gives him the rent money. John asks if she won the lotto. Later, Nathan turns up with a friend of his, PK. Mackenzie asks what it stands for and he just says it’s what his friends call him. PK is hoping to buy into tonight’s event. Mackenzie says they’re already fully booked and everyone has to be vetted. They go upstairs for coffee.
Chloe and Mia go for a walk on the beach. Mia wonders if this is the craziest thing she’s done. Chloe recalls Mia once put pink streaks in her hair. She asks if Mia would do things differently knowing she’d lose Ari again. Mia says she doesn’t regret anything, although she’s finding it hard to leave Chloe behind. Later, everyone has gathered to say goodbye: Tane is giving Mia a lift to the bus station. Mia hugs Felicity goodbye, telling her to look after Tane, and also hugs Bella, Nikau and Chloe. Mia drives off with Tane. Bella and Nikau invite Chloe to spend time with them but she says she wants some time alone.
Back at the house, Chloe writes in her journal, saying that she can put the horrible things she’s done to Matthew, Bella and Nikau behind her and have a fresh start. At the caravan park, Alf, Martha and Roo see Ryder heading off to work. Martha insists that she’s fine to continue. Roo asks Ryder about him staying up and he says he was playing solitaire. Martha admits she’s feeling dizzy. Alf helps her sit down and has a go at Roo for pushing her.
At Salt, Mackenzie tries to leave a message for Felicity and sends Ryder to find her. Nathan approaches Mackenzie, trying to pressure her about PK. PK comes over and tells her to name her price for a seat at the event. When Felicity turns up, Mackenzie tells her she needs to lose someone from the event. Felicity protests but Mackenzie says to offer them a discount on the next event. Felicity still thinks it’s not how they do things but Mackenzie is insistent.
