Extended Summary

Logan is on his jet ski, while Alf is sat on the shore. Roo joins him and they comment on how windy it is. Roo asks when Alf’s picking up Martha and he says he’s waiting for a call from the nurses. Roo wants to press ahead with her plan for Martha but Alf is sceptical and asks if she’s actually spoken with anyone medical about it. Looking out at Logan, Roo says she’s about to. Soon after, Roo orders a black coffee and a muffin from Marilyn at the Diner: Not for her but for Logan. Alf still isn’t keen but Roo is determined.

Mia is aghast at Tane’s idea for her to leave without Chloe. Tane tries to argue that the situation isn’t working for either of them and points out that Chloe travelled around the world on her own. Mia protests that Chloe’s vulnerable at the moment and thinks things can change between them. Tane drops it. Meanwhile, Chloe is telling Bella and Nikau that she regrets what she said to Mia. Bella says it’s good that it’s all out in the open and she and Nikau suggest maybe Chloe and Mia can move forwards.

Roo greets Logan after his jet ski session with the coffee and muffin and tells him she wants his advice on getting Martha ready for the transplant. She explains she’s heard that diet and exercise can help. Logan doesn’t say no but suggests they talk later. Soon after, Roo and Logan are at the Stewart house. Logan has explained that Martha’s heart function needs to be at least 80% for a transplant and at the moment it’s at 60%. Alf arrives back with Martha. He is keen to usher her out of the way before Roo and Logan can say anything but Martha agrees to listen to him.

Mia asks Tane how his plan would work. Tane says he can keep an eye on Chloe, plus she and Nikau get along better now. He notes Chloe can’t look at Mia without thinking about what happened and her friends will be there for her. At the surf club, Nikau tells Bella that he’s worried about how Mia feels but Bella thinks it will be fine. Chloe joins them and they admit they were talking about her. Chloe says she has an idea.

Mia turns up at the Diner looking for Chloe. Irene and Marilyn tell her that Chloe isn’t working today but they’ll let her know that Mia was looking for her. Mia thanks them for looking after Chloe and they tell her it’s no problem, since she’s one of the Diner ladies now. Down on the beach, Chloe is telling Bella and Nikau about her plan to move out. Nikau isn’t sure about her renting a house with people she doesn’t know but Chloe says they’ll visit all the time. She gets a text from the landlord inviting her to check out the place and accepts Bella’s offer to go with her. Mia observes the three of them messing about and comments to Tane that she hasn’t seen her that happy in a while.

Logan explains the idea of gentle exercise and healthy diet to Martha. Alf doesn’t think she should push herself and Logan agrees it should be done under supervision. Alf cuts Logan off and he leaves. Roo and Alf argue, with Alf accusing Roo of ambushing them and saying Martha should make the decision, before storming out. Later, Martha tracks Alf down in the caravan park with him shocked that she’s out. He is worried that she’ll feel obliged to go along with Roo’s plan just to keep her happy. Martha doesn’t want to rob her of hope again. Alf is worried that the strain of the programme could make Martha die sooner. Martha says he and Roo won’t let that happen.

Bella and Chloe arrive back at the Parata house and Chloe admits the place was a dump. Mia arrives and asks to talk to Chloe. Bella goes to meet Nik. Chloe explains her plan to move out but Mia says she’s the one that’s going: Not just from the house but from the Bay. Chloe is shocked that she’s planning something that drastic. Mia says she stayed for Chloe and it’s too painful for her to be there. She has no idea where she’s going to go but says she’ll figure it out.

Roo runs into Logan at the surf club and apologises for Alf. Logan says he can see Alf’s just a scared husband. Nearby, Chloe talks to Tane about Mia’s plan and wonders if they can do something to help with where she goes. Meanwhile, Alf runs into Marilyn at the Diner. She notes Roo and Martha are worried since he wasn’t answering his phone. She suggests Alf is scared of getting his hopes up. Alf admits that’s a part of it but thinks Roo’s pushing Martha into it. He doesn’t want her to waste the time they have left.

Tane and Chloe have called Bella and Nikau to the house but don’t tell them anything until Mia gets there. Chloe tells them she’s not moving out and Mia tells them she’s leaving but doesn’t know where to. Chloe says she has an idea. Tane produces a plane ticket to New Zealand: Gemma would love to have her to stay and she can see where Ari was laid to rest. Chloe suggests she needs closure. Mia looks shocked.
