Extended Summary

Xander meets up with Mali down on the beach and hopes he isn’t late. Mali asks about Rose, admitting he hasn’t seen her since he’s been back. They head off for their surf lesson. Meanwhile, Eden is concerned about Felicity’s driving, wondering if she’s been drinking. A patrol car comes up behind them and, with a bit of prompting from Eden, Felicity pulls over. Cash and Rose get out of the car and Cash asks why Felicity turned round. Eden claims she forgot her wallet and they’re going back for it. Rose tries to give Felicity a breathalyser test and Felicity tries to refuse.

Justin arrives home and calls out to Ava but doesn’t get a response. He looks around the house and notices her laptop open with only the title written. At the Diner, Marilyn comments to Irene that Ava has grown up so much. Irene comments on her interest in Theo but they both clam up when Kirby comes within earshot. Kirby goes over to Theo and Ava’s table, suggesting she and Theo go for a walk during her break. Ava gets a message from Justin and says she has to go home, asking Theo to come with her so Justin will be less grumpy. Theo awkwardly agrees, checking if Kirby minds and saying he’ll meet her after work.

Felicity tries to get Cash and Rose to let her go before finally agreeing to do the test, although she asks not to have an audience. Cash and Eden walk a little way away and Cash asks if Felicity’s been drinking. Eden says she doesn’t know. Rose reports that Felicity’s just over the limit. Cash says it’s still over and Rose tells Felicity her license will be suspended for three months and she’ll get a fine in the post. Cash insists Felicity get in the car, saying Eden can take the van.

Justin is leaving another message for Ava just as she arrives back with Theo. He reminds her he told her to stay home and do her assignment. Ava says she did: The one he saw isn’t the assignment she has to hand in, which she’s printed out. Justin says she was still told to stay at home. Theo thinks that isn’t fair. Justin tries to remind Ava about following rules but she storms off to her room. At the Diner, Irene asks Kirby about Ava enjoying Theo’s company. Kirby dismisses it as an innocent crush.

Cash drops Felicity off at her caravan in the police car and tries to talk about what happened. Felicity says she wasn’t drunk but Cash says it’s still not good that she was drinking first thing in the morning. Felicity shuts herself away in her caravan, where she sinks to the floor, silently sobbing.

Justin tells Theo that he’s trying to get to know Ava and Theo isn’t helping. Theo thinks Justin was too hard on her and says being shouted at by your dad doesn’t make you do what he wants. When Ava comes back out, Justin tries to talk to her but she just grabs her laptop and goes back to her room. Theo goes to meet Kirby at the Diner and tells her about Justin having a go at Ava. Kirby thinks he must have had his reasons but Theo says she didn’t deserve it. Kirby comments on Ava enjoying his company. Theo calls himself the cool older cousin and says he’s just worried that Ava and Justin getting to know each other isn’t going well.

At the Diner flat, Mali shows Xander some surf moves on his phone. Xander checks he doesn’t have to pay for this lesson and Mali says it’s for free. He says he has to get back to work, then realises Rose has been home for several seconds. Mali decides to stay, making Rose some food while she gets changed. Later, Mali notes he has a lesson to get to and Xander says he’s been saying that for an hour. Mali is surprised to learn Rose has never surfed. Xander quips she never does anything she isn’t good at straightaway. Mali suggests they meet for a swim after his lesson.

Eden goes to see Cash and says she didn’t know Felicity had been drinking. Cash accepts why she tried to cover. He is very worried about Felicity, saying she’s never been this reckless or selfish before. Eden insists they’ll sort it out. She goes round to see Felicity in her caravan, bringing one of Felicity’s boxes with her. Felicity apologies for putting her in danger. Eden agrees she should be sorry and says she needs help.

Later, Felicity wonders why Eden isn’t a mess like her. Eden points out she doesn’t remember the accident whereas Felicity lived through it all and talks about focusing on her music and writing. Felicity considers leaving. Eden suggests going to the one person that will always forgive her. Eden goes round to see Cash and asks if Tane’s home. Cash says he isn’t and Felicity enters after Eden, explaining she didn’t want to see him. She apologises to Cash and asks him to help her. Meanwhile, Rose meets up with Mali on the beach. She wonders where his student is and Mali says it’s Rose. He convinces her to try a free lesson and Rose awkwardly agrees. He gets a text and his face falls for a moment before he carries on.

Justin says he’s heading to the Diner for a takeaway. Theo says he and Kirby are going to a gig, while Ava largely ignores him. Once Justin has gone, Ava sits closer to Theo and Kirby. Theo explains they’re looking at the band’s socials and talks about the support for Remi and Bree. Kirby tries to talk about blurred lines and how a crush is just fantasy. Ava says no-one asked her. Kirby walks away. Ava sits next to Theo, who asks her advice on what photos to post. Kirby looks worried.
