Cash opens his heart to Eden. Is Felicity in danger?

Extended Summary

Gary is with Tane at the Parata house, discussing the honeymoon in New Zealand. Cash turns up and Tane leaves him and Gary alone. Gary asks how Felicity is and Cash says she’s driving everyone mad but looking forward to the wedding now. Gary says he was glad to hear Cash got the ute up and running. Cash says Gary will see it while driving behind them, checking he’s still good to drive Eden in.

At the birthing class, Dean has joined Ziggy on the ball. The midwife starts to talk and one of the expectant fathers asks if they should take notes. The midwife says everything is in the welcome packs. Dean advises the father not to look at everything in it but the father says he wants to share everything. The midwife tells them all to be respectful to each other and, when Dean’s phone goes off, says they need to be turned off, reminding him he has a partner to support. Dean rolls his eyes when the eager attendee starts making notes.

At the Diner, Justin turns up carrying the wedding cake and supervised by Leah. Marilyn is impressed by how big it is and Leah wonders if she did too much. They clear a space to put it down and Leah says it might be her best ever.

Back at the birthing class, the midwife tells them they don’t need to come into hospital until contractions are only five minutes apart. Ziggy tells Dean they’ll get in the taxi at the first contraction. The eager attendee asks if they need to do a trial run to see how long it takes to get to hospital and Dean tells him it’ll take as long as it took today. The midwife reminds him to be respectful. Ziggy quips that another rule is no making fun of the teacher’s pet.

Felicity heads out to the back of the Parata house, where people are setting things up, and tells Cash she’s spoken to Eden, who’s a mess thanks to him. Cash says Felicity shouldn’t have got involved. Felicity tells him Eden won’t wait around forever and Cash says he doesn’t want her to. Felicity says Cash is giving mixed signals as if he doesn’t know what he wants. Gary has observed the interaction and asks if everything’s all right. Felicity hugs him and says she’s glad he’s there.

Ziggy stares at the head of a baby doll, saying it’s big. She tells Dean to think about it and his eyes widen. The midwife takes the doll back and produces a TENS machine, which is used for pain relief during birth but can also simulate labour pains. She asks if any of the birthing partners want to try it as an empathy exercise. The enthusiastic attendee volunteers, telling his partner he’d birth the baby for her if he could. Dean makes a caustic remark and the midwife says he and Ziggy keep being disruptive and can leave now if they can’t behave like civilised human beings. Cut to them standing waiting for the lift, as the midwife complains to a colleague that they behaved like they were in high school and are going to get a shock in the birthing suite. As soon as the pair enter the lift, they burst out laughing.

Eden answers the door to Cash but isn’t keen to talk to him. Cash says he knows he’s made things confusng for her but asks for a chance to explain. Meanwhile, Gary and Felicity are going for a walk. After discussing the trip to New Zealand, Gary asks what’s going on between her and Cash, saying it sounded like she was trying to get him to do something. He guesses it was about Eden, calling it cop instinct or fatherly intuition. Felicity says it’s going to take a long walk to discuss it.

Cash tells Eden he had his life mapped out, getting married and having children, and then it was taken away from him. He admits he can’t stop thinking about the other night and there was a time when her saying she loved him would have meant everything, but now it terrifies him. He says if he could love anyone now, it would be her, but he can’t.

At the Diner, Leah and Justin discuss the fact Lyrik aren’t playing tomorrow. Marilyn is disappointed, since she was looking forward to hearing what all the fuss was about. Leah finishes the cake icing and says she’ll do the decorating tomorrow: Justin tells Marilyn she won’t let anyone else touch it. Leah and Marilyn clear a space in the fridge for it. Justin gets a text and says his contribution to the wedding is about to arrive.

Tane, Felicity, Nikau and Gary are met by Eden outside the house. Felicity complains a bit about not being able to sleep in her own bed and Eden tells her to think of it as a girls’ night. Cash drives up in the ute. Everyone is impressed and Felicity realise it was their dad’s. Cash says Gary brought it down and Gary says it was Cash’s idea. Felicity is touched and sits in it, saying it’s like their dad’s there too. Cash and Eden exchange furtive looks.

At the surf club, Dean closes up the board shop. Ziggy jokes that they forgot their show bag and Dean complains that the guy he argued with probably got it. Cash and Gary turn up. Cash introduces Gary, saying Ziggy was one of the mechanics who worked on the ute. The two go upstairs for a beer and Ziggy suggests she and Dean get a takeaway. She says the birthing class wasn’t what she thought it would be and Dean notes he’s kept his record of being kicked out of every class. Ziggy tells him not to get kicked out of the hospital when she’s having the baby.

Cash and Gary share a drink on the balcony at Salt. Gary says Felicity told him about Cash and Eden. Cash says there is no him and Eden. Gary suggests he’s afraid of getting hurt again and says that’s not living, before noting Cash never used to be a quitter. He says Cash always saw the light at the end of the tunnel. Cash retorts that life doesn’t always turn out. Gary guesses he’s looking at his spark with Eden as another potential disaster but says it might not be.

Eden and Felicity are drinking and eating in a bedroom at the Lyrik house. Eden notes what Cash said was hard to hear but it feels like it’s over. She tries to get Felicity to sleep, then calls it her last night of freedom. Felicity protests that she’s not going to jail and muses on the number of negative terms about marriage. Eden tries to pep up the mood with more champagne but finds the bottle empty. Felicity goes to get another one from the fridge and looks thoughtfully at her engagement ring.

Felicity barges into Cash’s bedroom and tells him to tell her she’s doing the right thing. Cash does. Felicity continues to pace but Cash takes her hand reassuringly. Felicity checks she’s not going to stuff it up. She leaves the room and bumps into Tane, who wonders if this is bad luck. Felicity thinks they can handle a bit of that. She kisses him, but pulls away when he tries to go into his room, telling him to go to bed.

Felicity exits the house and stops by the ute for a moment before heading back across the road. A shady character watches her from hiding behind a nearby vehicle. After she’s gone, he steps out and calls someone, saying the ute was moved out of the garage but to let Tex know he’ll get the job done. He crouches by the ute with some tools.
