Extended Summary
John exits the house in his dressing gown and sees the decorated ute, and a truck from Salt pulled up with Mackenzie and some staff unloading. She checks she’ll see him this afternoon. In the Parata house, Nikau announces he’s found a DJ for the wedding and takes Gary’s toast off him. Mackenzie enters and promply takes the toast off Nikau: She’s brought a wedding breakfast as her gift. Cash, Nikau, Tane and Gary eagerly tuck in.
Mackenzie next heads across the road to deliver a further breakfast to Felicity and Eden. Eden has just got off the phone to Kirby and says Remi is better physically but still worried about Bree. However, he’s told them to enjoy themselves. Mackenzie agrees to stay for one champagne but says she has to meet her hot date for the wedding. She asks Felicity if she’s excited. Felicity says she is, then admits she feels nervous. Mackenzie and Eden assure her that’s normal.
At the Diner, Justin is on the phone while Leah is putting the finishing touches to the cake. Justin says Nikau has arranged for one of his cousins to take the cake to the reception. Leah checks Marilyn is okay to hold the fort. Marilyn says there’s nothing more romantic than a wedding. Leah says she can think of a few things and Justin suggests going away together some time soon.
Gary and Cash join Felicity and Eden over the road. Cash quietly asks to talk to Eden but she says today’s about Felicity. Gary and Cash tell Felicity about the ute being decked out ready for her. Eden takes Felicity to get ready. Down the beach, Nikau tells Tane about the DJ and his other arrangements, including getting the wedding live streamed back home. He notes they need to get him back home to change. Tane says he’s not nervous because marrying Felicity feels right.
Eden appears in her bridesmaid’s dress. Cash says she looks amazing and Eden, with strained cheeriness, says to save his compliments for the bride. Felicity appears in her dress and both Cash and Gary compliment her, with Gary saying she just looks like her mother. Cash produces their mother’s necklace and helps her put it on. He notes now she has a piece of both their parents with them and Gary says he’s proud of her. Felicity, however, goes into a panic. She announces the wedding’s off and disappears into the bedroom. Eden tries to convince her it’s a wobble but Felicity says marriage isn’t for her. Cash says she’s lucky to have Tane love her. (Eden gives him a glare.) Felicity wants Cash to go and tell Tane but Cash refuses: He’ll support her if this is what she wants but she’ll have to tell Tane herself.
Nikau and Kiri check out Tane in his suit before Kiri leaves. Nikau notes Tane looks like a ripped penguin. Tane thanks Nikau for being there for him when his brothers couldn’t be. Nikau says he was glad to and Tane says Mikaere and Ari would be proud. They head out, as a large group of guests gather at the countryside venue. Leah and Justin are surprised as John turns up with Mackenzie as his date. Leah and Mackenzie express relief that they’re not having to wear heels on the beach. Nikau and Tane arrive and thank Mackenzie for the breakfast. John asks why he didn’t get an invite and Mackenzie says it was wedding party only. Tane goes to chat to the celebrant, Drew, who assures him she found the place fine. Tane admits to Nikau that he’s nervous but says it’s in a good way.
Outside the house, Eden tries to calm Felicity while Cash and Gary watch from a distance. Gary tells Cash that the more he pushes, the more Felicity will dig her heels in. He also thinks Felicity’s even less likely to listen to him than Cash. Eden comes over and tells them to stall Tane while she talks Felicity round. Gary agrees Eden’s their best bet and Felicity will feel less pressured if they’re not there. Cash hands Eden the car keys, holding onto her hand longer than necessary.
At the venue, John talks about how weddings make you want to get married yourself. Leah says she loves weddings but has had enough of her own. Mackenzie is looking forward to the hangi, although John recalls having a stroke at the last one he went to. Tane frets to Nikau about where Felicity is. Cash and Gary turn up and Tane asks about Felicity. Cash says there’s been a change of plans and Eden’s bringing her.
Felicity tries to get Eden to help her take her dress off, then suggests they take the ute and get away from their man troubles. Eden replies that she has man troubles but Felicity has a man who loves her. She reminds Felicity what she said about Tane loving and getting her, which means she’s running away from happiness.
Tane tries to question Cash, who argues Felicity isn’t even late yet. The guests are also starting to wonder where she is. Leah gets a call from Marilyn: Kiri is there to pick up the cake but it’s no longer white since beetroot juice has dripped onto it. Leah says she’ll come back and fix it. Justin says he’ll take her. John wonders where they’re going.
Felicity emerges from the bedroom, now in a happier mood, and says she’s ready. Eden quips that she’d marry Felicity herself. They dash outside to the ute, where Eden helps Felicity in and hands her some flowers. She pauses before starting the engine, saying she’s happy for Felicity, then finally drives off. At the venue, Cash and Gary talk about Felicity’s absence. Cash says he’s thought about what Gary said last night: First chance he gets, he’ll tell Eden how he feels.
Eden and Felicity drive down a coastal road, with Felicity calling out to random people that she’s getting married and getting cheers in return. They turn the music up and thus miss a call from Cash, who is looking pensive at the venue, as is Tane. As they speed down a country road, Felicity warns Eden to slow down. Eden applies the brakes, unknowingly causing fluid to spurt out underneath the vehicle…
