Extended Summary

Tane and Felicity are sat on a car on the beach at night. They note it’s less than 48 hours until the wedding. Felicity gets a text from Eden asking when they’re going to do the hair and make-up trial. Felicity says never. She gets another text but Tane says to leave it, since they’re there to get away from the wedding chaos. Felicity says she’ll tell his whanau he said that. Tane also gets a text but ignores it.

At the Parata house, Nikau and Eden are ready to kill the pair. Eden asks the otherwise empty room how she’s meant to pay for the drinks. Cash comes in at that moment, creating a slightly awkward atmosphere. Nikau jokes about the risk of putting Eden in charge of the booze after she stacked it at the bucks night. Cash offers his card to pay for the drink but Nikau thinks Tane and Felicity will be back soon. Cash leaves.

At the hospital, Kirby expresses horror to Rose about Remi’s hand being smashed and wonders if the police will find Bree tonight. Rose hopes so. Kirby blames herself for not calling the police sooner but Rose says it’s thanks to her that they’re looking for them. Kirby worries Remi won’t be able to play guitar again. Cash arrives, having heard about what happened whe he got into work. He asks Kirby if she can give a statement.

At the Diner, Justin, Ziggy and Dean have colours for the nursery laid out. Dean picks one, then picks the one that Ziggy wanted instead. Ziggy says they can’t do anything tomorrow because of the birthing class. Dean says he was hoping Ziggy would have forgotten (Ziggy points out she has a large reminder) and tries to pretend to be ill. Justin warns him he’s on thin ice. Ziggy says they didn’t make it to the end of the birthing video but will have to make it to the end of the birth, telling Dean he’s definitely coming.

Felicity and Tane arrive home to a barrage of questions from Eden and Nikau. Tane says he’ll pay for the drinks in the morning and Nikau says there’s a problem with the suits. He gets a text from Theo saying Lyrik can’t play, Remi’s in hospital and not to tell Eden, so says nothing. At the hospital, Cash ends a phone call and tells Rose there’s no leads. Rose recalls Remi saying that Jacob had been missing for days and had taken all their savings. Cash recalls Bree was afraid of this and he promised the AVO would protect her. Kirby gets news that Remi’s out of surgery and on the ward. They go up there but have to tell him there’s still no sign of Bree.

Dean and Ziggy look over the paperwork at the board shop and Dean says they’re ready for the birthing class. Ziggy admits she’s a bit nervous and Dean warns her he’s been kicked out of every class he’s ever done. Ziggy says they’ll still have a kid if they fail the class. At the hospital, Cash checks with Remi that Jacob forced Bree to leave. Remi says he told her to come with him or he’d “put him out of misery”. Rose asks if he said anything to suggest where they were going but Remi can’t remember anything except him telling Bree to pack her bags and blames himself for letting her go. Kirby calls an end to the questioning. She says she’ll stay there tonight and tells Cash not to say anything to Eden, saying she’ll tell her later.

Eden is doing Felicity’s make-up. Felicity rejects one of the options and Eden says this is why they need a trial. Felicity checks it’s okay to stay at Eden’s. Eden says she can sleep on the floor before saying she’s texted Remi to ask if she can sleep in his room but he’s never replied, complaining that he spends all his time with Bree these days and they need to rehearse. Both Cash and Nikau overhear the comment but don’t say anything about either Remi or Felicity’s make-up; Cash heads for a shower while Nikau is trying to find a DJ. At the hospital, Kirby speaks to Theo on the phone about staying there overnight. Remi is still in pain. Kirby says it’s another hour before he’s allowed more morphine and tries to get him to go to sleep.

Next morning, Nikau directs relatives making preparations for the hangi. He asks Felicity if she wants to run through her vows but Felicity assures him she’s on top of it. Tane comes over and wonders what they’re talking about. Felicity says they’re saying he’s lucky to end up with a catch like her. Meanwhile, Eden is walking and leaving another message for Remi. Cash approaches and says she has to come with him, explaining it’s about Remi.

Kirby has been sleeping next to Remi’s bed. Rose turns up with coffee and Kirby admits it was a rough night. Rose admits there’s no update. Cash turns up with Eden, saying he had to tell her. Eden says Kirby should have but she’ll deal with that later. The others give Eden and Remi some space. Remi is scared of what Jacob will do to Bree. Eden tries to convince him Bree knows how to handle Jacob until the police get there. At the coffee cart, Marilyn serves Ziggy and Dean and learns about the birthing class. Ziggy admits Dean isn’t a class person. Marilyn suggests the most important thing is Ziggy wants to go and Dean agrees.

Eden exits Remi’s room and tells Cash she’s never seen him this scared. She thinks Cash should have told her last night. Cash says Kirby was there and Eden accepts she couldn’t have done anything but says Remi is her best mate. Cash tries to comfort her but Eden pulls away, saying not to pretend he cares. They drive back to town where Eden quickly walks away. Cash chases after her and Eden accuses him of giving mixed messages, saying he freaked out at the hens night but then brought her home, didn’t tell her about Remi but then did…and she told him she loved him and he’s pretending he didn’t hear. Cash admits he did hear…but doesn’t say anything else. Eden walks away.

Ziggy and Dean arrive at the hospital for the birthing class. It is full of couples sitting on large rubber balls, prompting Dean to wonder where the chairs are. Ziggy looks slightly freaked out at a picture of the baby in the birth canal, as does Dean at the contents of an afterbirth care package. Ziggy sits on one of the balls; Dean, looking rather out of place, declines to join her.

Nikau and Felicity walk on the beach. Felicity recites her vows and Nikau tells her it wasn’t quite right. He assures her they can run through it again while Felicity worries about freezing or accidentally saying she wants to marry his shoe. They see Eden sat on her own. Nikau goes to call Tane while Felicity sits with Eden and asks what’s going on.
