Extended Summary

Dean and Mackenzie run into each other outside the surf club. Mackenzie asks how the nursery’s going and Dean poinrs out Mackenzie’s the one helping Justin. Mackenzie says she was just checking he hadn’t peaked. John turns up and talks about getting a present for Tane and Felicity’s wedding, saying you used to be able to get away with a fondue set but now people want an espresso machine or something. He suggests they all put in $50 but Mackenzie says she and Dean have already got something. After John’s gone, she admits they haven’t so need to think.

At the motel, Jacob ties Remi to a chair. Remi protests that the police will be after him because of the AVO but Jacob thinks no-one will call them. He tells Bree to finish packing and leave everything else. Remi calls this kidnapping but Jacob thinks Bree being his wife means it doesn’t count. Bree tries to refuse to go. Remi tells Jacob not to touch her. Jacob repeats that she’s his wife, so Remi changes it to not hurting her.

Alone in the flat, Xander flicks through TV channels, looking bored, before sending.Stacey a text to call him. Down on the beach, a bootcamper counts and encourages Rose and Stacey as they do star jumps and race. Rose collapses in exhaustion. Dean, who had stopped to watch, helps Rose to her feet and says it wasn’t bad for a cop. Stacey says it’s been a long time since someone gave her that much competition and Rose says it’s a long time since anyone beat her. Stacey points out she does this for a living.

Jacob asks Remi when he decided it was okay to start sleeping with his wife. Bree tries to cut in but Jacob accuses her of leaving him, sleeping with someone else and then going to the police. Remi interrupts the tirade, confirming he slept with her and saying they did it as soon as Jacob left. Bree says things got out of hand and offers to withdraw her statement and the AVO. Jacob asks if she loves Remi. Remi shakes his head behind Jacob’s back and Bree says no. Jacob doesn’t believe her. He grabs a hammer and hits Remi with it.

Rose and Stacey turn up at the flat, chatting amiably about their competition. Xander asks if they’ve seen his sister and girlfriend, who hate each other, and wonders what happened. Rose says she’s going for a shower and Stacey can fill him in. She overhears Stacey saying she’s not that bad after all. At the Diner, Stacey tells Xander that Rose wanted to talk and notes they could be good friends. John comes in and tries to give them advice on romance before asking if they’ve given any thought to a wedding present. Xander says they’re not invited.

At the surf club, Theo suggests to Kirby that Remi might be in trouble and owe money. Kirby says she’s never seen him like that: She tries to call him but gets voicemail. Theo suggests he’s with Bree and thinks if he needed help he’d tell them. At the motel, Remi’s hand is badly injured from the hammer blow. Bree asks Jacob to let her give him something for the pain but Jacob thinks it’s deserved for sleeping with her and tries to ask her for details, accusing her of destroying their marriage. Bree protests this isn’t the man she fell in love with. Jacob says they don’t know each other as well as they thought and threatens to kill Remi if she doesn’t come with him.

Back together at the flat, Rose is surprised to learn Stacey was a nurse. Stacey says it wasn’t for her and Rose says Xander trained as a nurse. Stacey tells Xander they’ll get to know each other on their weekend away. Xander says he was hoping to do other things, which Rose calls too much information. Stacey says they shouldn’t make her feel uncomfortable and Rose admits she hasn’t always welcomed her. She wishes them a good time.

At Salt, Theo shows Kirby a drawing that his fan has done of him and posted an image of online. Kirby is still worried about Remi. Mackenzie overhears and Kirby explains about him disappearing, also telling her about the guy at their house. Mackenzie says it could be Bree’s husband, in which case they should definitely be worrying.

Theo and Kirby exit the surf club. Kirby sees Rose and goes to talk to her while Theo takes a call from Justin. Kirby explains about Bree’s husband being violent but doesn’t know how to find her and Remi. Rose says they’ll check the database at the station. Back at the motel, Bree again begs Jacob to let her give Remi something for the pain. Jacob agrees and Bree gives Remi a painkilling tablet. Remi quietly tries to tell her not to go but she leaves with Jacob.

At the surf club, Theo gets a text from Kirby about going with Rose. John complains to him about not getting anyone to contribute to a wedding present and asks if he’s going. Theo says they’re playing at the reception, which John thinks means they’ll be on the staff table. Nearby, Dean gets a reminder on his phone that he has a birthing class with Ziggy tomorrow. He tells John he’s not sure why he needs to go: He knows how to support Ziggy and the doctor knows everything else. John replies that if Dean misses the class, Ziggy will kill him.

Later, Xander and Stacey are having a drink on the balcony at Salt. Xander notes that Rose hates losing. Stacey reminds him they have to go and pack. Xander is glad she and Rose sorted things out before they left. Stacey wonders how Rose will cope without Xander. Xander thinks she’ll enjoy the peace and quiet. Meanwhile, Remi is still tied up in the motel room. Kirby, Rose and another police officer turn up and let themselves in with the key, quickly confirming there’s no-one else in the room. Rose calls for an ambulance and a forensics team while Kirby comforts Remi.

Some time later, Theo joins Kirby at the hospital. She’s upset about Remi’s hand being smashed and blames herself for not calling the police sooner. She doesn’t want to tell Eden until after the wedding but tells Theo to let Nikau know they can’t play. In the treatment room, with Rose looking on, a doctor tells Remi that his hand has multiple fractures and there’s also soft tissue trauma and possible nerve damage. Rose says there’s a warrant out for Jacob’s arrest but Remi is worried that Bree hasn’t been found. The doctor tells Remi he needs to go to theatre straightaway to regain full use of his hand.
