Extended Summary

Coco and Raffy are still sorting the playlist when Ryder comes back. He says he has to get going and that Ty’s gone for a walk. Although he claims nothing happened, the girls are suspicious and Coco decides to go after him. At the surf club, Robbo is playing pool when Tori comes downstairs. He comments on the party and she explains that it’s Ash’s farewell drinks. Robbo is surprised and commiserates with her.

Coco tracks Ryder down at the Diner. He tries to say nothing happened but she knows that isn’t the case and reminds him he’s talked to her about opening up. Ryder takes her onto the veranda for a private chat and explains Ty kissed him. Coco wonders if he’s gay. Ryder says no-one would have a problem if he was but Coco points out Raffy might. They agree Ty’s probably feeling weird and they shouldn’t say anything until the morning or tell Raffy. Meanwhile, Raffy is leaving a phone message for Ty as John and Marilyn come home. She explains what happened but before they can worry too much, Ty turns up. He seems very agitated but says he’s just tired and is going to bed.

Next morning, Ash is on the beach for one last look round. Robbo comes over and wonders why he’s leaving. Ash recalls that Robbo once said Ash wouldn’t chase him out of town and says Robbo hasn’t chased him out: He’s lost a lot in Summer Bay but still has family overseas. Robbo notes it’ll be hard and Ash admits he isn’t sure Tori will say goodbye. Robbo offers his hand and Ash accepts it. Further down the beach, Ryder has met with Ty, who acts like he’s not sure what it’s about. Ryder points out Ty kissed him. Ty claims he was tired and thought he was Raffy, which convinces no-one. Ty angrily asks if Ryder’s saying he’s gay. Ryder says it’s not a problem but Ty walks away. Ryder goes after him but Ty reacts badly to Ryder touching his arm, repeatedly pushing Ryder away. Alf, John, Raffy and Coco hurry over and split them up.

Alf tries to question Ryder about what it was about. Ryder refuses to say, although he does point out he didn’t push Ty back. When Ryder continues to refuse to explain, Alf tells him to clean the surf club, then start on the caravan park including the toilet block. Meanwhile, Raffy and Coco go into the Diner. Raffy is confused by what happened and tells Marilyn, adding that Ty’s with John. Coco feigns ignorance about what it might be about. Raffy wonders if Ryder said something to Ty and wishes he could talk to her.

John and Ty are arriving back at the house with John on the phone to Marilyn, saying that Ty’s with him and more-or-less all right. Ty, who is again very agitated, still refuses to give any explanation for what happened and asks John to stop pushing. When John says they can help him, Ty says no-one can help him and he’s a freak. Very worried, John says he’ll go and get them some food and checks Ty’s okay to be on his own. Meanwhile, Raffy and Coco arrive at the surf club where Ryder is doing his cleaning. Raffy wants to know what Ryder did but Ryder says she’ll have to talk to Ty and Coco points out Ty was doing the pushing. After Raffy has gone, Ryder expains Ty reacted badly when he asked if he was gay and he thinks Ty has a problem with who he is.

Ash meets Justin at the Diner and says he’s sorted out the paperwork with the bank so they only need Justin’s signature and also sorted out insurance. They reflect on their friendship and Justin tells Ash to keep checking in so he knows he’s all right. Ash tries to get Justin to give Dean his job back but Justin refuses. He admits Tori has gone into work and feels she’ll regret not saying goodbye to Ash. Later, John comes in to get food from Marilyn. He’s worried about Ty and doesn’t understand why he’d act like this now when everything seems to be going well for him. Alf passes through and says he couldn’t get anything from Ryder. Marilyn thinks they just need to have a family meal to make Ty feel more at home.

John and Marilyn arrive home and are met by Raffy who tells them Ty isn’t there and all his stuff has gone. John goes to check and confirms it: It seems Ty’s done a runner. Meanwhile, Ash is waiting up on the headland, while Tori is at work and ignores a call from Justin. Robbo passes Ash and they exchange waves goodbye before Ash gets in the car and drives off. Justin turns up at the hospital and finds Tori chatting with Mason. He tries to get her to go after Ash and Mason does the same. Justin says it’s not about Ash, it’s about how Tori would feel after. Tori rushes out.

Ash is driving and approaches the “You are leaving Summer Bay” sign. He stops for a moment, then drives on. He passes Tori, who flashes her headlights and shouts at him. She does a three point turn and Ash stops, getting out of the car and saying she does his head in. Tori says she thought she was doing the right thing and was worried she’d grab him and stop him going, but knows he has to. Ash says when he first came to Summer Bay when he got out of jail he thought it was a paradise, and sometimes it was, but he has a lot of bad memories, although he calls her the best thing that’s ever happened to him. They say they’ll always love each other and Tori tells him to go make more memories. She says goodbye are hard, so they’ll just say “See you.” Ash kisses her and says he’ll see her, then drives away.
