Extended Summary

Ash heads down to the beach and heads out for a surf. At the Diner, Justin is telling Alf that Ash is leaving indefinitely. Tori then comes in and Justin sits her down and tells her there’s something he has to tell her that she won’t like, about Ash. Before he can tell her, however, she gets a text from Ash himself. She heads down to the beach where she explains to Ash that Justin said she should hear it from him. Ash tells her that he’s leaving the Bay – maybe for a month, maybe for a year – to go to Cyprus. Tori says he can’t just leave his home. Ash says he is but Tori refuses to believe it and walks away.

At the surf club, Ryder is on the phone to Coco, saying they need to finalise the wedding playlist. John offers his help, saying he’s got some classic albums. Ryder asks what albums are and John gives up, saying Ryder can leave if he tidies up. Raffy and Ty come in with their arms round each other but quickly disengage when Ryder tells them John’s nearby. Ryder explains they can’t go to Coco’s because Maggie’s resting. Raffy suggests they go to theirs, which won’t count as being alone if the others are there, and says she can show off her dress. Ty privately offers to play Ryder his mix.

At the Diner, Hunter queries why Olivia isn’t making Ziggy’s wedding dress while Olivia retorts that he’s meant to be planning a bachelor party. Tori comes back but insists to Justin that Ash isn’t going to go, saying he has his business in town. Justin says that her saying that isn’t going to stop him. Hunter and Olivia overhear and Olivia asks if Ash is leaving. Tori says he isn’t and leaves for work. Justin explains.

Hunter and Olivia walk near the beach, processing the news and noting Irene won’t be there to say goodbye. They run into Ash who says he’s leaving tomorrow and has just had his last surf. Hunter wryly notes VJ will “love” having him there and Olivia agrees he was good with Luc. She does a passable impression of Irene wishing him luck and Ash says he’s going to give Irene a call. Meanwhile, Tori is at work. She exchanges nods with work colleagues in the corridor but then stops, goes into her office and starts crying.

Hunter and Olivia share a juice at the surf club, commenting on all the changes with Ash leaving and Brody and Ziggy getting married. At the Diner, Alf is filling John and Marilyn in on Ash leaving and notes they’ll miss some of what he brings. John quips that they won’t miss him bringing the River Boys back and Marilyn scolds him, saying that was only once. Alf is suggesting organising a farewell as Hunter comes in and notes they’ll have to be quick: He leaves tomorrow. Alf says he’ll get people together at Salt. John wonders if they should check on Ryder and Ty but Marilyn says they’ll be okay.

Coco, Ryder, Raffy and Ty are all together at the Palmer house, playing potential wedding tracks. Ty gets drinks for himself and Ryder but the girls decline, saying it’s “lolly water”. They decide to take a break and Raffy and Coco go to change the former into her dress for the wedding. Ty offers to play one of his songs for Ryder and they listen to it on his laptop. Ty worries that Ryder hates it but Ryder insists he loves it and says it’s no wonder Ty has all the girls around him. Ty admits he’s never been with a girl before and asks if Ryder has. Ryder says not “with with” but thinks about it with Coco all the time. Ty says he thinks about it too, looking at Ryder. Coco introduces Raffy and Ryder compliments her but a distracted Ty says it’s great in an underwhelmed manner, then says he’s going out for some air. Disappointed, Raffy goes to get changed.

Justin arrives in Tori’s office in answer to her summons and she asks him to skip the “told you so”s. She notes that she’s spent all her life saying goodbye to people, and now that she’s finally got a home they keep leaving still. She says she’s done with it and won’t even see Ash off. The pair of them go for a walk on the headland. Justin thinks Tori’s making a mistake. Tori recalls that he’s said goodbye to people he loves and Justin notes he wanted to part on good terms with them. They see Ash nearby and he awkwardly waves to them. Justin leaves Ash and Tori alone.

Ash and Tori go for a walk on the beach. Tori knows he’s leaving tomorrow but thinks he should just hurry up and go. Ash suggests he might come back but Tori isn’t interested in waiting around for him and walks away. Later, Justin takes Ash to Salt where they find Alf, John, Marilyn, Hunter and Olivia waiting to surprise him. They note they couldn’t just let him go and reminisce about him walking sand into the Diner, the bait shop and the garage. Ash makes a short speech saying they’ve always been good to him and, while he hasn’t always done the right thing, they always welcome him back afterwards. He drinks a toast to them, and they reciprocate by drinking one to him.

Raffy, Coco and Ryder are trying to find a last song for the playlist. Ryder suggests Ty’s song. Raffy is surprised that he’s heard it, since she thought she was the only one. Coco suggests that he just wanted Raffy to hear it first but Raffy wonders if it’s another sign that he’s not into her. Coco suggests Raffy go check on him but Raffy thinks Ryder should go. Ryder says he’ll help tidy up first. At Salt, Ash teases Olivia about shirking wedding dress duties while Hunter notes he needs to teach Luc to surf before VJ messes it up. Tori comes in and accuses Justin of getting her there under false pretenses; although she stays, she doesn’t approach Ash. Later, he follows her out onto the balcony. He again suggests he might not be gone forever. Tori says things haven’t changed since the previous week: They might have stood a chance if he’d stayed but she can’t wait. Ash asks her to come and wave him off but she refuses.

Ryder joins Ty outside and sits down next to him. Ty asks if Ryder really liked his song and Ryder says he loved it. Inside, Raffy wishes Ty could talk to her like he does to Ryder. Coco reassures her that she’s the one Ty likes. Outside, Ryder comments on how annoying girls are. Ty tells Ryder he likes him and Ryder says he likes him too. However, when Ty kisses him, he pulls back, saying he didn’t mean like that. Ryder tries to talk to Ty but Ty rushes off.
