Extended Summary

John, Marilyn and Raffy search the beach for Ty. Marilyn worries that he’s hitch-hiking but John suspects that he’s just letting off steam and decides that they should call Alf and Ryder. Raffy is confused. At the caravan park, Alf takes a phone call from John and passes the news on to Ryder. Ryder says he doesn’t know where Ty is but is a bit more evasive when Alf wonders if he knows why he’s run off, saying they should concentrate on finding him. After Alf has gone, Ryder leaves a phone message for Ty saying he’s sorry if he embarassed him and doesn’t care what he is.

Ty is out in the bush, sitting peacefully on the edge of a drop. Back at the Diner, Justin finds Tori and confirms she managed to say goodbye to Ash. He says he’s brought a break-up pack including salted caramel ice cream and cheese and onion crisps (which he isn’t too keen on). Tori says it feels like she’s been saying goodbye to Ash for months and she’s just going to do yoga. She does take the crisps though.

At the surf club, John and Marilyn are both worried with John blaming himself for leaving Ty alone when he was upset. Alf and Ryder turn up. Raffy accuses Ryder of knowing something but Ryder continues to be evasive. Alf thinks it’s obvious Ty has gone although Raffy tries to deny it. They decide to look at a map to work out how far he could have got. Ryder retires to a corner and leaves another message for Ty. Alf overhears and takes him outside. Ryder initially tries to dodge the interrogation but eventually says that Ty kissed him. He thinks Alf might be too old school to understand. Alf admits he doesn’t know much about it but understand Ryder’s handling of it. However, he does insist they have to tell John and Marilyn.

Ty looks at his phone and sees he has several missed calls from both John and Ryder. He looks through his photos on his phone, seeing photos of himself with Raffy and/or Ryder, with Coco, scenic shots and finally one of himself with John and Marilyn. He starts crying. Back at the surf club, Alf and Ryder tell John and Marilyn about the kiss. Alf tells Ryder he did the right thing but should have told them sooner. Marilyn worries that Ty might have “done something stupid” which John denies a bit too strenuously. He decides to drive around and look. Alf goes with him. In the bush, Ty listens to Ryder’s message. He contemplates phoning him back but ultimately gets up and walks away. However, he then loses his footing and rolls down a steep embankment.

On the beach, Tori is attempting her yoga session but keeps having flashbacks of Ash: Them getting together, their last reunion and their farewell. Eventually, she gives up and packs her mat away. At the Diner, Justin runs into Raffy, who is looking for Ty. Raffy lets slip that she and Ty are going out. Justin is not happy but can see that she’s worried so says that he’ll help her look and give her a lecture afterwards.

Ty is lying injured, with his phone a few yards away. It’s too painful for him to walk but he manages to drag himself over to it. Alf and John arrive back at the surf club and tell Marilyn, Justin and Raffy they didn’t find him. Ryder then gets a phone call from Ty. It keeps dropping out but Ryder manages to get that he’s in the bush, injured and “Cathedral Rock”. Raffy reminds Ryder of when he and Ty skipped last period and went into the bush (Ryder stresses that it was only once). Ryder says it was a rock split in two and points it out on a map. Alf and John head off again.

Alf and John search the bush on foot. John stops; he feels he has failed Ty who obviously couldn’t talk to him. Alf tells him to just focus on finding Ty for now. Back at the Diner, Raffy is also wondering why Ty couldn’t talk to her. Ryder says it was his fault, then hastily amends the comment, saying he and Ty had a fight. Marilyn comes to his rescue, saying they’ll find out soon enough.

Ty hears Alf and John calling and manages to attract their attention. He has hurt his ankle and cut his head. Alf calls for help while John hugs Ty, saying he was worried about him. At Salt, Justin tells Tori about Raffy and Ty. He is annoyed that John and Marilyn didn’t stop it happening. Tori says they can’t protect Raffy from heart-ache, just be there for her. Justin brings up Tori’s heartbreak and she admits that she had a plan for her future and thought she’d have it with Ash, but now has to accept it might not happen. Justin thinks it’s time they went and had ice cream.

Alf and John are waiting outside a hospital room. Marilyn, Ryder and Raffy turn up. When the doctor comes out, John and Marilyn convince Raffy to let them see Ty first. They ask him why he ran away, saying they know about the kiss and he has nothing to be ashamed or afraid of. Ty accepts that he’s gay, saying he’s tried to pretend he’s not. They tell him that Raffy’s waiting to see him. Ty can’t face telling her, worried that she’ll hate him, and asks them to do it. They go out and take Raffy aside, leaving Alf and Ryder to go and get drinks. Raffy thinks they’re going to lecture her for dating Ty. They tell her about him kissing Ryder. Raffy is horrified as the implications sink in.

Raffy knocks on Ty’s door and goes in to see him. She tells him that she’s glad he’s OK but also asks why, if he’s gay, he kissed her and became her boyfriend. She feels as though he’s been using her. Ty insists he hasn’t: He didn’t understand what he was feeling so did what he thought he was supposed to do. Raffy storms out angry and blames John, Marilyn and Ryder for not telling her, saying she never wants to see any of them again.
