Extended Summary
Ric’s fury gets the better of him and he is lashing out. Cassie feels powerless and starts crying, begging Ric to stop… but he doesn’t.
Beth returns from the beach. She’s closed down now, completely insular and quiet. All Beth wants to do is comfort Robbie and Henry, who are also despondent and quiet. Tasha rushes in and joins them. Scott’s sitting alone. Hayley spots him and approaches. The awkwardness between them before this tragedy is not important now. Henry finally snaps – he wants everyone to stop acting like Matilda’s gone, she’s not! His ranting continues as his anger gives way to tears. Beth holds him as he cries.
Peter reveals there’s been a report of a young girl being taken in to a house on Kingsbury Road. Jesse, Martha and Scott are heartened by the news and Scott immediately wants to get out there. Alf tries to calm them down – but his words are useless as they head out the door. When he gets off the phone, Peter is furious that the guys have rushed off and quickly races off after them…
Scott and the others approach the house. Impatient, Scott breaks a small window so he can reach in and open the front door, but there’s no sign of Matilda and the shack appears to be empty. Peter tells him there’s no evidence Matilda was even here. A fifty-something man, Terry Rawlings, returns to the house, surprised to find the police have broken in. Scott has to be pulled off the bemused Terry, who wants to know what the hell is going on?! Peter takes Terry into the station for questioning and he denies knowing anything about Matilda. Peter has no choice but to let Terry go.
Meanwhile, Matilda wakes up in a dingy looking shed. She calls out ‘hello’ but there’s no response. She tries the door and windows but they’re locked. Fear sets in as Matilda realises she’s trapped! She attempts to force the window open, becoming increasingly frustrated as everything she tries fails. She’s about to give up when she sees something out the window – it’s Scott, Jesse and the others. Matilda calls out at the top of her lungs – but Scott and the others are too far away to hear. Matilda’s hopes are crushed as she watches her rescuers walking away!
Scott appreciates Hayley’s support and comments on how glad he is to have her. He reckons it’s a wise move to put all that other stuff behind them. Hayley goes quiet and Scott picks up on it, asking her if she still want to take a break? Hayley prevaricates – but it’s clear she does. Angry, Scott storms out. Hayley calls after him… but Scott keeps going. Hayley is left deflated.
Matilda is sitting, curled up on the bed, crying to herself…when she hears a rattle at the door. Matilda reacts – and looks up to see the door handle starting to turn. Someone’s coming in – she looks across in fear… what will she do? Matilda’s hiding behind on old lounge chair as the mystery person moves in to the room. Despite her fear, she peers out to see a man. It’s Terry! He calls out to her – where are you? I won’t hurt you… Matilda’s scared. After a moment, as Terry gets closer, Matilda bursts from her hiding spot, knees him in the crotch, and runs from the house… Terry hot on her heels…
