Summer Bay is in turmoil in the wake of the chilling climax to the Stalker’s reign of terror. Tormented by her experience, Sally contemplates a life changing decision.
Extended Summary
An article in the paper reveals Macklins is planning to build a small resort at the Caravan Park. Tasha feels betrayed by Josie. Most people feel they need to band together to fight the development. Sally’s feeling strange. She thinks something has changed since the Stalker incident but she doesn’t know what. The magic’s been lost. Josie and Brett offer Sally and Flynn $1 million for the house. Sally and Flynn are flabbergasted. Flynn’s more stunned when Sally says they should think about it. After everything that’s happened and thinking of Pippa’s future – maybe it’s time for a fresh start.
Jesse’s bitter about Josie but Tasha won’t commit to fighting the development because she doesn’t want to fight a member of her own family. Jesse finds Josie and Brett alone in the Diner and they have an argument and come to blows. Brett tells Jesse if it happens again he’ll press charges. Jesse is brooding about this and Martha says she’s worried about how he’s letting this get to him. Jesse promises to chill, but it’s obvious his old anger problem is resurfacing.
Today is Joy’s funeral and everyone’s going. Colleen tells Beth that despite her differences with Joy, she didn’t deserve what she went through. The funeral brings up bad memories for Ric, but he’s a tower of strength for a nervous Cassie. The wake is held at the Diner and everyone marvels at Cassie’s strength. Alf is proud of Ric’s maturity. Cassie suggests to Matilda and Henry that they hang out. Colleen tries to apologies to Cassie but Cassie assures her it’s not her fault.
Josie enters the Diner but Irene says she’s not welcome anymore. Josie rips into the town. Tasha rips into Josie – can’t she see what she’s doing to herself and everyone? Tasha marches out and over to the Surf Club to find Martha and Jesse. She announces she’s going to help them fight the development. Cassie asks Ric about life after death. She can’t feel Joy. She doesn’t feel like she’s really had closure. Sally and Flynn offer her a place to stay with them. She accepts happily and her photo goes on the mantelpiece.
People are afraid to come out of their houses after the Stalker catastrophe. Alf organises a town meeting and gives a stirring speech. His words have a great effect. Sally decides not to sell the house. Josie and Brett turn up at the meeting and ask for local support, but there’s no enthusiasm. Josie and Brett won’t back down. Neither will the locals. Macklins versus Summer Bay is about to begin…
