Extended Summary

Jade lies unconscious on the sea shore.

Rhys, Beth, and Shelley sit in silence. The phone rings and Rhys snatches it up, to hear that Jade’s been found.

Hyde orders a carrot cake (good choice, that’s my fave cake too!) and coffee at the diner. Don is sitting at a booth, and Hyde recognises him from a conference, and introduces him as the new principal. He commiserates about the accident saying Seb ‘was a fine young man’. Fisher pointedly corrects the the past tense, saying ‘he still is’. Colleen bursts in, asking if they’ve heard the good news.

Jade’s in her hospital bed, recounting to Beth, Rhys, Shelley, and Kirsty what she remembers of the accident, and apologises for making everyone worry. Dani runs in, and hugs Jade. Jade asks after Seb, and cries over how stupid she’s been. Kirsty and Shelley try to console her and tell her to get some rest.

Hyde has been telling Don about the lock-in, and the two debate the line between discipline and letting the kids have a voice. I’m glad these two met and interacted about this during Norman Coburn’s brief return. Irene spots Don and hugs him, asking after Seb. Don reports there’s no change but it at least looks like he’ll live. He asks how Irene has been, and she guesses he’s heard that she’s no longer with the school. Fisher diplomatically supposes Hyde and her both had their reasons. Irene thinks it was all for the best, and once she’s left Hyde refers to her as one more thing he could have handled better. Fisher tells him, that while Irene may be a remarkable woman she would try the patience of a saint, which neither of them are. Hyde agrees that she is a “remarkable woman” and looks across at her consideringly.

Colleen’s happy to see Sally’s back, and they hug. Colleen then chatters happily about Leah coming over to see Flynn and support him, which Sal looks a trifle uneasy about.

Don and Alf pop in to see Jade. They carefully try to avoid answering her questions about how Seb is, but she persists. They eventually break it to her that he’s had spinal damage and the doctors don’t think he’ll walk again.

Sally visits Leah at the Diner. They awkwardly talk around the situation until Leah makes an excuse of getting back to work.

Sally visits Jesse at the gym, and they hug. These two have a very nice friendship chemistry, and while I wouldn’t want them to be a couple long-term, I wouldn’t say no to seeing them share their own kiss in extreme circumstances. They discuss the situation, and Jesse thinks Leah may have been feeling guilty when she spoke to Sally earlier. He doesn’t think she and Flynn ‘did’ anything (if only he knew!), but he is sure that there was something there, and Sally doesn’t disagree.

Jade is standing over Seb’s hospital bed watching him sleep. When Shelley finds her, Jade would rather be alone. As Jade goes back into her room, Shelley tries to tell her it wasn’t her fault, but Jade isn’t buying it.

Jesse and Leah are at their home. Jesse ventures that it’s good to see Sally and Flynn are getting back on track. He continues that if he had done something stupid, Leah would want him to tell her, because secrets always come out anyway. Leah fumbles that she’ll check on VJ and beats a hasty retreat into the other room, even though Jesse points out he didn’t hear anything from VJ’s room.

Montage of scenes of time passing while Jade is in Seb’s hospital, ending with her lying beside him in bed. Is that safe? I could be way off, but isn’t immobility kind of important with a broken back? Let’s hope she’s not a kicker in her sleep. Seb wakes up, and can’t believe it’s her, but she reassures him that reports of her death were greatly exagerated. She tries to apologise for that night, but all that he needs to know is that she’ll be there for him now, as he’s scared. She reassures him she will be, and kisses him.

Hyde joins Irene at her coffee booth. She suspiciously allows that he can ask her something, but when he gets too roundabout she gets the wrong end of the stick and assumes he wants her to spy on Kim, and lets him have it, before stalking off to join Sally and Don at their table. Also nice to see those three sharing a scene too, even a minor one. Fisher’s time has been used well. Irene complains about Hyde, and Fisher’s all ‘I dunno, dude seemed awright to me earlier’ (possibly more articulately than that), before joking he can’t be as bad as Angela Russell. Nice references to the past there too.

KK visit Seb in hospital, who bitterly excuses himself for ‘not getting up’. They tell him they’re really sorry about the accident. Oh yuk, I hate the brown sleeveless shirt they’ve got Kane in with some weird swirly design around the top. Kane comments that Seb may get sent to the same rehab place he did, where they’ve got good people. Seb asks why he’d get sent to rehab when he won’t be walking again. Kirsty tries to tell him that they told Kane the same thing (actually, I don’t think they did, did they?), and Kane agrees, saying he just had to get better so as not to lose Kirsty. Kirsty says she would have stayed with him either way, but Kane’s automatically responds back ‘but I wouldn’t have let you’, before realising he’d put his foot in it. Seb is upset, saying that if Jade stays with him she’d be wasting her life. Kane tries to backtrack, but Seb just wants to be alone.

Hyde intercepts Irene as she is leaving the diner, and she gets riled up again. He is equally indignant, saying she makes him even angrier than his ex-wife did (as a way to woo, that’s an interesting approach), and that he was trying to ask her out to dinner earlier. Irene squirms.

Sally and Leah see eachother while walking, and Sally tries to chat about them having their traditional foursome dinner, but Leah rushes off side-stepping the invite. Irene passes Sally looking dazed, and then doubles back to her to moan about ‘dining with the enemy’, revealing that she’s accepted a date with Jekyll. Irene’s horrified delivery is priceless.

Beth and Dani arrive at the palace and find a box containing a funeral wreath. Beth hesitantly wonders if someone sent it regarding Jade, but Dani knows it’s meant for her. It’s from someone who’s trying to shut her up, but it won’t work.
