Haydn and Fin decide to work together to overcome the gambling bug. Tug faces the most difficult test of his life.

Extended Summary

Fin talks to Haydn about their relationship. She asks Irene some questions as to whether she’d trust an addict, and Irene says it would depend on how much you love him and whether he is honest.

Sam and Irene have prepared a cake for Tug. She asks him what he thinks of the cake and he thinks it’s alright: his reason is that he has never seen a cake in these colours! They clean up the kitchen and Irene runs the tap, only to find there is no hot water. She just remembers she switched it off and switches it back. While she is out, Sam tries to eat some of the cake. There is a rattling noise, and Irene shouts at him, asking him what is he doing. Thinking she has caught him eating the cake, he says he’s doing nothing. The noise is coming from underneath the sink. She worries that it may explode and he suggests they get out. The next minute, the taps burst open and water rushes out. They rush to block it, but to no avail. She tells him to move the cake and the ingredients out of the kitchen and asks him to switch off the mains. He switches it off, but the water is still coming out. She discovers he has turned the wrong one off and tells him where the other one is.

Fin has just come in and gazes at the incident in the kitchen. Irene’s answer to Fin when she asks what is happening is “Niagara Falls”! Fin still stands there and Irene orders her to give him a hand. The plumber is trying to fix the pipes when Sam tells him water jokes. Irene tells Sam to leave him alone as he charges by the hour, and Fin agrees to take him home.

Fin asks Haydn about his last bet, how and why he did it. She asks him would he be prepared to fight his addiction. He says he does not want to be a gambler and would like to know if she would stick with him. She tells him that he must be completely honest and if he gets any temptation, he must tell her. He agrees and she says, “Lets fight it together”.

It’s judgment day for Tug. Roxy is the first witness and is asked some questions. She answers truthfully. Alf is up next, and does a good job when he advises the judge that she should give him a break. Luke answers more questions and mentions Tug’s learning disability. He is asked by a solicitor about the extent of the disability. Luke tries to explain but ends up messing it.

It is now time for a recess. Luke apologises for being a poor character witness. Tug tells him it would not make any difference as he is sure he’ll be sent down anyway. Tug tells Nick that he hopes he’ll get off as he is not feeling too confident. Everyone is called back and the judge speaks. She understands Tug’s situation but points out that no matter what happens, you can’t steal. She does not condone stealing and explains his charges and fines. She then imposes a sentence of three months in a detention centre. Everyone looks disappointed, especially Tug.

Everyone arrives into the Diner after the court and fill Ailsa in the news. She asks how is Tug. He is feeling depressed and Sarah suggests she go over to him. Luke stops her as Tug wants to be left alone. Tug is out on bail until the appeal. He complains that everyone has said he’ll be OK and now he has a 3-month sentence, and tells Luke that the appeal would not make any difference. He is not feeling too confident, but Luke convinces him to hold it together until the appeal – if he can survive this, he can survive anything. This is his real tough test…
