Sally gives Pippa the silent treatment. Alf catches Emma playing truant from school.

Extended Summary

Pippa is knitting while Ben is on the phone to his mother at Summer Bay House. Sally tries to butter Pippa up so she can ride on Adam’s motorbike again, but Pippa won’t budge. Grant arrives to tell Ben that their dinner party with Jane and Carly is off. Ben senses Grant and Jane have had a domestic.

Walking home from school, Emma tells Paul and Steven she has got an interview with a personnel officer in the city tomorrow for the resort job and asks them to cover for her at school. She doesn’t want Alf and Ailsa to know.

Ben and Sally are buying a frozen pizza from Marilyn at the store when Adam arrives. Sally asks him if she can have another ride on the bike but Adam refuses to go against Pippa’s wishes. On arriving home, Sally has another disagreement with Pippa over the bike and yells at her that she’s not a kid any more.

Marilyn arrives home at the beach house with some new books including an Othello book she’s planning to give to Mr Fisher as a present. Matt and Adam recognise it as the book they copied the replacement for Marilyn’s ruined essay from. The following morning, Adam has hidden the book. Marilyn asks them to bring it to her at school if they find it.

Sally asks Steven to brush her hair for her as she’s not talking to Pippa. Pippa says for a grown up, Sally is doing an amazing imitation of a little kid! Steven and Sally leave for school and Steven tells Sally she should apologise to Pippa, but Sally accuses him of taking Pippa’s side.

Paul is waiting with Emma, who is in her interview clothes, at the bus stop. He doesn’t understand why she had to apply for a job so far away. The bus arrives and Emma gets on.

Sally comes into the store as she saw Adam’s bike outside. She doesn’t understand Adam’s Get Smart reference and bites his head off too. Later at the beach, Adam asks Ben about Sally’s mood and feels responsible. There must be something he can do.

At the school, Marilyn asks Grant if he has seen Matt or Adam today but Grant says they left school a couple of years ago! He asks Paul and Steven where Emma is today and Paul claims she has the flu. Paul is in a bad mood because of Emma’s interview. Steven asks if he can see anyone giving Emma a hostess job. Paul says that’s the trouble… he can.

At the store, grant hints about the problems he’s having with Jane, and Alf says it will take them a while to get to know one another. Grant mentions Emma’s flu but Alf says he saw Emma leave for school this morning. Alf returns to the school with Grant and they confront the boys. Paul reluctantly reveals that Emma is in the city.

Adam visits Pippa to apologise and takes her outside to look at how solid the bike is. Pippa mentions she used to have a boyfriend with a motorbike and she loved it. Adam talks her into going for a spin around the caravan park.

It’s the end of the school day, and Paul is worried about Emma’s reaction. Marilyn is disappointed they didn’t get their essays back. She notices Steven has an old copy of the Othello book and is surprised as she thought it was new and bought a copy for Mr Fisher. Steven says he’s probably read it a hundred times, and Paul says you don’t buy presents for teachers.

Pippa has enjoyed her ride in the sidecar. Adam spots that Sally has seen them. Pippa finds Sally in the house and tells her that some adults like to re-live the fun they had as kids. She has come up with a compromise. Cut to Adam taking them both for a ride in the sidecar!

The bus pulls up and Emma gets off, to be confronted by Alf. She has got a lot of explaining to do.
