Extended Summary

At the coffee cart, John compliments Irene on her appearance before asking for her help with Alf’s presentation. Irene thinks he should get one of the committee members to help him. John says that after the cocktail night, they think he’s good at this sort of stuff. Irene agrees to help, suggesting he also gets Marilyn involved, and Leah when she comes back. John predicts that Leah and Justin are having the time of their lives… Cut to Leah lifting the rubble off Justin as he regains consciousness. She tries to tend to him as he suspects he’s broken some ribs. Leah says he was lucky. Justin points out their only way out just collapsed.

Rose turns up at the launch and tells Theo that Mali’s busy with Zara. Theo comments on her looking glamorous. They both express disappointment that Eden and Remi couldn’t be there. Meanwhile, at home, Eden complains to Remi about how everyone thinks they have a right to tell them they should go to the launch and says they’re cool with their decision. She suggests a night of pizza, music and beer.

In her dressing room, Kirby tells Forrest she’s never had to do something like this without the others and it feels weird. Forrest suggests her dreams are coming true. He tells her to shake the feeling off, then get out on stage and be awesome. Back at the house, Eden is nursing a beer and checking her watch, while Remi is idly strumming the guitar. They stop and look at each other.

Forrest introduces Kirby as a star in the making. Kirby anxiously makes it out onto stage, managing to smile as she reaches the microphone and begins the song, Open Door, which has the theme of finding out who you are. She pauses in the middle as Eden and Remi appear, having got changed into smarter clothes, and give her encouraging looks. Kirby finishes the song to rapturous applause.

Afterwards, Kirby hugs Theo, Rose, Eden and Remi in turn and notes she didn’t expect them to be there. Eden says, with only the slightest trace of irony, that they weren’t going to sit at home eating pizza. Forrest drags Kirby away to an interview.

Irene tells John he’ll need something to present to Alf and also a cake. John asks Irene to do that and also to sort out a catering quote, saying it’s important to keep busy. Irene realises he’s doing this at least partly to distract her and insists everything’s fine. John suggests she at least asks Rose’s opinion next time she sees her. Meanwhile, Leah finds a cloth to fold up and put under Justin’s head. Looking around, she makes a feeble attempt to pile up some wreckage in order to reach the remains of the pipe. Justin tells her not to and she goes back to him as he struggles to breathe.

Forrest introduces Kirby to the press as they photograph her. However, Kirby’s attention is focused on her friend. Not long after, Forrest follows Kirby into the dressing room, annoyed at her performance and saying there’s five more interviews lined up. Kirby says this isn’t her and she wants to go back to Lyrik: Being out there without them felt wrong. Forrest says he didn’t do this for fun and she has to fulfil the conttract she signed, telling her to get ready for the next interview.

At the Diner, John asks Irene if they really need a plaque for Alf, suggesting a framed certificate instead. Rose turns up, saying the tiny hors d’oeuvres at the launch weren’t enough to soak up the bubbly. Irene offers her a burger. John asks her opinion on what’s likely to happen to Irene. Rose says that, since neither of them have heard anything, she thinks it’s all good.

At Salt, Kirby (now back in the outfit she went to the launch in), Theo, Eden and Remi take a selfie. Kirby says today has taught her that her friends are what’s important: She wants to go back to Lyrik. Theo asks what about her solo career and Eden asks if she’s sure. She insists she is, although admits she has to get out of the contract with Forrest first. Theo and Eden welcome her back but Remi says she’s making a big mistake and Lyrik’s dead.

Later, Eden finds Remi drinking at home, saying this is what they wanted. Remi thinks Lyrik is gone: They haven’t played a gig in ages and have lost their fans. Eden thinks they can re-launch the album or make a new one. Remi retorts that they’re broke. He asks her if she trusts Kirby, who he doesn’t think will walk away after Forrest has spent all that money.

Leah is doing her best to comfort a deteriorating Justin. He says he shouldn’t have brought her on the trip and should have looked into it and made sure it was real. As he starts to slip into unconsciousness, Leah desperately tells him they’re going to get out of there and then he’s going to marry her. That’s enough to get him to open his eyes and she asks him to marry her. Justin says of course.

Next morning, Irene and John are at the Diner, discussing plans for contacting Roo about a slideshow. They greet Theo and Kirby who say the event went well but Kirby’s rejoining Lyrik. John pales at the idea of more band rehearsal but says she should do it if it’s what she wants. They admit they need to convince Remi. Rose and another officer turn up and Irene asks if they’re doing the station coffee run. Rose says she’s arresting Irene for hindering a police investigation.

Leah lies next to a prone Justin. She notices graffiti on the wall, reading “The End is Nigh”…and then realises there’s a pipe next to it, and another beam, and the pipe leads up to another structure above them. She tells the unconscious Justin she’s going to get them out of there, then nervously starts climbing the beam.
