Kirby feels betrayed. Kahu leaves Tane in the lurch. The search for Andrew’s family hits a dead end.
Extended Summary
Tane and Felicity are walking on the beach, with Tane filling her in on what’s been going on with Kahu, who is meant to be meeting them at Salt after he’s spoken to his mum. As they walk on, Cash and Eden emerge from the sea nearby. Eden asks Cash when he has to go to work and Cash admits it’s soon. Eden then gets a text calling a band meeting.
Theo and Kirby re-enter the Lyrik house. Theo tries to get Kirby to calm down but she knocks on Remi’s door and insists he talk to them, having a go at him for cancelling the gig to enter a competition. Remi says they can use the money to fund the album. Kirby asks what the venues and the fans will make of this. Eden comes home and Kirby tells Remi to tell her what he’s done.
Tane and Felicity have reached the balcony at Salt. Felicity notes she hoped he’d make up with Kahu, since he’s happier with family around. Tane wonders where Kahu is and goes to phone him but Felicity stops him, suggesting Kahu might want time on his own. Meanwhile, Kirby wants to rebook the gigs but Theo and Eden aren’t exactly jumping at the idea. Theo says they all agreed to do the album but Kirby doesn’t think that gave Remi the right to do this. Theo gets a text from Justin and leaves, with Remi also leaving. Eden points out to Kirby that Remi’s passionate.
Theo finds Justin at Salt, surprising Justin who expected to see him at home. Justin says Andrew’s quiet since seeing the social worker. He asks Theo to take the takeaway meal home while he goes to see Cash. Theo nearly shows him the missing persons page but stops when Justin says he’s worried he’s got Andrew’s hopes up.
Justin goes to see Cash, who admits he keeps hitting dead ends in the search for Andrew’s mum. He says the taskforce investigating Vita Nova don’t consider it a priority since Andrew’s over sixteen and the report was over a decade ago. Justin suggests he goes and sees Vita Nova but Cash warns him he could lead them to Andrew.
Kirby reminds Eden they’re supposed to all makE decisions together. Eden dithers over giving an opinion on the competition leaving Kirby feeling she’s taking Remi’s side. Kirby goes to bed. Eden goes to Remi’s room to confront him but he insists he’s doing what’s best for the band and shuts the door on her. Next morning, Tane meets up with Felicity near the beach: Kahu didn’t turn up to work to set up for a class. He wonders if he even spoke to his mother and decides to head home to look for him.
Justin tells Theo that Leah and Andrew have gone shopping for some books. Theo tries to show him the page again but Justin has to head to counselling. Kirby turns up and tries to talk to Justin about Remi but he says he doesn’t have time for band stuff. Kirby tries to talk to Theo but he isn’t really listening, focusing on the laptop and eventually telling her there’s bigger problems in the world.
Meanwhile, Remi wakes up to find Eden sat by his bed. He asks if she’s been there all night. Eden tells him he’s behaving like Bob and reminds him that he was never happy when Bob made decisions for all of them. She tells him the band are supposed to be equals.
Tane turns up at Salt and tells Felicity all Kahu’s stuff’s gone. He realises he has done a flit and decides to call his mum. When he gets off the call, he tells Felicity that Kahu still hasn’t spoken to his mother. Tane didn’t want to be the one to fill her in and has given up on Kahu, who he says takes advantage of him every time.
Theo continues to be focusing on the alerts on his page while Kirby calls one of the venues to try and save the gig. She tries to interest Theo but he says this is more important to him now. He eventually suggests that she’s doing what Remi did by acting on her own and they should solve it as a group. At the Diner, Cash has joined Eden for a coffee after a night shift. He is in a frustrated mood, having hit several more dead ends. Eden suggests he come back to hers for a shower and a rest. She then gets a text about another band meeting.
Theo and Kirby have joined Remi. Theo suggests they have a vote on Remi’s plan. Remi agrees, saying he was out of line. Kirby asks what happens in the event of a tie and Remi suggests they give Justin the casting vote. Eden turns up and Cash goes to bed. Kirby says they’re losing a week of gigs and Remi says it’s a good opportunity. Theo, Remi and Eden all vote for the plan, with Kirby annoyed Theo voted against her.
Later, things have descended into an argument, with Kirby accusing Theo of a lack of support. She walks out and Eden goes after her, as Cash also appears. Theo tells Remi they’d fight about something else if it wasn’t this and hopes Eden can get through to Kirby. After Remi has gone to his room, Theo approaches Cash and shows him the missing persons page: Most of the comments have just been offering support but the last few say they have information.
Justin is staring out to sea in a pensive mood. Tane comes along and suggests he forget about whatever it is but Justin says you don’t give up on family. Tane then gets a call and confirms he hasn’t used the business credit card in over a week, asking about suspicious transactions. Later, Tane finds Felicity outside the surf club and says Kahu used the gym’s credit card to rent a houseboat. He says he’s going to go and get him.
