Extended Summary

Near the beach, Eden tries to talk to Kirby who admits that, in addition to the competition, she’s worried about how things are going with Theo and the fact they’re always arguing. Eden offers to talk about it but Kirby asks for some time alone. Eden sees Tane but he ignores her when she greets him. Back at the Lyrik house, Cash has changed into his police uniform. He checks with Theo that Justin doesn’t know what he did and says they need to go down the station to sort this out. Eden comes home and Cash tells her something urgent’s come up. After Cash and Theo have gone, Eden knocks on Remi’s door and finds him about to go out on a date with Bree. Eden advises him to talk to Kirby sooner rather than later.

Cash tells Theo he’ll talk to the people who say they have information and also needs to check the identities of everyone else who’s posted on there. He explains that the cult almost certainly know about the page, which is why Theo shouldn’t have put it up without consulting the police, but it’s too late to take it down now. He asks Theo to put a note on the page telling anyone with information to contact Yabbie Creek Police Station, and also says they need to tell Justin. Back at the Morgan house, Leah is helping Andrew with some fumbling attempts at reading, with Justin also giving him encouragement. Justin gets a text from Cash asking him to come in.

Cash and Theo fill in Justin on the page and how Cash has only just found out about it. Justin is pleased if it helps find Andrew’s mum. Theo get a text from Kirby and they tell him he can go. Meanwhile, Kirby is sat in Salt when Remi and Bree come in. Bree calls over to her but Kirby quickly makes her excuses and leaves. Remi admits things aren’t good but declines to go after her.

Kahu is strumming his guitar on the deck of the houseboat when a speedboat approaches: Tane is standing up next to the driver. Kahu asks what he’s doing there and Tane retorts that he could ask him the same thing. After the speedboat has dropped him off, Tane tries to demand answers from Kahu, saying he stole his credit card and took off. Kahu says he can explain, then realises he can’t, so just gives the credit card back. He tries to order Tane off the boat but Tane retorts that, since he paid for it, it’s his boat,

Eden finds Remi and Bree back at the Lyrik house. Remi says he tried to talk to Kirby but she wasn’t interested and he’ll try again tomorrow. Eden says that Kirby’s meant to be his friend and he seems not to care. After Eden has gone, Bree agrees that Remi should talk to Kirby, saying she knows he cares more about his friends than a competition.

Andrew is continuing his reading but struggles with some tricky words. Leah suggests getting something to eat. Andrew asks for cake and Leah suggests they make one, with Justin offering to taste it. Leah gets Andrew to read out the ingredients, which he does fairly well at. Justin quietly tells Leah he’ll tell her what Cash said later.

Eden turns up at the police station and tells Cash she’s never had this much difficulty keeping a guy in her bed before but she didn’t bring any of the others coffee and lunch either. At that moment, a woman comes in and tells Cash that she’s Esther Lawrence and thinks he might have found her son Andrew. Back on the house boat, Tane is now strumming the guitar while Kahu hides below deck. Kahu eventually gives up and emerges. Tane says he phoned Kahu’s mum and knows he didn’t talk to her, so asks him to explain what’s going on or he’ll call her back and tell her.

Remi and Bree say their goodbyes before she heads into work, with Eden saying doctors calling in sick doesn’t go down well. Kirby turns up and Remi and Eden convince her to stay and talk. Remi says they won’t do the Battle of the Bands if Kirby doesn’t want to. Kirby says she shouldn’t have taken losing the vote so personally and Remi’s never let her down before: She’ll do it. However, she’s not sure how things are with Theo. Eden comments to Remi that if they don’t win the competition, it’ll be for nothing.

Cash joins Esther in the interview room and returns her ID, which is in the name of Esther Jamieson. She says she changed her name about ten years ago and that she looked for Andrew for years. Cash reminds her she said that she thought the cult had taken him. Esther says she tried to get answers from them at first but needed a fresh start. Cash says Andrew’s ten minutes away and the family he’s staying with are expecting her.

Theo is pleased that the page he set up worked. Leah checks on Andrew, who is sitting in silence. Theo decides to give them some space after telling Andrew it’s good to be nervous but it’s going to be great. Cash and Esther turn up and Leah and Justin introduce themselves. Esther hugs Andrew, who looks uncomfortable. Out on the house boat, Kahu explains to Tane that his mother gave him all her savings and borrowed against the house because she believed in him. Tane says he can’t lie to her for the rest of his life. Kahu begs Tane not to make him tell her.

Cash leaves Leah and Justin to get on with things. Esther tells Andrew he was only four when she last saw him. Andrew admits he doesn’t remember her. She says she tried to find him and they’re a family again. Andrew pulls away from her and hurries outside. Justin goes after him, leaving Leah and Esther looking upset.
