Extended Summary

John and Cash turn up at the garage where Theo is working. Theo snaps at John for sneaking up on him, then apologises. He says Ziggy’s finished the service and he’s doing the detailing. He mentions Bob’s back, which Cash identifies as Kirby’s ex. John says Theo shouldn’t be leaving Kirby alone with him and Theo quips that he can get someone else to detail John’s car, causing him to back down.

Back at Salt, Bob insists to Kirby that he loves her but Kirby thinks he doesn’t love her as much as he loves himself. Felicity asks if anything’s wrong and Kirby says they’re not ordering and she’s leaving. Felicity stops Bob following her.

Tane takes over from Nikau cooking dinner. Nikau is still determined to help out with the wedding. Tane says Nikau just needs to be best man but Nikau is determined. Tane agrees but tells him to stop being so intense, or else he’ll do the same when he’s Nikau’s best man. Nikau says he might not pick him. Tane says he doesn’t have a choice.

At the Diner, Marilyn serves Alf, who thanks her for getting Roo tutoring again and says it’s good to have her back to her old self. Roo arrives having just finished her first tutoring system with the new client. She says she set an alarm and ended the session when it went off. She notes it felt rude but it’s good to be helping people again.

Felicity asks Bob what he’s doing back, since he said Summer Bay was beneath him. Bob says he’s catching up on friends, including her. Felicity wonders what he’s getting at and he says he was hoping to crash with Kirby but needs to make other plans: He sold the van because he didn’t need it as a solo artist. Felicity is aghast at what he’s hinting. At the bar, John comments to Cash that he didn’t think Felicity was the marrying kind. Cash points out Bob with Felicity, and John thinks she’ll sort him out.

However, soon after, Felicity arrives back at the Parata house with Bob in tow and tells Tane and Nikau they’re having a guest. Tane takes her aside and Felicity apologises and agrees he’s a pain but he doesn’t have anywhere else. She says Kirby knows he’s in town and hopefully he’ll sort thing out with her and leave. Tane reluctantly agrees to one night  and Bob happily accepts some of his pasta.

Theo is on the phone to Justin at Lyrik’s house, saying they won’t be able to get a recording of the intro to the song and suggests he listen to the podcast. Kirby arrives home and Theo explains Eden let him in, asking if she’s been with Bob all this time. Kirby says she went for a walk after they spoke. She dodged Theo’s questions about what happened and, when he suggests getting a takeaway or watching a movie in bed, she asks if he could not stay the night so she can have some space. Theo agrees and leaves.

At Salt, John asks Cash if many of his family are coming to the wedding. Cash says they don’t have much extended family. There’s their foster father, Gary, but he doesn’t think he’ll be there. John says he’d be there if Jett was getting married. Cash says Gary would like to be there but Felicity never really accepted him, no matter how hard he tried, and hasn’t spoken to him since she left the farm. John suggests maybe she thought her foster parents were trying to replace her mum and dad.

Over at the Parata house, Bob quips that a church would catch alight if Felicity tried to say her vows in it. Felicity suggests Salt for the reception but Tane suggests a hangi at the house. Cash arrives back and Bob learns he lives there now. Felicity notes that Bob will have to make do with the couch. Nikau asks if Cash is okay handling transport and he insists he is. Nikau asks about the guest list and Felicity is evasive.

Next morning, Theo approaches the Lyrik house. He gets a phone call from Kirby, who is just standing a few yards away with her back to him. He hands her a coffee and she admits Bob wants her back. She thanks him for giving her space, saying it shows how much better than Bob he is. Bob comes out of the house across the road and sees them kissing, looking upset.

Inside, Tane and Felicity emerge from the bedroom as Cash is making breakfast and Felicity heads out the back for a swim. Cash asks if they’ve talked about inviting Gary to the wedding. Tane looks blank and Cash explains he was their foster dad. Tane knew there was one but they haven’t talked about him. Cash says it’s nothing to worry about.

Marilyn is clearing tables at the Diner and ducks into the kitchen when John enters. He follows her in and says he’s glad she’s safe home. He goes to leave but Marilyn asks him to stop and says he was the only one that trusted her and she’s sorry she never told him the truth while they were married. John says he’s sorry she couldn’t share it and leaves. Nikau comes in and orders four coffees, talking about wedding planning. He asks how she’s been since the city. Marilyn says she wanted to help people but pushed too hard, too fast. Nikau thanks her for helping his family, saying he thought the whole world was against him and she showed him it’s not true.

Kirby is working on a song in the back garden. Bob wanders up, explaining Felicity let him stay. Kirby says she’s with Theo and the band’s doing fine without him, so there’s no reason for him to be there. Bob says Theo won’t make her happy and Kirby says he already does and puts her first. Bob thinks that makes him a pushover. Kirby tells him to leave.

Marilyn finishes a phone call as Roo arrives. She explains it was Heather’s lawyer: She’s been declared unfit to stand trial and committed to a psychiatric hospital. She talks about how she can’t stop thinking about the kids at the food truck and she wants to help them somehow. She’s not sure on details but asks Roo to help her. Roo readily agrees.

Nikau joins Cash, Tane and Felicity with the coffees. He says the best time for the service is mid-morning. Felicity says that gives her time for drinking with her crew. Everyone looks at her and she adds hair and make-up. Cash asks about the guest list. Nikau agrees they need to sort it out for invites. Felicity asks why they can’t just send a group text. Everyone else looks aghast again and Nikau says Gemma would never forgive them. Cash asks about the Paratas’ family; Tane says they’d have to invite all the whanau and it depends how many can make it over from New Zealand. Nikau asks about the Newmans’ family and Felicity says it’s just her and Cash.

Bob is playing pool at the surf club. Theo comes in and Bob makes a sarcastic quip about his work outfit. Bob claims to have accepted that Kirby’s chosen Theo and challenges him to a game to “clear the air”, asking if he’s scared of losing. Meanwhile, Cash asks Felicity outright about asking Gary to the wedding. Felicity says she knows Cash got on with Gary but she never did. Cash says he’d love to be there and with Katherine gone they’re all he’s got left. Felicity says that having him there would be a painful reminder of who isn’t.

Theo misses a shot. Bob says he’s glad Kirby has someone to blow off steam with and thinks she and Theo are in the honeymoon phase. He says he and Kirby have broken up before, found rebounds and then realised they’re better off together. He pots a ball to make his point.
