Is Remi’s charm wearing off? Theo no longer wants to be Kirby’s secret. Bree makes a friend.
Extended Summary
Remi is busking outside the surf club again while Eden looks on. The crowd applaud him but when he asks them to drop a coin or number, they quickly disperse. Remi accused Eden of ruining the vibe. Seeing Dean and Mackenzie approaching, he tries to flirt with Mackenzie but she tells him to quit while he’s behind.
Back at the house, Kirby tells Theo it was just a dumb suggestion. Theo says he doesn’t want to have to make out with other girls just to be with her. Eden comes home and Kirby quickly distances herself from Theo and chats about Remi with her. Eden says she’s making food. Theo says they were going to the Diner but Kirby decides to stay and Theo leaves on his own, dejected.
At Salt, Justin asks Dean what he’s going to do while Ziggy’s away. Mackenzie thinks he’ll sit there and count the minutes again. Dean insists he can do whatever he wants now, although he is a bit vague as to what that is. He insists it will be fun but Justin and Mackenzie think he’ll be miserable before he gets downstairs.
Dean heads down to the board shop and finds Bree waiting for him: She was looking forward to a fun day off but dropped her board in the car park. Dean says he doesn’t really do repairs but will take a look. Remi comes in and he and Dean trade light-hearted insults. Remi introduces himself to Bree and invites her for a coffee. Bree laughs and says she’ll be back later. Remi tells Dean you have to play to win. After he’s gone, Dean looks morosely at the newspaper clipping of him and Ziggy.
Justin catches up with Theo near the beach and wonders how he is. Theo tells him about talking to Kirby and her weirding out when Eden came home. Justin tries to suggest kissing someone else every now and then isn’t too bad. Theo doesn’t want to use people to prove a point. Justin suggests he thinks about whether he and Kirby want the same thing.
Kirby sends Theo a text saying sorry about before. Eden tries to talk about Remi again but Kirby snaps at her for putting an empty milk carton back in the fridge. Remi comes home and he and Eden banter about their respective lack of action. Kirby tells them to shut up. Eden asks if it’s still about the milk. Kirby leaves.
Back at the Morgan house, Justin offers Theo lunch and apologises if he said something stupid. Theo worries that Justin’s right about Kirby wanting something different. Justin suggests they need to talk about what they both want. Meanwhile, Eden catches up with Kirby near the beach, saying she just came out for milk. She asks what’s up and Kirby says she’s fed up of having to be the together one all the time. She says you can’t just laugh some things off.
At the Diner, John asks Irene how she’s handling living alone again, saying she can come to him for company. Bree comes in and asks how Cash is doing. She is somewhat bemused when they suggest she could check on him at home. John offers to tell her all about it. Back at Lyrik’s house, Eden returns and tells Remi about what Kirby said. After a few moments’ serious reflection, Eden jokes that all the girls in the Bay are over Remi. Remi insists he could go out and pick up a girl if he wants, heading out to do that.
John is waxing lyrical to Bree about how the surf club is the heart of the community. He suggests Bree get involved in it to use up her time off. Irene quips about having John as her boss. John offers to give her the grand tour. He takes her to the surf club although she’s already seen the pool table, juice bar and Dean, who says her board won’t be fixed until tomorrow. Remi comes in and says he’s going upstairs for a beer. Dean says Bree’s not interested but Bree says doctors love beer and goes upstairs with Remi. John and Dean are bemused, although John says it’s good she’s making friends.
Relaxing over a beer, Remi comments that Bree didn’t like being referred to as a doctor. Bree says she doesn’t like people making assumptions about her and admits she did the same about Remi. He convinces her to shake hands. Dean comes in and asks Mackenzie what’s going on with the pair. Mackenzie says she doesn’t care. Eden comes in and is similarly bewildered.
Outside, Kirby meets with Theo and apologises for not going with him before, admitting that she lost her temper with Remi and Eden but if they knew, they’d be looking for new band mates. Kirby promises no more game playing, but when she sees Remi and Bree up on the balcony, she quickly lets go of his hands and says they have to go. Theo isn’t happy.
Bree asks Remi how he got into music and he tells her about his parents being in an orchestra. He asks if her parents are in medicine and she says her mum’s a cleaner and her dad digs ditches with the road gang. She suggests he’s a city boy and he says he travelled between lots of cities and recalls his parents playing under the northern lights in Iceland. Bree says the closest she got was fireworks in the back garden in Newcastle. Remi asks why she changed her mind about a drink and she says John taught her to be more open-minded.
Dean is settling down to a sandwich on his own at home. He gets a call from Ziggy and learns she came first in her heat, asking when the final is. Meanwhile, Kirby follows Theo to the Morgan house. He is unhappy that she doesn’t want to be seen with him in public and thinks they should tell Remi and Eden about them. Kirby thinks that would turn the band into an us and them situation. Theo says it sounds like she cares more about them than about the relationship.
Mackenzie comes downstairs from Salt laden down with rubbish, which Eden helps her with. Eden asks if Heather called her and Mackenzie says she didn’t. Remi and Bree come downstairs and he suggests they kick on. Bree says she’s not really the kicking on type but thanks him for lunch and shakes hands. Eden asks what sort of foreplay that was. Remi looks after Bree wistfully.
Theo and Kirby try to work out what to do. Theo says both their last relationships were complicated but Kirby says they’ve broken their promise. Theo says they should stop seeing each other, because he thinks he’s about to get hurt. Kirby kisses him on the cheek and apologises, leaving him alone.
