Extended Summary

Justin and Theo are playing a console game. Justin wins but Theo claims he let him win. Theo thinks they should get to bed and maybe tidy up, since his apprenticeship starts tomorrow and they don’t know when Leah will be back. Justin insists on a rematch and sends Theo to get the beers, starting while he’s gone. At Salt, Ziggy tells Dean that Theo being an apprentice will bring a different vibe but accepts Justin’s desire to help family. Roo and Marilyn arrive and Roo asks Dean about the crowdfunding for the Paratas. Dean says they raised over $10,000. Marilyn says she’d have contributed if she knew about it and also wants to order, saying the service is slow. Ziggy asks Dean why Salt is understaffed.

Tane and Mia arrive back at the house. Mia is bewildered that she’s been sleepwalking and Tane didn’t tell her. He says he didn’t want to stress her and she realises he’s been staying up to look after her. Nikau arrives, still insisting that Chloe took his taiaha. Mia defends her and Nikau yells that it belonged to his dad. Tane silences him and he leaves. Mia insists that Chloe wouldn’t be that cruel. Next morning, Ziggy runs into Roo outside the Diner and they discuss Martha and the fundraiser. Marilyn brings Roo a drink but Roo points out it’s tea and she has coffee. Marilyn replies that if Roo doesn’t like it she should make it herself.

At the garage, Theo is cleaning tools as noisily as possible while Justin struggles with a hangover. Ziggy arrives with coffee and asks Justin if she gets a pay rise, saying Leah won’t put up with his drinking. Ziggy gives Theo her old textbook, saying even though everything’s online now, it’ll bring him luck. Theo jokes that copies of her old assignments would be luck. Later, Ziggy is helping Theo fix an engine. Theo attempts to put the tool away in a cool manner but just drops it. Ziggy warns him not to call her babe and to look after the tools. Theo notices a call from Leah on Justin’s phone and covers it up. Justin puts Theo’s behaviour down to a delayed hangover.

Nikau tells Chloe he doesn’t care why she took the taiaha, he just wants it back. Chloe insists she didn’t take it and Mia asks why Nikau thinks so. Chloe thinks Nikau is punishing her for being friends with Bella. Mia interrupts the argument and walks out. Tane asks Nikau if he’s happy. Chloe follows Mia to down by the beach. Mia notes she and Ari used to come there and wonders if this is where she was trying to get to. She apologises for thinking Chloe was doing better than she was and wonders if she should talk to Nikau. Chloe says she’ll sort it and wonders about Mia’s sleepwalking. Mia hopes it will stop now she knows about it. They agree they both miss Ari.

Roo comes into the Diner and tries to talk to Marilyn about before. After they both talk over each other, Marilyn says they should move on from it. Chloe and Mia come in and Marilyn expresses her condolences over Ari, making pointed comments about not being told in time to pay her respects. She also offers her congraulations for Mia getting married and Mia says she’s the first person to do so. She then gets a call from Dean and heads round to the farm house, asking what he needed to tell her in person. Dean says he needs her account details to transfer $10,650, which should be enough to cover the funeral, the flights to New Zealand and a lot else. Mia is overwhelmed.

Nikau tells Tane he didn’t mean to upset Mia but continues to insist that Chloe’s to blame. Chloe comes home and tells them about Mia going to see Dean, before saying she doesn’t want to fight anymore. She goes to get her bathers and comes back with the taiaha, saying she found it in the bathroom. Nikau insists he left it in his bedroom, but Chloe tells him not to take his problems out on her. At the garage, Theo and Ziggy have finished fixing the car. Justin ends a phone call and tells them that Leah will be home this afternoon. Theo seems concerned. Justin says they’ll all go to Salt for a takeaway now.

Mia talks to Dean about Chloe, thanking him for looking after her. She tells him about her sleepwalking. Dean recalls how he wandered around at night after a bad reaction to medication but the fact it stopped when he threw the pills away doesn’t help. He suggests Chloe could lock her in her room. Mia thinks she’d enjoy that. Meanwhile, Tane asks Nikau if he’s not coping and Chloe claims to be worried about him. Nikau asks if Chloe’s going to call the taiaha a stick in front of Tane but, after a bit of prompting from Tane, apologises to her. Mia returns and tells them about the money. They’re all pleased and Tane says he’ll go pay the bills online.

Roo arrives back at the Diner and sees Marilyn flexing her hands before picking up some plates. However, she promptly drops them. Roo asks if she’s all right and Marilyn accuses Roo of making a big deal of it before hurrying out. Meanwhile, Justin, Ziggy and Theo are walking through a park area. Justin and Ziggy talk about how long it can take to sign off on skills but Theo doesn’t seem interested. Justin sends him on to get the burgers, then tells Ziggy about how Theo’s worried that when Leah gets back from Dimitri’s she’ll kick him out, which is why he gave him the apprenticeship.

Roo is walking back through the caravan park and stumbles across Marilyn rooting through a bin and muttering that something must be there. Roo asks what she’s doing and Marilyn unconvincingly claims nothing.
