Extended Summary

Jasmine is going for a run on the beach looking in a good mood, even jumping over a ball that two beachgoers are kicking about. She stops to take a phone call and is obviously excited by the news. At the garage, Justin tries to pass off his outburst to Ziggy as being stressed, giving her full details of Leah’s search for Susie including the forum, her road trip and now the crowdfunding. Ziggy suggests it might get the money back but Justin says he thinks she’s setting herself up for a fall, and with the wedding as well, it got on top of him. He notices he has three missed calls from Leah.

Leah is pleased to get a phone call from Justin assuring her he’s fine. She and Irene briefly discuss the PI. John overhears and is interested, although also surprised since he thought Leah was putting it on the backburner, saying he still has unanswered questions. Jasmine arrives and excitedly tells them her news: She’s got the job as nurse unit manager of Northern Districts ICU. Irene congratulates her. Meanwhile, Tori and Christian arrive home with Grace. Tori is annoyed that Christian’s suit still isn’t ready and asks if he’s calling her a bridezilla. He is saved from answering when Tori get a work text saying Jasmine’s resigned because she’s been promoted to intensive care. Christian says that’s good, then catches Tori’s glare and adds “or not.”

Roo catches up to Alf in the caravan park, saying he’s meant to be taking it easy and she can do whatever jobs there are. Alf says the toilet’s blocked and offers her the plunger. After a moment’s hesitation, Roo gamely accepts it and the gloves. Alf says he’ll do it but Roo insists. Back at the Morgan house, Tori tells Christian she’s annoyed Jasmine didn’t tell them herself. Jasmine arrives with the news but is deflated that they’ve already heard. Tori says she didn’t know Jasmine wanted to leave and Jasmine says she’ll still be at the same hospital. She realises Tori is upset and is even more deflated.

Justin has finished a job at the garage and is presenting a calmer face to Ziggy. Tane arrives to collect Ziggy and Justin asks her not to say anything to anyone. He gives her money for dinner, saying she can do the same when she has a meltdown. Tane notes he seems in a good mood but Ziggy looks concerned. Meanwhile, Roo has finished with the toilet and tells Alf he can’t keep doing three jobs. Alf tries to argue nothing’s changed but Roo says he doesn’t have Nikau to help, he’s sorting out the mess at the surf club and he’s visiting Martha. She wants him to advertise for help in the paper and online as well as at the Diner but Alf insists something will turn up.

Jasmine explains to Tori she was waiting until she got the job and Tori says she could have helped her with a reference. Justin comes through and retrieves his secret stash of pills from the drawer. Jasmine says she wanted to do it on her own and Tori says she likes helping her. Christian cuts in, saying they’re too close, Jasmine wanted to get away from Tori and Tori can’t handle her doing something on her own. Neither seem to agree with the assessment and instead worry about him. Later, Justin is at the Diner, watching Leah and John debate the cost of the private investigators. He isn’t happy when Leah suggests he go home and start on dinner, saying he wouldn’t have met her there if he’d known that was the plan. Leah asks Ziggy, who is at the counter with Tane, if Justin was in a bad mood at work and Ziggy awkwardly says he was fine. Justin decides to stay.

When Ziggy and Tane arrive home, he asks what was going on with Justin, and Ziggy tells him about Justin smashing the mug and his explanation for it. Ziggy isn’t convinced and both of them worry about him hiding it from Leah. Meanwhile, Tori tracks Christian down to Salt, noting it’s the only bar in town. She admits there may have been some truth in what he said but also worries about his mood. He assures her he still wants to get married. Tori explains she left Jasmine watching Grace until Leah and Justin got back and suggests a night out.

Leah announces the cavalry’s there and Jasmine quips that she’s already done the hard work getting Grace to sleep. Leah tells her to go out and celebrate the new job. Justin, seeming distracted, settles in front of the telly leaving Leah to handle dinner. At Salt, Jasmine arrives and finds Tori and Christian having a meal, good-naturedly noting that she and Tori were too worried about Christian to carry on arguing. Tori invites her to join them, saying now Jasmine’s in ICU she can complain about the ED to her, and Jasmine says she’ll wait until they’re a boring married couple before crashing their dates. Tori tells Christian she just wants the people she loves to be honest with her.

Tane finds Ziggy up in the middle of the night and she explains she’s worried about Justin, adding that at least it’s not Dean this time. She notes he could genuinely be stressed but Tane says if she thinks there’s something wrong there probably is, while Ziggy’s not happy he got her to lie. Tane offers to “distract” her. Next morning, Tori announces she’s going to pick up her dress and tells Christian to collect his suit. Christian says he has to do his rounds first in order to pay for the wedding. Leah invites Justin to join her in meeting John or maybe for a coffee and a walk but Justin says he’ll be busy packing. Justin waits until he’s alone, then retrieves the pack of pills from the top of the fridge before calling a doctor.

At the Diner, Irene comments to John that she thought he’d given up on Susie. John says he’s in a better headspace now he knows Stephen didn’t have that sort of relationship with her. Leah comes in and Tane encourages Ziggy to talk to her. Ziggy takes Leah outside, leaving John and Tane alone, and explains she’s worried about Justin. Near the bait shop, Irene brings Roo a double shot and comments on Roo helping out there on top of school work. Roo says there’s no-one else and admits she left Alf asleep. Alf appears in a fluster but Roo says she left a note and has sorted the delivery. She and Irene convince him to come into the Diner for a cup of tea.

Justin is having a rather desperate phone conversation with a doctor, saying he needs the prescription to get through his sister’s wedding, but gets nowhere. Leah arrives and says she knows he’s hiding something from her, asking what’s going on.
