Can Mackenzie keep her secret from Ari any longer? Lewis and Christian come to a head again.
Extended Summary
On the balcony at Salt, Mia is trying to convince Ari to go home and rest. They see Tane carrying Mackenzie out of the surf club, with Ziggy following on. Ari calls out, wondering what’s wrong. Mackenzie weakly says not to tell him and Tane simply calls back that he’ll talk to him later. Meanwhile, Lewis and Jasmine arrive at the Diner. Lewis thinks Christian has got away with it again, despite Jasmine pointing out he’s got a fine and a criminal record. She reminds Lewis that Christian has to face a medical tribunal but Lewis thinks they’ll let him off too. At the counter, Jasmine confirms to Irene that it didn’t go as Lewis expected and he won’t let it go.
Tori and Christian arrive home. Christian is furious at getting a criminal record, insisting he’s an excellent surgeon. Tori reminds him he did actually hit Lewis and needs to start the anger management. Christian protests that Lewis has been undermining him and is against the idea of taking time off. Tori is called into hospital and advises Lewis to go for a walk or swim to calm down. At the hospital, Tori joins Jasmine in treating Mackenzie, who says she had pain that got worse. Ziggy adds that she collapsed at work. Tori orders an ultrasound. Moving into the corridor, Tane wonders what he’s going to tell Ari, ignoring a call from him. Back at the Parata house, Ari tells Mia he’s thinking of going to Mackenzie’s place. Mia suggests he’s the last person she wants to see. Ari realises she knows something. Mia admits Mackenzie was pregnant and lost the baby.
Outside the Diner, Irene brings Alf a cup of coffee and they discuss the surf comp. Christian appears and they briefly chat to him about his troubles. Lewis appears and sarcastically notes Christian’s patients will survive if he’s there. He dares Christian to hit him again and, when Christian tries to walk away, pushes him in the back and goads him further. Alf turns the hose on them. At the hospital, Tori and Jasmine are bantering about a patient when Christian appears and tells them what happened with Lewis. Mackenzie is brought through and Tori announces there’s no internal bleeding, just a post-operation infection which can be cleared up with antibiotics and rest. Ziggy takes Tori aside and tells her she doesn’t think Mackenzie is coping with losing the baby.
Ari realises this is why Mia was talking about babies at the hospital. Mia says it wasn’t her place to tell him and she found out when she saw Mackenzie at the hospital while visiting him. She doesn’t know any more but says Dean, Ziggy and Tane were all there. Ari says he has to see her. At the hospital, Christian has got himself cleaned up and reluctantly agrees to see a counsellor. Tane and Ziggy are concerned when Ari and Mia turn up. Ari wants to see Mackenzie. Tane tries to stop him but Mia insists it’s his right so Tane tells him where she is. Tori is looking after Mackenzie and giving her information on grief counsellors when Ari comes through and tells her he knows. Mackenzie agrees to let him stay and tearfully tells him that she didn’t want him to feel like he had to be with her and then he had the accident and she wasn’t going to go through with it and then lost it. She says she felt empty and Ari comforts her.
Jasmine joins Alf and Irene outside the Diner; Lewis is sitting on his own nearby. Jasmine joins him and questions him about picking a fight. Lewis says he’s full of himself. Jasmine says no-one else sees Christian that way, including her, and the autopsies have cleared him. She worries that he’ll end up arrested or worse if he carries on. Once they’ve moved into the Diner, Lewis continues to be unhappy that no-one believes him. Jasmine suggests he see a psychologist or counsellor: Going after Christian is just making him feel worse and worse.
Mackenzie and Ari chat in a friendly manner before Tori arrives to discharge her. She checks Mackenzie doesn’t need a taxi and Mackenzie says Ziggy will drive her. They head out into the corridor but Mackenzie is clearly disappointed to see Mia there. Mia and Ari leave, with Ari telling Mackenzie to call him if she needs anything, and Ziggy tries to steer Mackenzie away. Mackenzie again looks withdrawn. Later, at the Parata house, Mia encourages Ari to go and see Mackenzie and take pizza, sensing he wants to. Ari says nothing could take away her pain. Mia is sorry that he has to go through this again.
Mackenzie, Ziggy and Tane arrive back at the farm house. Ziggy offers pasta or soup but Mackenzie wants to rest. Tane agrees it’s a good idea and Mackenzie sharply says she doesn’t need his approval. After Ziggy and Tane have gone to bed, Mackenzie coldly bins the grief counselling leaflets. At Salt, Jasmine tries to get Lewis to go to a movie with her but he isn’t listening. She suggests he come home with her, thinking it’s not a good idea for him to be alone, but Lewis says he needs some space.
Next morning, Tori is on the phone to the hospital, making arrangements for a patient, while also trying to look after Grace. Jasmine arrives and Tori says Christian got paged into the hospital. Jasmine wants to talk to Tori about Lewis. Tori is somewhat acid about how much he has it in for Christian but Jasmine says she’s not there to choose sides: She’s worried about him and thinks something’s wrong. At the hospital, Lewis unlocks a deserted part of the building and drags an unconscious Christian in…
