Extended Summary

Jasmine is running on the beach and encounters John, who asks if she found anyone to work at the gym. She says she didn’t and John tells her to run them by him first; she wryly agrees. John comments on the board shop still being closed and Dean not answering his phone. Jasmine gets a text alert that she’s been approved to visit Colby. Later, Ziggy is heading down for a surf when she runs into Dean coming the other way. He asks to talk and Ziggy agrees, with them putting their boards aside and heading down to the beach together. Tane watches them, unnoticed. Dean suggests that Ziggy’s the reason he’s not behind bars and asks if they can try again. Ziggy is reluctant but he asks her to at least think about it.

Kieran, Roo and Martha are having breakfast together with Kieran joking about having possums and kookaburras as neighbours. Martha teases him about leaving his crust. Alf comes home and doesn’t seem too happy to see Kieran there but Martha cuts him off. (He also reminds Kieran, who continued to call him Mr Stewart, to call him Alf, which he does.) Roo suggests giving Kieran a tour. Martha doesn’t seem too keen, suggesting Roo has work, but Kieran agrees. Soon after, they are walking along a secluded spot on the beach. Roo notes this is where she used to wag school. She asks Kieran about his job and he says he’s done everything from sales to carpet laying. Roo says she used to skip careers too and he’s got time. Kieran wants to stick around but, while he’s getting on with Martha, he’s not sure Alf wants him there. Roo suggests he can prove himself.

Jasmine arrives at the prison and Martinez checks her name off on a list. As she’s handing items over in reception, a young man, Lewis, comes in and he and Jasmine recognise each other. He initially jokes that he’s a crime boss (Jasmine notes their academic advisor said he’d never amount to anything) before explaining he’s working as an agency nurse in the infirmary. Jasmine says she’s visiting a friend and Lewis guesses it’s the first time when she doesn’t recognise a buzzer telling her to go through. He suggests they meet for a coffee later. Jasmine is shown through into the yard. Colby is surprised to see her and wonders if something’s happened. Jasmine says she just wanted to see him. Colby apologises for letting her down when he promised Robbo he’d look after her but Jasmine says he helped her through the hardest year of her life and she doesn’t need looking after any more.

Alf is sweeping leaves as Martha anxiously tries to text Roo. Alf can tell she’s worried and asks why she isn’t keen on Roo being alone with Kieran. Meanwhile, Roo shows Kieran into the surf club, gives him a list of the facilities and confirms Alf’s the president. John chimes in that he runs it and Roo introduces him as the manager. John realises Kieran is Alf’s step-son and notes news travels fast, especially when it involves scandal, before heading towards the office. Roo says that’s the curse of a small town. Kieran wonders if people know about his sobriety. Roo says her family’s discreet, but the town’s good at giving people second chances. She suggests they go up to Salt but Kieran recalls her saying there’s a bar there and needs to keep away from temptation. Roo says they’ll continue the tour.

Martha explains that Kieran’s father used to get violent when he was drunk. She got away from him in the end but Kieran had seen it all: He started drinking as well with the same results and used to hit her. She ended up calling the police on him when it got too bad. Alf is disgusted but Martha insists he’s a good kid deep down. She obviously regrets calling the police on him but Alf sees it as a sign that she was desperate and says normally he wouldn’t let someone like that in the house. Martha begs him to let Kieran stay. Meanwhile, Ziggy goes round to see Dean. She notes that ever since he told her about Colby and Ross, he’s been expecting her to get over it some time, but there’s no chance for them. She says she wants him to be happy but Dean tells her to go. She passes Bella, who tries to ask Dean if he’s okay but he goes into his room without a word.

Jasmine gives Colby an update on Dean and Bella before giving him the surf report, even though she has no idea what it means. She notes she’s glad that he still seems like the same person despite being in there. Martinez calls out to wrap it up and Jasmine says she’ll come again and bring cake from the Diner. She heads into reception where she runs into Lewis again. He gives her a soy flat white. Jasmine is impressed that he remembers how she has it, less so at the quality of prison coffee. Lewis knows she lives in Summer Bay, having checked with some mutual friends, and suggests they hang out.

Back at the caravan park house, Roo is chatting favourably about Kieran to Alf and Roo, telling them about him refusing to go in Salt. Alf awkwardly notes he’s glad they got on. At the surf club, Jasmine and Kieran discuss her working at Northern District. Kieran comes over, having been pointed in Jasmine’s direction by John, and asks about the job at the gym. Jasmine suggests he drop off a CV but Kieran says he works better in person and starts giving a speech about how he’s a great motivator with loads of experience and she should give him the job. Jasmine says she has other people to see but Kieran insists she won’t find anyone better. Lewis steps in, saying the job will still be there tomorrow, and he and Jasmine walk away. Kieran looks annoyed.

Bella is video calling Nikau, who is bemused that she’s in his room, wearing his hoodie. Bella says she just wanted to feel close to him. Nikau notes Gemma’s sorry that she couldn’t be there but understands. Bella asks him to talk to her until she falls asleep. At Salt, Lewis notices Jasmine’s wedding ring and says he thought he might have a second chance. Jasmine laughs, noting they had one date and he forgot about her as soon as he met Anna. Lewis reveals that Anna died in a car accident. Jasmine admits she lost her husband last year in a car accident as well. They drink a toast to the survivors.

Martha is looking pleased but Alf, standing behind her, looks worried. Kieran repeatedly punches a tree in anger. Colby tries to sleep in his cell. Bella is asleep with Nikau talking to her. Jasmine and Lewis continue their drink. Dean moves restlessly around the flat. Ziggy is at home, looking as though she doesn’t know what to do, and Tane pumps weights: Both of them seem to be having flashbacks to their night together.

Next morning, Colby comes out into the prison yard. Several prisoners move to block his exit and more appear in front of him. One of them asks if he thought he could get away with it, calling him Constable Thorne.
