Extended Summary
At the Diner, Irene and Marilyn watch John, who is apparently still using the app. Marilyn says she thought he’d have given up, but clams up when Irene tries to ask her why. She notes if she was still on the app she could keep an eye on him. Despite Irene’s warnings, Marilyn goes over and tries to distract John by claiming to see a pelican. John sees through it and confirms he’s still on the app. Marilyn goes back to Irene and says she’s worried that John doesn’t talk to anyone anymore. Later, Irene goes over to John’s table and discusses him having trouble finding anyone. She suggests one of the ladies, Brenda, but John says she doesn’t like the beach. He tells Irene about his date not turning up and worries that she saw him and got out of there. He thinks he’d mess it up even if he did get a date. Irene has an idea to repair his ego.
Tori asks Christian how long he’s been thinking about moving to the Bay. Christian says it’s been a while: He’d consolidate his visiting rights, then move to Northern Districts full-time and find somewhere to live. Tori says he could go anywhere and Christian replies that so could she. Leah comes home and wonders if Justin’s back. They assume he’s reading Ziggy the riot act. Tori decides she and Christian should go for a walk and asks Leah to look after Grace. Meanwhile, Ziggy pulls up near the surf club and marches over to Tane, sarcastically thanking him for getting her into trouble. Tane says he told Justin it was his fault. Ziggy says Justin wondered why she covered for him and she doesn’t know either. She drives off.
Tori and Christian are standing on the pier. Christian notes he thought Tori would be pleased. He admits Summer Bay’s different to what he’s used to but says in all his travelling around, he never thought about staying somewhere until he met her. Tori is overwhelmed at the idea of him giving up his troubles to settle down with her. Christian says that’s what he wants – having dinner together and watching TV with her crying over adverts with puppies – and she makes him happy. That evening, Irene and John arrive at Salt, dressed up in their finest. John is a bit awkward, worrying that someone might see them and think they’re on a date. Irene says people can think what they like and there’s nothing wrong with a meal and good company. John agrees and relaxes.
Tane goes round to see Ziggy and says he wanted to let Justin know it was his fault. Ziggy is unimpressed, saying she let him use the garage and didn’t go to the police, and that she convinced Justin he could trust her and to hire Tane. She accepts he’s sorry but tells him to leave. At the Morgan house, Justin has filled in Leah and thinks Ziggy did it for a “tall, dark and damaged” reason. Leah points out Ziggy’s been good up until now but Justin points out she put the garage at risk. Tori and Christian come back and Justin offers Christian a beer. Tori asks Leah to go with her to get a takeaway. Leah says she can just make something. Christian translates: Tori wants to have a woman to woman chat about him. After the pair leave, Grace starts crying and Justin and Christian joke about the women staging a coup.
Walking near the Diner, Leah wonders why Tori has a problem with Christian moving there. Tori worries that he’ll find Summer Bay boring, plus she works long hours and Grace has to be her priority. Leah thinks Christian knows all that. Tori worries that he’ll leave them one day. Leah accepts it’s hard to let someone in, especially as a single mum, but is in favour. Tori asks how things are going with Justin and Leah notes she’s bought his favourite dessert with cream. Later, Justin is strumming his guitar at home. Leah notices Christian looking at Tori and tells Justin to come outside and serenade her in the moonlight. Christian asks Tori if she and Leah decided anything. Tori is worried about ruining what they’ve got but Christian assures her he finds the idea of a life with her and Grace exciting. They kiss.
John and Irene laugh as they reminisce about John drinking Ryder’s disgusting smoothies at the charity event. Alf comes over and wonders why John’s dressed up. Irene tells him not to let his pizza get cold. John offers to pay the bill, to Irene’s amusement, and they agree they’ve both had a good night. John admits he wants to feel a real connection with someone. Irene doesn’t think you can get that through a screen but John wonders what to do if that’s how it’s done these days. Nearby, Ziggy finds Tane on the balcony. He offers to leave but Ziggy says she knows he was trying to help. She explains Justin rightly had a go at her and got her back up by suggesting she was into Tane. Soon after, they are at the Parata house in a passionate clinch. Tane confirms they have the place to themselves and they go to the bedroom. Ziggy says to wait, then says nothing’s wrong. They lie down on the bed and kiss some more.
In their bedroom, Justin tells Leah he’s not going to sack Ziggy but wants to keep an eye on her. They rejoin Tori and Christian, who say they have an announcement to make. Justin jokes that Tori’s pregnant. Tori says Christian’s going to be a local. Justin says they’ll have to buy him a surfboard and asks about the scans. Christian says they can do them tomorrow. Next morning, Tane wakes up alone. He searches the house but there’s no sign of Ziggy… who at that moment is arriving home. She gets a text from Tane asking if she’s okay but ignores it: She looks somewhat shell-shocked.
