Extended Summary

Dean and Xander have just finished a surf lesson. Xander notes Dean and Ziggy always made it look easy and they discuss her wanting to get back out there. Stacey is running a class nearby. She comes over and kisses Xander, prompting Dean to go for a shower. Stacey asks if he’s free for dinner. Xander makes a sarcastic comment about fitting him into her busy schedule before saying he was just joking. He says Rose has a night shift so suggests Stacey come over to his. Meanwhile, Ziggy arrives at the garage just as Kirby is driving off, telling an apologetic Theo not to take things out on her. Theo tells Ziggy he’s stuffed up, explaining about the assignment due at 9am tomorrow.

Nikau and Stacey literally bump into each other at the surf club, with him coming out of the office and her out of the gym. She says she has a date which Nikau guesses is with Xander. She asks when she should ask Tane for a day off or a rise and he advises her to make sure he never runs out of protein packs.

At the Diner, Justin is aghast that the fundraiser is a golf tournament. Alf says if it was him, it’d be a fishing tournament. Leah guesses that Justin was hoping for a karaoke event so he could wow everyone with his guitar. Justin suggests a concert at Salt (Leah thinks a fundraiser at Salt would bring back memories) or outdoors, but eventually agrees Alf can put him down as a sponsor. Leah teasingly says he can play the guitar for her at home.

Ziggy looks over Theo’s assignment, saying he got it ages ago and should have been working on it. Theo says he’s been distracted with Kirby and the band. Ziggy says to come to her if he needs help. She looks over what he’s done and immediately criticises the opening. Later, Dean turns up with pizza. Ziggy explains that the part has come but she’s having to pull an all-nighter with Theo to do the assignment. Dean protests she’s pregnant and needs her sleep. Ziggy assures him her coffee is decaf and stops him having a go at Theo, saying it’s up to her to tell him off. Dean refuses to go without her and settles in a corner. Theo goes to take the pizza but Ziggy tells him to get back to the laptop.

Xander is lighting candles for a meal. Stacey turns up with lime, mint, sugar and rum: The ingredients for mojitos. Looking at the table, Stacey is surprised by how much effort he’s gone to, since she thought they’d just get takeaway. Xander is happy to cook for her. Stacey reminds him what she said and he replies that being non-monogamous doesn’t mean you can’t have good food.

Mackenzie serves Leah and Justin on the balcony at Salt and thanks Justin for the acoustic gig the other day, saying the debt’s paid off. Justin offers to play in the future, even if it’s on his own and midweek. Mackenzie beats a hasty retreat and Leah helps Justin realise he shouldn’t be poaching gigs from the band he manages. Kirby appears; Leah notes they’ve seen her at breakfast and dinner and asks where Theo is. Kirby says he was at the garage last time she saw him and declines an offer to join them.

Next morning, Xander gets up and calls out for Stacey but finds a note from her saying “Thanks for last night, had an early start”. Down on the beach, Nikau finds Stacey packing up after a class and offers to help. Stacey says it’s part of her job but Nikau convinces her to let him give her a lift on the buggy, with her admitting she’s hungover. Justin runs into Kirby nearby and assumes Theo was with her last night, since he didn’t come home. Kirby says she doesn’t know where he is and admits they had a fight.

Theo submits his assignment with five minutes to go before the deadline. Dean has been dozing in a chair and warns him not to do it again. Theo feels like falling asleep but Ziggy says if she can’t nap, neither can he. Theo gets a text from Justin asking where he is and also notes he has to make things up with Kirby. Dean and Ziggy head home where Ziggy collapses onto the sofa, saying she can’t believe she used to party all night. They explain to Mackenzie what happened. Mackenzie notes the pair referring to the baby as Grommet, saying they’ll have to think of a real name soon. Dean asks when she’s moving out, but both he and Ziggy look worried when she comments on leaving everything to the last minute.

Leah serves Theo a double shot at the Diner and he notes he’ll need another one straight after. Leah suggests he go home but he says he’s meeting Kirby, explaining about taking his stress out on her. Kirby turns up, asking where he’s been. Theo explains about doing the assignment and asks to talk. Kirby agrees but says not here, walking out and leaving him to follow her.

Xander finds Stacey at the gym and says he was hoping to have breakfast together. Stacey says she had an early shift and he was fast asleep when she left. Xander suggests they do lunch but Stacey says she already has a date planned. Xander says maybe another time as Stacey goes to chat to a client, Sarah.

Ziggy refuses to have a nap, wanting to power through. Mackenzie interjects that Grommet rhymes with vomit. Dean recalls that Jai was named after Amber’s brother. Mackenzie interrupts to say they can name the child after her, whether it’s a boy or a girl, and call them Mackenzie Junior or MJ…but they’re never to call her Mack Senior. After she’s gone, Dean assures Ziggy that that wasn’t his idea, suggesting Bex instead. Ziggy likes it until he says it was a girl he used to know, saying they’re not going to name the baby after someone he slept with. Dean gets the point when she suggests naming the baby Brody.

Nikau is collecting a takeaway from Salt and briefly chats to Xander. Stacey comes in and chats to Nikau, explaining to Xander about him giving her a lift. Xander asks if she’s meeting her date there. Stacey says her date’s cancelled, so she can see him after all. Xander stays quiet as she chats about doing a class while hungover, prompting her to ask if he’s bothered about her having another date. She says the important thing is she’s with him at the moment.

Kirby is making a sandwich at Lyrik’s house while Theo watches. He asks when she’s going to talk to him, because he’s about to pass out. Kirby accuses him of acting like Bob, saying she tried to remind him to do the assignment, he procrastinated all day and he took it out on her. Theo agrees you shouldn’t do that to someone you love, then they both realise what he said. Kirby asks if he’s just saying that to get her to forgive him but he promises that he loves her. They kiss and Kirby says she loves him too.

At the farm house, Ziggy is bewildered at Dean suggesting Hendrix, saying she kept having to convince people Ziggy was her real name. Dean says at least she knows it’s her when people call her name out. They reject Lola (Dean’s idea) and Sage (Ziggy’s). Dean suggests Zoe and Ziggy agrees that Zoe Astoni sounds good. Thrown, Dean asks if she means Zoe Thompson. Equally thrown, Ziggy says no.

Nikau runs into Stacey at the gym and says he’s looking for Tane but Stacey says she hasn’t seen him since she came back from lunch. She suggests she and Nikau go out for a drink some time. Nikau is rather bewildered at her asking him out on a date. Stacey says to let her know. Nikau goes round to see Xander and asks if he and Stacey are dating. Xander says it’s complicated and Nikau explains about her asking him out.
