HOSPITAL
Flynn and Sally watch their baby in the incubator, unable to believe that it has finally happened. They discuss naming her, and Sally has a “very special” name in mind

In another room, a depressed-looking Leah rubs her stomach. Colleen arrives, grinning, to offer her congratulations. She appears to be either naive or totally stupid as she offers “the new Mum” some flowers and a bear for her baby. As we try to establish where Colleen has been for the last seven-ish months, Leah reminds her that she ought to be congratulating Sally and Flynn – they’re the new parents. Colleen, seemingly surprised that Leah has given ‘her’ baby up – despite that having being the plan from day one – proclaims her “very brave”, and after leaving the flowers she takes off in search of Sally and Flynn.

Sally and Flynn walk down a hospital corridor, talking about “the right time” for something and that they “need to know one way or another”. We’re left to wonder as Colleen finds them to congratulate the real parents, giving them the bear – now officially the baby’s first teddy. Colleen wonders what she should call “the little angel”, and Flynn and Sally mysteriously skirt around the name, simply telling Colleen that they’ve chosen something “very special”, but they’re not 100% so she must keep it under her hat. Colleen gives a knowing “oooooh, I’m sure that ‘someone’ will be very honoured indeed” to let us all know that she has yanked hold of the wrong end of the stick, before greeting Kane strangely kindly and making her way off down the corridor.

Kane is on his way to visit Kirsty, and offers his congratulations to Flynn and Sally – they must be wrapped. Kirsty doesn’t know yet, though, as no one really thought it appropriate to ‘break the news’, especially after everything that has happened. Kane reassures them that Kirsty will be really happy for them

Kane enters Kirsty’s room, bringing with him some girlie mags – “you should have seen the looks I got when I went to pay for them!”. He remarks upon her smile – her first since her new kidney, and she comments that she’s feeling ‘kinda’ better. She enquires about the baby she heard crying (presumably the hospital is either the smallest on earth or it was quiet enough for her to hear all the way to maternity), and Kane tells her it was a baby girl. She seems to know without being told that it was Sally and Flynn’s child, and mentions that they didn’t have to keep it low key – she’s happy for them. However, it has got her thinking, and things seem “less over” than they did before the transplant in terms of the miscarriage. It’s sinking in that their baby has gone.

Flynn and Sally pay Leah a visit to give her a progress report – the baby is healthy and beautiful. Flynn then approaches the topic of feeding their child – breast milk is best, but it all comes down to what Leah is comfortable with. Leah agrees to express milk, but feels unable to actually feed her, and Sally and Flynn just want to make things as easy on her as possible. Leah breaks the tense silence that follows by asking about Jesse, who left after the birth. They talk about the break up, and Leah assures Sally that it had nothing to do with she and Flynn.

In Kirsty’s room, she and Kane lie together on the bed. Kane expresse his happiness at having found a donor, and that the transplant went well – that’s all that matters. He assures her that he knows how she is feeling – he will ALWAYS think about their baby, and how close he came to losing her, and understand that she will need some time to get over things.

DINER
Finally we change location, joining Sally and Flynn as they break their good news to Irene, Alf and Kim, and a slip of the tongue informs them that Sally and Flynn have chosen the name Pippa. Irene and Alf are delighted – it’s a “ripper of an idea” and Pippa (snr) will be chuffed. Duncan swaggers through, and is prompted by Alf to congratulate Flynn and Sally – he does so almost genuinely. As Sally and Flynn leave, Alf goes to enquire about Duncan’s change of attitude. Duncan is scarily upbeat about life.

BEACH HOUSE
Tasha returns home to a dark and empty house, and when she goes up to her room she works out that someone has been there. Whoever it is has left her a note… and has also taken her gun… and presumably the letter bearing her father’s name as well.

DINER
Duncan wafts a dirty dish in Kim’s face, making the common error of mistaking Kim for a dishwasher. Tasha storms in to scream at him, wondering how he knew about her letter. Duncan informs her that he eavedropped on Irene and Alf, and as she demands her possessions back he wonders why she had a gun in the first place. He has already put two and two together to make five and come to the conclusion that she is going to kill her Dad. Kim wanders out of the kitchen to check up on Tasha, who insists that she is ok. Once he is out of hearing, they continue, with Tasha insisting that he has got it all wrong – she doesn’t want to shoot anyone, she just wants it back. Duncan remarks that it’s a shame… she could be famous, given who her father is. He hasn’t yet told anyone and she is desperate to keep him quiet and he is willing to discuss terms…

THE PALACE
Sally and Flynn have arrived to see Jesse, and he is pleased to know that the baby is fine – he was worried as it came so early. When the subject of Leah raises its ugly head, Jesse too is quick to assure them that it’s not their fault. However, they all seem to agree that it was a shhame for Jesse to have gone to all the birthing classes only not to be present at the actual birth. Sally is surprised and curious as to how and why the break up occured, but Jesse isn’t keen to talk about it. All he can do is tell Sally that it’s more complicated than being simply about the surrogacy, and announce that it’ll get less complicated every day until one day it won’t be complicated at all. They toast the new baby girl.

BREAK

DINER
It seems that Duncan wants some of Tasha’s not-so-well-earned cash, but he insists that it can’t look like he’s forcing it out of her. He ‘suggests’ that she return home and start being generous with her cash, so it won’t look so suss when she gets to him. Duncan goes for a word with Alf, telling his Dad that he recognises he has done some cruel stuff to people in the Bay. Alf scoffs at the understatement of the year, and although he points out that Duncan wanting to make amends won’t excuse it, Duncan convinces Alf that he’s genuine. He casually mentions that he wants to go to New York, and receives the expected response from Alf – he won’t be paying. Duncan asks hypothetically what would happen if he already had the money – would Alf give his permission? Alf dismisses the question on grounds of impossibility.

BEACH HOUSE
Tasha counts her cash in the middle of the lounge, much to Irene’s distress – seeing all that money lying around is giving her ‘the horrors’. She once again suggests that Tasha take it to the bank for safe-keeping, but Tasha rejects the idea. Again. However, she has decided to give the money away to the people who she thinks deserve it – as worthy a cause as it is, Irene begs her to put the money aside for her future. Her plea falls on deaf ears as Tasha corners Kane as he walks through the door. She reckons Kane and Kirsty should go on holiday, after all the strife they have been through recently, and she gives him $1000 to fund it. Kane, just slightly overwhelmed, tells her that he could never pay it back, but she’s not asking him to. Irene intervenes to try and talk some sense into Tasha, but Tasha is determined that Kane take her cash and is equally determined that the bank won’t get its fingers on it. She presses the wad of notes into Kane’s hand and returns to her room, leaving Kane with his hand outstreched, not quite sure what to do as Irene looks set to hit the roof.

BEACH
As the sun rises, Jesse runs up the beach. He falls back into the sand briefly, staring upwards thoughtfully, before pulling himself up and resuming his run.

HOSPITAL
We return one more to the hospital, where Jesse is paying Leah a visit, complete with some food in case the hospital food isn’t up to standard. He wonders where his flowers have got to, and she informs him that she gave them to a girl who hadn’t had any visitors. Sweet as the gesture was, Jesse isn’t impressed, but she coldly informs him that she doesn’t want him acting like everything is alright. She is already breaking up inside over having to give the baby away, and it’s taking all her strength to fight the urge to run down the corridor and claim the child as her own. She just doesn’t have anything left to try and make him feel better about desrting her, and tells him to back off – she needs space. He agrees to do as she wishes, and departs.

FLYNN’S PLACE
Sally is preparing for work, slightly dismayed that she isn’t allowed to sit at the hospital all day and stare at her child – she gets to stare at Yr10 instead. Colleen waltzes in with her trademark “Yoo-hoo only me!”, and is surprised to see Sally back at work so soon – Sally can only onform her that her maternity leave doesn’t actually start for another couple of months. In normal circumstances it would be fine, but due to the slightly ab-normal baby-making issues, she must remain at school, especially as she is covering Hyde’s absence herself. They then ask Colleen if she would mind acting as both a receptionist and a babysitter, and despite being overwhelmed at first, she is “honoured to look after little Colleen”. Oops. Flynn and Sally tentatively break it to her that they will be naming the child Pippa. Colleen’s face swiftly falls, before realising that Pippa, not she, was the “special person” that Sally and Flynn were referring to. She puts a brave face on it as she leaves, announcing that Pippa would be the second-best, and giving her blessing.

DINER
Kim tells Robbie about Tasha’s antics with Duncan the previous night – particularly the “worse than usual” smug look on Duncan’s face. He recommends that Robbie talk to Tasha about it – after all, she’s his girlfriend. On cue, Tasha arrives and swiftly gives Robbie the brush off in favour of asking Alf where Duncan is. Alf goes to get Duncan for her, and Robbie takes the opportunity to pull Tasha up on her blossoming friendship with Duncan. He and Kim want to know what Duncan is up to, but Duncan arrives. He and Tasha sidle away together as Kim calls out to Tasha not to do whatever Duncan wants. Duncan casually reminds Tasha that he’s the one with the gun – and something could happen to Kim, if he keeps up the insults. Tasha tells Kim to keep out of it, and she and Duncan take a seat. They decide to wait until Kim and Robbie leave until they commence their plan.

Later, Robbie and Kim are leaving and Tasha declines to go with them. The minute they’re out of sight, Duncan rather vocally refuses to let Tasha do something, and she is equally vocal in insisting that he accept her offer. Alf eventually comes over to find out what’s going on, and is informed by his wayward son that Tasha has offered him the money to go to New York – and she won’t take no for an answer. Alf refuses to let him go, but the way Duncan see things, all he needs is a seat on the plane. Besides, Alf should be happy to get Duncan out of his hair for good.
