Extended Summary

Irene serves Xander and Rose at the Diner. Rose asks to join Xander in his surf lesson. Xander’s refusal is cut off when Mali comes in and Rose rushes to greet him. Irene asks how long that’s been going on. Mali, who has just returned from a trip home, tells Rose that Elandra hasn’t ratted him out to his mum. Rose points out she’ll notice eventually. They make plans to meet at the surf club after Xander’s surf lesson. Up in the flat, Bree still refuses to talk to Remi. Remi asks what’s happened, since she seemed happy after the gig. He explains his hope that seeing him play would make her feel less guilty. Bree snaps that it’s not up to him to fix her and yells at him to get out.

Mackenzie serves Gabe a rather disgusting looking but presumably healthy drink at Salt and asks when they’re going to the hospital. Gabe says there’s no need to go with him, since it’s only a routine blood test prior to the chemo. Mackenzie tries to insist but Gabe says it’s a marathon, not a sprint, and he’ll need her later. He asks for pizza and takes a reluctant sip of his drink.

At the farm house, Ziggy gets off the phone to Maggie, saying she wants regular photo updates of Izzy and will probably arrange a trip to Italy. For the moment, Ziggy assures Dean that Ben and Maggie are fine with Mackenzie taking over the lease on the farm and with Dean’s plan for the board shop. Now they have to tell Justin and Mackenzie.

Mackenzie is delighted to receive a visit from Ziggy and Izzy at Salt. Ziggy reminds her that Izzy can’t eat or drink anything there but Mackenzie says she has a new high chair picked out for her. Ziggy tells Mackenzie and Gabe about Amber and Jai moving to Queensland. Gabe heads off to the hospital and Mackenzie tells Ziggy about him starting treatment soon. Ziggy looks a bit uncomfortable as Mackenzie dotes on Izzy. Downstairs, Xander and Mali return from the surf lesson and greet Rose. Dean comes over and asks to talk to Mali, saying he has an offer for him.

Xander and Rose arrive back at the flat, still debating the surf lessons, and find Bree looking upset. Xander excuses himself so the two women can talk. Bree explains that she’s pregnant and doesn’t know if Remi or Jacob is the father. She is terrified at the thought of Remi finding out what happened between her and Jacob and doesn’t want to tell him. Rose reminds her that the baby might be his but Bree doesn’t think it is: She and Remi were always careful.

Dean explains to Mali about his plan to move to Queensland and says he wants Mali to take over the board shop. Mali protests that he doesn’t have any money to put in but Dean says he’s not asking Mali to buy it: He wants to give it to him. Dean heads up to Salt to greet Ziggy and Mackenzie. He starts to tell Mackenzie about the moving plan but Ziggy stops him. Once Mackenzie is out of earshot, Ziggy explains that she doesn’t think Mackenzie is in the right frame of mind with worrying about Gabe.

Mali puts the board shop sign up outside and looks at it proudly. Xander comes past and finds Remi, asking him if he knows what’s going on with Bree. Remi has no idea but needs to know. Back at the flat, Rose asks Bree what she’s going to do. Bree wonders if she means about the pregnancy or about telling Remi and says she’s still thinking about it. Remi turns up and Rose leaves him and Bree alone. Bree says she wants to be straight with him but doesn’t know where to start.

At the Diner, Irene tries chatting to Rose about her new relationship. Mali turns up and says Dean’s giving him the board shop. Irene cuts in and Mali explains about Dean and Ziggy moving to Queensland, asking her to keep it quiet for now. Irene recalls that Ben gave Dean the board shop in the first place. Mali says it’s a sign he’s meant to be there. Upstairs, Bree tells a flabbergasted Remi that it’s too hard to be around him. Remi tries to protest but Bree says no more visits or calls: She can’t just be his friend so she’s choosing to be nothing.

At the farm house, Dean gets off the phone to Amber and tells Ziggy that they need to move to Queensland tomorrow: Amber has to go a week early for training and will be leaving Jai with a babysitter otherwise. However, this means they have to tell Mackenzie now. Dean goes to the surf club and meets up with Mali, who says he’s happy to take the board shop on. Mackenzie comes down and Dean asks to talk to her. Mackenzie is panicking about not having heard from Gabe.

Dean takes Mackenzie up to Salt, where she snaps at a loitering staff member. Gabe turns up at that moment and Dean leaves them to it. Gabe says he wanted to give her the good news in person: He’s been given the go-ahead to start chemo straightaway. Mackenzie admits she’s scared of not being strong enough to support him. At the farm house, Ziggy is extolling the virtues of Queensland to Izzy, including seeing Jai and Coco. Dean arrives back and admits he didn’t tell Mackenzie and doesn’t think they can leave tomorrow: He can’t leave Mackenzie at the moment.

Xander and Rose arrive at the surf club with Rose denying being on a date with Mali. Mali greets them and Xander congratulates him on getting the board shop. Mali admits he hasn’t told Elandra yet. He sends them on ahead to Salt, saying he has something to sort out. Back at the farm house, Ziggy tries to insist to Dean that they can’t change their plans. Dean says Mackenzie needs someone around for her. Ziggy asks what he’s going to tell Jai. Dean says he can fly up and visit, and checks she hasn’t told Justin yet. Mali arrives and asks to talk to Dean, before asking Dean if he’s having second thoughts…
