Extended Summary

Justin approaches Logan by the coffee cart and asks how he is. They talk about the fact that someone died in the crash and Logan apologises about the car Justin lent him. He sees Cash and asks if there’s any news. All Cash can say is that they know neither driver was drinking. Down on the beach, Chloe tells Theo she was worried about someone coming home, mainly Nik. Theo asks about what she wrote in the journal and she says she was keen to spend time with Bella but has now pushed her away too. Theo says he’s not going anywhere and jokingly asks what she wrote about him.

Mackenzie is trying to tell Dean and Ziggy that she can trick PK since he doesn’t know she knows she was scammed. Dean wants to involve the River Boys but Ziggy is against it and thinks they should concentrate on getting Salt out of debt. Dean suggests asking Logan for help but Mackenzie is worried about him asking questions. She then gets a text from him and all three of them go to meet him at Salt. Mackenzie claims they went for an early morning surf. Logan says he can’t remember hearing her come in and they chat about the crash. Dean excuses himself to go open the board shop. Mackenzie offers Logan a big breakfast before he goes to work.

At the Diner, Leah suggests Marilyn take some extra shifts while Irene is away (she has gone to visit Fin). Marilyn suggests Chloe might like some as well but Leah says she’s not responding to texts. Theo and Chloe then come in. Theo chats with Justin and Marilyn about how tense things are for Chloe at home. Later, Chloe is serving Cash and asks if he wants anything else. Cash suggests a muffin but she doesn’t seem to hear so Marilyn serves him instead. Chloe gets a text from Theo saying he has a surprise for her, with Leah and Marilyn hurrying her out. Cash gets a phone call.

Mackenzie apologises to Logan for not being there to look after him recently. Logan says he knows she’s been busy at Salt. He thinks she needs a break and suggests they go away for the weekend. Mackenzie tearfully says she can’t and rushes out. Ziggy goes after her, catching up to her outside, and asks if there’s something she isn’t telling her. Mackenzie says she didn’t sleep with PK but did let him kiss her, saying she loves Logan too much to have gone further. She realises what she just said and notes she’s only just realised she loves him and has already ruined it.

Back inside the surf club, Ziggy tries to convince Mackenzie to be honest with Logan, pointing out he could hear about it from someone else. Mackenzie leaves and Dean asks Ziggy if Mackenzie’s all right. Meanwhile, Theo leads a blindfolded Chloe down the beach. She says she’s already seen the whole town. Theo takes off the blindfold and shows her a covered picnic area he’s set up.

Mackenzie arrives at the hospital and sees Logan helping a patient. She asks to talk to him and he agrees to take a break. As they walk on the beach, Mackenzie eventually admits that she has debts and it goes beyond the car repayments he helped with. Logan offers to help out but Mackenzie says that’s not what she wants and she just wanted to be honest. She says she loves him and he reciprocates. They hug and kiss.

Dean and Ziggy see Mackenzie return to the surf club. She initially tries to avoid them before explaining she told Logan she was in debt but turned down his offer of money. Dean is exasperated. Mackenzie says PK nearly got her to cheat on her boyfriend and she’s disgusted with herself: She can’t ask for help from Logan after that. She walks away, leaving Dean and Ziggy unsure what to do. Back on the beach, Theo tells Chloe that when he didn’t feel safe at home, he used to go away for a night. He grabs a guitar, saying it’s Justin’s but he taught himself to play. He strums and sings “Back to Life”.

Cash turns up at the hospital and asks to speak to Logan in private. Logan leads him to his office. Meanwhile, Leah and Justin are carrying supplies to the coffee cart. Justin says he got a text from Theo saying not to expect him back. Leah says it’s nice to see him being thoughtful and romantic, recalling when they were like that. Justin protests they still are and wonders if she’s giving him a hint. Leah says if he was a romantic, he wouldn’t need one. After a long and confused pause, Justin asks again.

Cash asks Logan what he remembers about the crash. Logan recalls turning a corner, clipping a car he’d only just seen and not having time to hit the brakes. Cash asks if he knows how fast he was going, saying the evidence suggests he was speeding. Logan asks if the accident was his fault and Cash says it’s starting to look that way.
