Extended Summary

Tane and Felicity are messing about on the beach, with Felicity stealing Tane’s towel, but the mood quickly becomes frosty as Dean and Ziggy approach. Dean asks about Mia and says he tried to get Chloe to go and see her. Tane is abrupt in response and they leave. Felicity tries to get Tane to focus on her. Dean showers near the surf club and protests he wasn’t having a go. Ziggy says the history between him and Tane complicates things. She points out she still hasn’t claimed her prize of a trip to Hunter Valley. Justin appears and Ziggy momentarily worries he wants her to work. Justin says he’s at a loose end with Leah and Theo away. Ziggy asks if Theo sorted things with Dimitri and Justin says not exactly.

Logan tries to get Mackenzie to talk to him. Ryder arrives and Mackenzie makes out he’s late in order to get out of the conversation, before saying she needs his help. Logan presses and Mackenzie claims she’s planning a surprise for him. Logan heads downstairs and asks Dean if there’s anything about Mackenzie that he doesn’t know. He mentions paying some car repayments for her. Dean tries to convince him he’s reading too much into it.

Felicity brings Tane breakfast that she’s made into a smiley face. Tane admits Dean meant well but still could have done without it. Felicity is anticipating a day off together but then Tane gets a call from Mia, saying Chloe’s reached out to her and she needs him to cover at the gym. Felicity is fine with it but drags him off to her van first. Meanwhile, Roo meets with Marilyn outside the house. Marilyn explains she was supporting Chloe. Roo suggests she and Marilyn meditate together to find Marilyn’s sense of purpose. When she suggests ocean swimming, hang gliding or rock climbing instead, Marilyn gives in.

At Salt, Justin has filled Ziggy in on the situation with Theo. He is feeling bad about how he acted when Theo first turned up but Ziggy tells him he gave Theo a home and job. Ryder suggests he and Mackenzie have a code for when Logan’s around. Mackenzie says to just not mention illegal gambling or her debts when Logan’s within 5K. Ryder reminds her she has to get Logan a surprise. Dean comes in and comments Mackenzie said she wouldn’t accept money from Logan. Mackenzie says he didn’t give her a choice. She gives Dean a wad of cash and drags Ryder off to the caravan park, although Ryder thinks it will just give Dean more questions. They knock on Felicity’s van and she answers it in her underwear, protesting that she’s entertaining. Tane leaves past her to go to work and Felicity stops Ryder entering, saying to give her time to get changed.

Justin finishes a phone call with Leah and tells Ziggy that Theo’s brighter now. Ziggy says she’d want him on her side if she was in trouble. Dean shows Ziggy the money he got from Mackenzie, wondering where she got it from. Outside the caravan park house, Roo is directing Marilyn’s breathing but Marilyn is fidgeting. Roo says she looked up what to do online but Marilyn retorts that she’s been doing it for thirty years. She says the experience has made her realise that you can’t help everyone and sometimes you have to let them fix their own problems. Apparently missing the subtext, Roo is pleased the experienced helped her. She answers a call from Alf.

Ryder and Mackenzie are telling Felicity their plan to have another event and expand it. Felicity isn’t keen, saying that having another one so soon will cause the events to lose their exclusivity and closing Salt raises too many questions. Mackenzie says she’s the one taking the risk but Felicity doesn’t change her mind. At Salt, Logan asks Dean and Ziggy where Mackenzie is and gets slightly flustered answers. Mackenzie and Ryder arrive back. Logan tries to quiz Mackenzie (and Dean comments on the unlikelihood of Ryder being involved in the surprise), before Ryder and Mackenzie disappear to do a stock check.

Marilyn rejoins Roo near the house and Roo explains Alf and Martha are coming home. She is worried about saying the wrong thing to Martha and upsetting her. Marilyn says she’s had trouble with that and Roo needs to rephrase what she wants to say before talking. Back at Salt, Logan and Dean try to question Ryder, who hurries away. Mackenzie admits to Ziggy that she needs to come up with a surprise for Logan. Ziggy reveals Dean told her about Mackenzie’s money troubles…although she was unaware that Logan had paid her car fees until she says. Ziggy realises she may actually be able to help out. She discovers Ryder’s notebook with his casino ideas which Ryder quickly retrieves.

Felicity arrives at the gym with a snack for Tane and tells him what Mackenzie was after. Tane is in favour of another event. Felicity isn’t sure she’ll be able to get the people together and tells him in confidence that Mackenzie has financial troubles. Tane says it could be fun. Meanwhile, Dean accosts Ryder outside and asks what’s going on with Mackenzie, threatening to put him in the recycle bin if he doesn’t give an answer. Ryder says Mackenzie’s planning themed events, hence the private function.

Mackenzie thanks Ziggy for her help and gives Logan a beer, telling him she’s confirmed his surprise: A romantic break to the Hunter Valley. Dean and Ryder come back in and Ryder tells Mackenzie she’s told Dean about the event nights. When Mackenzie starts talking to Logan about the trip, Dean shoots Ziggy a puzzled look. Meanwhile, Felicity texts Mackenzie to say they’re on. She suggests she and Tane go for cocktails in Yabbie Creek. Tane is keen until he gets a call from Mia saying something’s happened with Chloe. Felicity tells him to go to her but doesn’t look too happy.
