Extended Summary

Down on the beach, Mackenzie and Logan come back from a swim. They comment on Mackenzie’s new stress-free outlook before Logan notes Mackenzie’s working tonight. Mackenzie asks if he’d like to have dinner with her, explaining she’s got Ryder to cover. Meanwhile, Leah and Dimitri exit the surf club. Leah asks what happened. Dimitri says Theo’s out of control but Leah doesn’t think this matches the Theo she knows. Dimitri says he should have come down hard on him. Inside, Justin tries to get Theo to tell him why he lost it at Dimitri and John also encourages him to talk. Theo walks out with Justin following.

At the Parata house, Bella gives Nikau a hug, saying she’s all his until lunchtime tomorrow. He comments they have the place to themselves until six and Bella says they can go to hers after that since Dean and Ziggy are going to be out. Bella gets a call from Chloe. Nikau says to take it but Bella rejects the call, saying Chloe’s at work and probably just wanted a chat during her break. At the Diner, Chloe leaves Bella a message saying she needs to talk to her. Leah and Dimitri enter and she gets him an ice pack. Dimitri says he’ll head back to the motel. Leah tells Chloe about Theo punching him and she looks concerned.

Justin, Leah and Theo arrive back at the Morgan house. They are still questioning Theo about what happened. Theo says he was upset about Chloe, explaining they slept together but she was just using him. Leah isn’t keen on him blaming other people. Theo disappears into his room and Justin tells Leah he thinks there’s more to it. Later, John calls round and asks Justin and Leah if Theo has said anything about what it was like at home, concluding that there’s something they need to know.

Mackenzie and Logan arrive at Salt. Ryder asks to talk to Mackenzie but she says she’s there as a customer, not his boss. Ryder eventually takes her aside and suggests they have a roulette wheel at the next poker night. Mackenzie says they’re not having another one and doesn’t want him talking about it in front of Logan anyway. Later, Logan and Mackenzie are eating on the balcony and Ryder passes Mackenzie a note that simply says “Blackjack”. Mackenzie goes to talk to him in private and reluctantly agrees to discuss his ideas tomorrow.

John has filled Justin and Leah in. Leah is shocked, saying she thought she knew Dimitri. Theo enters. John tells him he did what he thought was right and leaves them to it. Theo says John shouldn’t have told them but Leah and Justin assure him they believe him and they’re on his side: They know him. Leah wonders why Cassandra didn’t stop it. Theo says every time she stood up for him, it made it worse for both of them. Justin realises it was Dimitri who beat Theo up when he said there were thugs after his car. Meanwhile, Marilyn greets Bella and Nikau at the Diner and shows them to a table outside. Chloe is wiping a table and is sullen about Bella ignoring her. She says Theo made her feel like dirt and Bella wasn’t there when she needed her. Bella is bewildered but snaps that Chloe doesn’t get to talk to her like that and she has a life too.

Leah and Justin are retiring to bed, noting neither they nor Theo will get much sleep. Justin says Theo’s safe now. Leah feels bad for not noticing anything wrong when she was at Dimitri and Cassandra’s. Next morning, Leah finds Dimitri near the beach. Dimitri comments on his black eye, recalling he got one when they played footie in the back yard against Chris and Alex. Leah says Theo told them everything: The injuries he had to explain away at school, the cracked ribs and concussion. Dimitri says he’s exaggerating and he just disciplined Theo like their dad did them. Leah says this isn’t discipline but abuse. Dimitri walks away.

At the farm house, Nikau and Bella are settling down for breakfast, with Nikau wondering why he’s doing all the work when it’s Bella’s house. Chloe suddenly appears with a large cake to say sorry. Bella accepts it but, when Chloe assumes she’s going to stay and help them eat it, Bella says she still needs space and Chloe’s been using her to avoid dealing with Mia. At the Diner, Marilyn chats to Leah about Theo. Leah tells her not to waste sympathy on Dimitri. Chloe arrives and asks after Theo. Leah tells her Theo doesn’t need her messing him around. Marilyn settles Chloe down, saying whatever the problem is it can be fixed. Chloe phones Mia.

Leah tells Justin and Theo that Dimitri wouldn’t admit to doing anything wrong. Theo says he wants to go and see Cassandra in the city, asking for time off work. Leah says that she’ll go with him. Later, Justin meets up with John at the surf club. John hopes Theo will forgive him for telling his secret. Justin says they’ll find out when he gets back. They wonder how Theo will move on when Dimitri won’t admit to doing anything wrong.

Outside, Ryder is telling Mackenzie that she got enough money to pay off the suppliers and the next week’s wages and another four nights will get them out of the black, especially if they expand things. Mackenzie cautiously agrees but before they can arrange a date, Logan arrives. Mackenzie says they’ll talk more when Ryder has his shift. Later, at Salt, Mackenzie asks Logan what his work schedule is so she can arrange her shifts around it. Logan notes she’s never done that before and asks what’s really going on.
