Extended Summary

Logan is using a jet ski out in the water. Christian and Mackenzie watch from the shore and Mackenzie asks about his proposal. Logan pulls up and Christian and he recognise each other, explaining to Mackenzie that they worked together with Doctors Without Borders. Mackenzie heads off to work, while Christian gets an alert that a patient has woken up. Logan decides to go in with him. Meanwhile, Bella and Ari are sat by Nikau’s bedside. Ari says the doctor has said there’s no change. Bella thanks her for sticking up for him with Tane, noting she thought Ari would take his side. She notes she was hard on Nik and Ari says they all were. Nikau wakes up and both Bella and a nurse try to calm him.

Presumably some time later, the same nurse is doing checks on Dean. He tries to talk to Ziggy but she immediately bails, ignoring him calling after her. Meanwhile, Ari and Bella are waiting outside Nikau’s room. Christian and Logan appear. Ari confirms that Nikau is awake. Christian introduces Ari and Logan to each other. Ari thanks Logan for saving his family. Christian, Logan and Ari go in but Bella chooses to stay outside. Christian does checks on Nikau, who is able to remember his name and the fact he was in a car crash and Logan was there. He becomes agitated as he remembers Mia and Dean were there as well. Ari assures him they’re okay.

Tane is packing up after a class on the headland. He gets a call from Ari but ignores it. Mackenzie appears and they briefly chat about Nikau. Tane refuses to talk. Meanwhile, Christian and Logan order some scans before leaving Ari alone with Nikau. Nikau apologises for running off and getting Mia to come and pick him up, while Ari apologises for pushing Nikau out of the house. Ari explains Mia’s at home while Dean will be in hospital for a while. Nikau notes that he kept thinking about the baby when he saw Mia trapped in the car. Ari looks away for a moment before admitting that they lost the baby.

Logan goes to see Dean, noticing Jai’s drawings. He looks at Dean’s notes and tells him that he’s looking at a lot of rehab and it could be weeks before he’s out of there. Meanwhile, Nikau worries that Mia and Chloe will hate him but Ari assures him that’s not the case. Christian appears with Bella, and Ari leaves the two youngsters alone.

Mackenzie brings Tane a bottle of water, saying getting drunk led to him turning up on her doorstep. Ari turns up and asks why Tane didn’t answer his phone, explaining that Nikau’s awake and seems good physically. Back at the hospital, Bella apologises to Nikau, saying she nearly lost him and forgives him and loves him. Nikau pulls away from her and tells her to get out.

Mackenzie joins Dean and Logan. Dean is bemused that she seems happier to see Logan than him. Mackenzie tells him to make sure she stays pleased that Logan saved him and Dean wonders if she’s cracking onto his doctor. Dean tells her that Ziggy told him about breaking up with Tane. Mackenzie says it wasn’t her place to tell. Dean agrees that he wants to get back together. Meanwhile, Ziggy is walking on the beach, having flashbacks to her and Dean getting together, him telling her he was all-in, their break-up, their encounter at the exhibition and her telling him she forgave him. That evening, Mackenzie is heading back to the Diner flat and sees Bella standing alone on the pier. Mackenzie goes over and Bella cries on her shoulder.

Tane is sitting with Nikau, who turns down an offer of food and says he just needs some sleep. Tane says he’ll stay with him until he falls asleep. Elsewhere in the hospital, Ziggy goes to see Dean and tells him that she thought she’d lost him for good. She notes she never expected to be the person who cheated, but when they were together at the exhibition, neither really fitting in, it felt right. She says she loves and forgives him and she’s all-in, kissing him. Tane walks past and sees them.

Next morning, Tane is banging about in the kitchen. Ari comes through and says that Mia’s sleeping. Tane refuses to talk. Seeing Tane packing, Ari thinks he’s running off but Tane says he’s just taking a change of clothes because he doesn’t know where he’ll end up. Soon after, Tane runs into Ziggy near the surf club. He pours scorn on all her talk of honesty, saying it seems to be do as she says, not as she does. Ziggy says she thought they could have a mature conversation about it but Tane tells her to go back to her boyfriend.
