Summer Bay is in turmoil in the wake of Matilda’s abduction. Ric goes to violent lengths to get rid of Callan for good.

Extended Summary

Peter turns up at the scene where Matilda’s bag was found. Beth is beside herself with worry and Scott checks the surrounding area. Meanwhile, Callan is rushed into hospital with the injuries Ric gave him. Flynn is shocked by Ric’s behaviour, but Ric thinks Callan deserved everything he got.

Cassie’s at the Surf club having a drink when Alf comes in with Martha and Ric in tow. Alf’s getting a few guys organised for the search. Jesse wants to be part of the team. Alf’s not keen but begrudgingly needs his help. Ric tries to explain to Beth he was only trying to protect Matilda, but Beth dismisses him.

Flynn asks Callan if he knows where he is and what happened? Callan is a bit blurry for a moment but then it all comes flooding back – it was Ric! He beat me! He wants Flynn to call the police. Flynn tries to calm him down but Callan insists on pressing charges!

Alf works with Jesse to organise the search area they need to cover – the SES is working alongside the police. Ric comes over and tells Alf he wants to go, but Alf knocks the idea on the head. He’s not trained. Ric argues, but Alf is firm – sorry mate. Alf mans the radios and Beth makes herself useful – organising coffees and biscuits. Cassie can see how deeply affected Ric’s been by all of this; he’s defensive and angry. Meanwhile, Flynn finally picks up the phone to call the police. It’s the hardest phone call he has ever had to make…when, Nurse Julie approaches he’ll never believe what they found in Callan’s clothing…

Henry opens up to Beth about the psychic connection between twins, but the thing is, he can’t feel anything – and it scares him. Henry’s words almost kill Beth but she stays strong and does her best to comfort him. Peter arrives – looking exhausted after the search. He reports that someone at the party saw Matilda get into a car. Beth’s face falls – has she been abducted?

Cassie makes Beth realise just how naughty Matilda has been, how she’s been heading for trouble for a while and how Ric has been trying to stop her. Beth starts to realise just how much she’s lost touch as a mother. Meanwhile, Ric goes to the hospital and tells Callan if he sees him again, he’ll kill him! Terrified, Callan’s left shaking.

The police arrive at the hospital and Flynn holds up a small vial of liquid (Rohypnol). It seems Callan was not the innocent victim in this situation after all… But when they open the door to Callan’s room, they discover Callan is no longer there… He’s done a runner!

Alf is on the radio to Scott. They’ve searched about half way up Turner’s lane but so far have found nothing. Alf reckons it’s time they took a break and let another team take over, but Scott refuses. Then they spot something in the distance. They all run towards it… but Scott stops with a halt as he looks down at the grim discovery…

Beth’s heartened that they’ve found something, but when Peter pulls out the jacket they found in the bush, it’s got blood on it. Beth confirms that it is her daughters but is horrified at the sight of the blood. Scott and Robbie do their best to support her but Beth simply turns and walks out… On the beach, her legs virtually buckle from under her. Has she lost her daughter forever?
