Extended Summary

Following the mysterious phone call, Jack is really worked up – angry as well as taken aback. He wonders how he managed to find them so quickly – and why won’t he leave him the hell alone?! We see the Holdens as a strong unit as Tony and Lucas support Jack one hundred per cent. Jack doesn’t think there’s any point settling in Summer Bay – they’re just going to end up having to leave once the truth comes out anyway – just like the last two towns they’ve been in!!!

Kim is searching the internet for further traces of his mum when he receives an email! Instantly buoyed he clicks it open – Dear Kim, Yes, I knew your mother years ago. Contact me via the below number. Yours, Tom Anderson… Kim is thrilled – is this be the break he’s been waiting for?

From across the street in his car, a man is watching the house! Home alone, Jack gets ready for work. Then, without warning – smash! Jack races into the living area to see a brick has come smashing through the window. What the…! Jack races from the house… but he’s only in time to see a car speeding off!

Ric and Matilda see Lucas being picked on by the school bully, Jason. They rush over to intervene, but by the time they get there Lucas has got Jason’s arm bent up behind his back in self defence. Jason moves off, his tail between his legs and Ric and the others are impressed. Meanwhile, Tony gets a frantic call from Jack! He races home to check Jack’s okay. Tony reckons they should call the police, but Jack says the last thing he needs is the cops at work finding out! Meanwhile, at the Surf Club, Beth opens her mail. One of the letters she pulls out is a newspaper article with a note attached. “How do you feel living next door to a murderer?” The article features a picture of Jack! Beth shows it to Scott, Alf and Irene – stunned looks all around – Is Jack a murderer?

Kim and Hayley are stunned to discover Tom’s phone number is for a Correctional Facility! As the guard leads Tom Anderson out to meet Kim, we see hesitation and trepidation on his face. Kim wants Tom to cut to the chase – how did he know his mother? Tom reveals they had an affair when her marriage to Hyde was on the rocks. They had talked about running away together but Tom never thought Kerry was serious about it. Then, one day… she was gone. No goodbyes, no nothing. It broke Tom’s heart and he’s never really got over it. In fact, it’s the reason why he’s in prison – when he ran out of funds he was caught trying to embezzle cash to continue the search. Tom pulls a tatty old photo from his pocket – it’s of a toddler and a small baby. He tells Kim the baby is him and the toddler – that’s Jonathan. ‘You’re mother was never the same after he died’. Kim’s shocked to discover he had a brother – why hasn’t Hyde told him about this?

Tony tells Beth what the letter is about. When Jack was fresh out of the academy, an armed Robber pulled his gun on him. In self defense, Jack had no choice but to shoot. Unfortunately, it was a seventeen year old girl and despite the fact Jack has been cleared of any wrong-doing – her father has made their life hell ever since her death. Jack reckons they should just cut their losses and move again, but Tony firmly disagrees – as do Beth and Scott – the secret’s safe with them. Lucas emerges from his room and turns the radio on. A talk-back style announcer informs residents that controversial copper, Jack Holden, has started work in Summer Bay. So much for the secret being safe!
