Extended Summary

Jo and Bree run into each other on the beach after a swim and surf respectively. Jo says Bree seems better, saying she heard her and Levi arguing the other day. Bree thinks that means she’s hospital gossip and Jo assures her she isn’t. She offers to share a drink with Bree and let her vent about her ex. Bree says they’re actually back together and Jo attempts to congratulate her before leaving. Bree immediately runs into Remi, who suggests they have lunch together. Bree agrees, saying she’ll meet him after a shower and change. At the Parata house, Cash asks Tane how he’d feel if he’s right about Jo. Tane gets him to pick up Archie. Eden turns up and Cash says he sucks at babysitting. Eden coos over Archie.

Marilyn stops by Irene and Justin’s table to check how everything was. Irene jokingly tells her not to expect a big tip. Justin sees Leah looking sad and follows her into the kitchen. Leah notes things are moving fast and she’s been running the Diner with Irene for twenty years. Meanwhile, Bree joins Remi at Salt. Remi says he’s ordered coffees and suggests they share a pizza. Bree says she had a big breakfast. Struggling for conversation, Remi says he spoke to Kirby about her tour. The coffees arrive and they feel awkward when they touch hands while reaching for the sugar.

Justin suggests Leah put off going to the bank but Leah wants to get everything into place for Irene. Irene comes to the counter and Leah refuses to let her pay, saying she’s still part owner. John comes in and Irene says she’ll buy him a muffin. She struggles to decide which one and he says blueberry but he sometimes has white chocolate and raspberry. Irene says they know, so he doesn’t need to cover anymore. She also reveals she’s handing the Diner over to Leah. John wonders when that happened.

At the surf club, Tane runs into Cash and Eden and tells Eden that Cash insisted on babysitting. He adds that Archie is back with Harper, who found the milk incident quite funny. Jo comes in and Cash and Eden leave Tane to talk to her. Tane asks Jo about her reason for joining the gym. Jo eventually says it’s a good way to make new friends, noting she’s just put a co-worker offside and her sister still isn’t talking to her (Tane adds that her dad’s a cop). Tane says she’s made one now.

Irene and John walk through a park area. Irene says having memory lapses at work is stressful and it’s only going to get worse. John says she going from working 40-50 hours a week to none at all and she should be adapting. Irene says she’s unreliable and doesn’t want to put pressure on people to keep an eye on her, insisting she’s being honest with herself.

At Salt, Cash suggests Eden grab them a table. She passes Remi and Bree, who are sitting in awkward silence. Remi goes to order a coffee and asks Cash how he managed to sort things with Eden. Cash says he didn’t cheat on her and there’s no easy solution. Remi isn’t happy. Cash joins Eden on the balcony and assures her that his babysitting hasn’t made him clucky, saying he knows she doesn’t want children and is fine with that.

Jo and Tane are walking by the beach. Jo talks about moving out of the family home and how all the memories are there. Tane says he and his brothers brought reminders over from New Zealand with them. Jo shows him her mother’s eternity ring, which she wears on a chain around her neck, saying she lost her two years ago. Tane says his brothers passed too.

Cash and Eden arrive back at the Parata house. Eden wonders why he assumed she doesn’t want children without them ever discussing it. She says she wouldn’t have agreed to marry him if she wasn’t prepared to have children in the future. Cash kisses her gratefully. Eden checks that they mean the distant future and Cash says she can’t take it back now.

Remi and Bree arrive back at the Lyrik house. Remi offers her a tea or a glass of red. Bree wonders if she should go. When Remi agrees, she thinks he doesn’t want her to stay and he says he’s trying not to force things. He wonders what he has to do to get back to where they were. Meanwhile, John returns to the Diner and chats to Leah, moments before Irene turns up. Irene tells Leah to cancel the bank; she’s going to gift her her share of the Diner. Leah says she’s not going to accept that and John says it makes no financial sense. He says they don’t know what the next year or decade will look like and she has to prepare for it.

Tane and Jo’s walk has taken them near the surf club and she thanks him for today. After they’ve parted, Cash approaches Tane and teases him. Tane tries to convince him they were just talking about the terms and conditions of gym membership. Meanwhile, Remi gets Bree a glass of wine. Bree says if she knew how to fix it she would, and she doesn’t like the way Remi expects her to get over it. Eden interrupts and Bree takes the opportunity to leave. Eden stops Remi going after her, saying she needs space, so Remi asks Eden to check on her.

Eden catches up with Bree and insists she’s not going to report back to Remi. Bree says both she and Remi want things to go back to how they were but every time she touches him, she wonders if he touched Avalon like that and doesn’t know how to stop feeling that way. Eden suggests it will happens when it happens.

John is telling Irene that Leah will be all right financially. Justin comes in and Leah hopes John can talk her round. John tells Irene that her children will benefit from the money. Irene says she respects his judgement. She goes over to Leah and Justin and says they’ll go back to her selling her share of the Diner. Leah checks it’s at full market rate. Irene looks to John for confirmation before agreeing.

Remi is on the phone to Eden, wanting to know what Bree said, and says he’ll come see at work. Bree turns up and says she hates the disconnect between them. She starts kissing him desperately. Remi balks when she starts undressing him and saying they should go to the bedroom and get it over with. He stops her, saying it doesn’t work like this.
