Marilyn confesses her true feelings. Sonny slips up. Will Irene’s walls ever come back down?
Extended Summary
Sonny meets up with Theo on the beach. Theo immediately rejects whatever Sonny is suggesting, saying they’ve been out for the last three nights. Sonny agrees Theo is looking rough and suggests they have breakfast together. Theo correctly guesses he’s going to pay for it with Remi’s card, which Theo still isn’t comfortable with, but agrees to meet him after a shower.
Up at the surf club, Justin is reluctant to take Kirby up on her offer to be manager. She reminds him he did it with Lyrik but he says they had an existing fan base and set list, whilst this is a “really talented” blank page and he isn’t Forrest. Kirby convinces him to think about it. Sonny comes in as Justin leaves and Kirby tells him that his advice has convinced her to go solo again. He suggests she join him and Theo but she points out she still has a day job.
Irene comes downstairs where Dana is on the phone to Harper, discussing her wedding dress. She explains to Irene that Harper has found too many. Irene suggests Dana might find a new man at the wedding, then wonders if that’s too soon. Dana says Irene’s the only person she wants to dance with. Marilyn turns up with food and asks Irene about her schedule. Irene says she’s about to go on a power walk. Marilyn asks her to swap it out for an impromptu tea and talk.
Later, Marilyn has filled Irene and Dana in on everything that’s happened with Eliza, including her stealing the ultrasound photo and glassing someone. Irene comments on the latter being a reaction to something in her past. Marilyn agrees Jett was troubled when he came to stay with them but says she has a bad feeling about Eliza that Roo’s turning a blind eye to. Dana advises her not to ignore her gut. Irene suddenly cuts the conversation short to go on her scheduled power walk.
Kirby is practising a new song on her keyboard when Bree and Remi come back from their trip. Remi says Bree’s mum loves him but also asked about the fact he doesn’t have a job. He says it’s inspired him to apply for session work again and he starts that night. Kirby asks to talk to him about something. At Salt, Sonny and Theo have finished off their meal. Theo insists on paying, even though he’s spending all his money on the car at the moment. Sonny offers to help out with the work. A young man, Gage, listens in to their conversation. After Theo has gone, Gage asks Sonny if they’re mechanics and says he’s looking for people interested in making money. He writes his name and number on the back of a beer mat and hands it to Sonny, revealing a Blood and Sand tattoo as he does so.
Kirby has explained her plans to Remi and Bree. Remi is understanding and says there’s no Lyrik anymore. Kirby reflects on wanting Justin to be her manager and says she knows someone who can convince him. Sonny turns up with beers but Remi explains he’s off to do session work and suggests Sonny could do work. Sonny calls him a trust fund kid who’s had everything handed to him. Remi says the joke’s getting old but Sonny says he’s just stating facts.
Later, Kirby has called Theo over to fill him in and asks if he can convince Justin to manage her. Remi prepares to set off for his session work and Sonny convinces Bree to stick around. Theo messages Justin asking him to meet them at Salt, although the others aren’t too keen on the idea of ambushing him.
Irene is going for her power walk accompanied by Dana, who wonders if Irene is going faster. Irene says she doesn’t want to miss a day. Dana comments on the wedding and Irene points out she’s never actually said she’s going, indicating Dana is wrong to think she is. Later, the two of them are back at the house. Dana wonders if they should invite Marilyn over, feeling she wanted to talk more earlier. She gets a text from Harper with a picture of the wedding dres she’s chosen but Irene declines to see it. Dana wonders why Irene isn’t going to the wedding and Irene says she doesn’t want to upset her schedule.
Theo and Kirby are waiting for Justin at Salt. Theo notes that if Justin does take up the manager’s job, he might get extra shifts. Justin turns up and is surprised to see Kirby, then realises it’s an ambush. Theo suggests it could be a fresh start. Kirby says her lyrics meant something to Justin. Justin agrees to take the job.
Sonny asks Bree how going to her mum’s was. Bree says the build-up was worse and Sonny says it was the same with his grandma’s anniversary. Bree says she was glad Remi was there and Sonny says he doesn’t want to talk about him. Bree comments that there’s an obvious friendship between him and Remi but notes she can understand how it seems unfair when someone has everything handed to them. Sonny kisses her but she immediately pulls back and asks what he’s doing.
Justin, Theo and Kirby are out on the balcony. Kirby is hoping to get into a studio and record her songs: She doesn’t have enough for an album but is hoping for an EP. Justin notes that would be costly and Kirby says she could get the figures from Remi. Theo suggests Kirby ask Remi for the money. Kirby isn’t keen, reminding Theo he didn’t want to accept, and wonders if she should get a bank loan. Justin suggests going to Remi first and offering to pay him back, then going to a bank if he says no.
Bree is refusing to talk to Sonny who says he misread the vibe and wasn’t thinking. Bree asks how he could do it to Remi and wonders what she’s going to tell him. Sonny tries to get her to keep quiet. Remi arrives then, his session work having finished early, and asks what’s going on. Bree asks if Sonny’s going to tell him or she is.
Irene comes downstairs finishing off a phone call from Marilyn and tells Dana she’s going to catch up with her tomorrow for a walk. Dana gets a text and Irene realises it’s Harper sending another photo of the wedding dress. Dana reminds her she didn’t want to talk about the wedding. Irene says it’s the alcohol: The thought of sitting there trying to act normal while people drink around her terrifies her. Dana offers to support her and suggests going back to work might make her feel more normal. Irene agrees to give it a go.
Remi is packing Sonny’s bag while Sonny tries to protest they’re friends. Remi says Sonny turned up because he smelt money and has been using him ever since. Sonny wonders where he’s going to go but Remi says he doesn’t care and shoves him out the door. Bree says she’s sorry. Remi says Sonny’s the one that should apologise.
Next morning, Justin finds Kirby outside the surf club. She says Remi was asleep when she got in and she had an early lesson but he’s on his way now. Justin leaves as Remi appears, clearly in a grumpy mood. He says Sonny’s not staying with them anymore and explains about him making a move on Bree. Kirby takes him for coffee and Remi notes at least he’s got one friend who doesn’t want anything from him.
Not too far away, Remi finds Sonny asleep in his car. Sonny says he and Remi had a misunderstanding and he threw him out. He produces Remi’s credit card, suggesting they get breakfast.
