Sonny gets cut off. Theo spots something spectacular. Kirby calls in a big favour.
Extended Summary
Cash and Eden approach the surf club and Eden offers him breakfast on the house. Rose chimes in that police officers aren’t meant to accept favours. Cash notes he hasn’t received word of the promotion yet. Rose is surprised, since it’s her last shift tomorrow. Cash worries they’ll bring in a senior constable from another station.
Shortly after, up in Salt, Cash and Eden hear from Remi and Kirby about Sonny being kicked out. Kirby has to fill them in that Sonny made a move on Bree. Remi is more bothered about the betrayal than about the money but Eden and Kirby tell him Sonny’s spent thousands in Salt shouting other people drinks and advise him to do something about it.
Sonny tries to pay by card at the Diner but gets it declined. Theo ends up stepping in to pay. Sonny offers to pay him back. Theo wonders what happened between Sonny and Remi. Sonny tries to pass it off as Remi’s overreacting to an incident. Theo wonders if he broke his guitar and Sonny admits to trying to kiss Bree.
The two of them go round to the Lyrik house but Remi shuts the conversation down as soon as he sees Sonny. Theo tries to play peacemaker. Sonny returns the cancelled card and says he’s sorry he went overboard with the money but Remi isn’t bothered about that. Theo and Sonny exit the house and Sonny concludes he needs to find money to pay Remi back. He finds Gage’s number.
Irene and Dana arrive at the coffee cart with Dana babbling about the wedding. Irene realises she’s trying to take her mind off things. Rose comes over and says it’s good to have Irene back. Dana and Rose briefly discuss Rose not going to the wedding and agree to spend time together before Rose leaves. Dana offers to leave but Irene asks her to stay.
Theo and Sonny arrive at the address Gage gave them, which consists of a barbed wire fence and CCTV surrounding a few shacks and a lot of cars. Gage lets them in; Sonny does the introductions and Theo notices Gage’s Blood and Sand tattoo. Gage offers to show them around. Meanwhile, Cash is saying goodbye to Eden at Salt and continues to worry someone else has got the job. Eden wonders what he’ll do if they have. Cash doesn’t want to move stations again so says he’ll go back to grunt work and coffee runs.
At the compound, Theo and Sonny notice River Boys stripping a car for parts. Gage claims it’s a factory dud. Theo notices cars that have been modified and wonders if it’s for street racing. Gage coyly says that’s illgal and what they don’t know won’t hurt them. Sonny says that’s basically his life motto. Gage tries to show them inside but Theo’s attention is drawn to a young woman, Lacey, and her car, which he recognises as a Falcon XY. He guesses it’s a 1972; Lacey says 1971 and they engage in flirty banter for a few moments before Sonny calls Theo over to join them. Gage shows them his car, saying he’ll pay them if they fix it and they’re free to go if they can’t, offering Theo tools and parts. Two of the River Boys get into a fight. Gage puts a stop to it by striking one of them on the back of the leg with a spanner and stalks the other one outside. Theo tells Sonny they should go, but quickly changes his mind when Lacey asks him to look at her car.
Kirby points out to Remi that Sonny has apologised. Remi notes that was only after he cut him off but acknowledges Sonny was up front about being after his money and at least most of his mates aren’t after a payout. He asks what she wanted to talk about and Kirby says it doesn’t matter, although she does say Justin agreed to be her manager. Justin turns up at that point and, despite Kirby frantically gesturing for him to be quiet, suggests Remi sit down to chat about Kirby’s future as he’s bankrolling it.
Sonny approaches Theo and quietly tells him that he overheard that the cars are for street racing. Theo ignores him and carries on working on Lacey’s car, getting it started. Lacey says it takes more than changing a sparkplug to impress her and Theo offers her a regular service, before asking for her number. Lacey enters it in his phone as Your New Crush. Sonny suggests they get back to Gage’s car. They see Gage snuggle up to Lacey before lifting her up and kissing her.
Cash turns up at the coffee cart and greets Irene, asking about her break and calling her an institution around there. Irene gets him to run on and comments to Dana that being called an institution makes her feel old. She’s also worried that everyone knows she went to rehab. Her phone goes off with an alert for her power walk. Dana suggests she takes it to the Diner. She gets a call from Harper, and Irene tells her to take it and meet her there.
Gage pays Theo and Sonny for fixing the boost leak with Theo noting the money’s a lot for an afternoon’s work. Gage says there’s more if they want it. They leave, with Theo shooting a look back at Lacey. Gage tells him next time they’ll keep it professional but Theo doesn’t want to go back, especially when it’s likely some of the cars are stolen. Gage agrees. Theo asks if Gage is planning to sleep in his car again and insists he take the spare room at his place.
Kirby frantically insists to Remi that she’s fine if he says no but Remi says he’s in, pointing out Kirby’s kept the roof over their head. Justin says they’ll set up a way for him to share the profits. Remi asks what exactly he’s funding and they tell him about the EP plans. Remi offers his services as a studio muso and says it calls for champagne. Justin hasn’t brought any so Kirby gets beers from the fridge.
At the Diner, Rose is on the phone to Sarge, who is asking her for a favour. Dana comes in and asks if she’s seen Irene but Rose says not since that morning. Rose goes round to see Cash and comments that one of the worst parts of climbing the ranks is having to break bad news. Cash thinks she’s there to tell him he didn’t get the promotion. Rose, smiling, asks if she said that and they hug each other in delight, with Rose saying she knew he’d get it.
Irene comes into Salt, looking at the bar and a customer’s drink. Eden asks if she can get her anything and Irene snaps to give her a moment. Eden says to let her know when she’s ready. Ashen-faced, Irene stalks over to the bar and sits down.
