Roo asks Cash to help with Eliza. Levi and Dean butt heads. Kirby offers Justin a proposition.
Extended Summary
Justin finds Cash going for a run on the beach. Kirby joins them as Cash explains about applying for a promotion to Rose’s old job. After Cash has moved on, Kirby comments on him and Rose both going after what they want. She asks about Theo not being with Justin, and Justin explains about him having his head in the car. He concludes from Kirby’s attitude that the board shop isn’t doing it for her.
Up at the surf club, Roo asks Tane about Scott, who is with his mother. They both try asking Eliza about what she did. Tane reminds her what he said about staying in control but Eliza thinks sometimes there’s a reason to act the way she did. Roo decides to take her home and Tane agrees. Cash, who has arrived during the latter stages of the conversation, asks what’s going on.
At a hotel in Queensland, Mackenzie comes out of the pool and Levi arrives with drinks. They both talk about loving it there but also express disappointment about how things went with Dean. Levi recalls how Eden had a hard time accepting them at first as well and says Dean’s just being protective. Back at the house, Dean is tossing empty cans into a bin. Ziggy is unimpressed with his behaviour, saying she wants Izzy to know her aunt and also the baby she’s carrying now…which they didn’t even get to tell Mackenzie about, since Dean was too busy jumping on Levi. Dean tries to stop Ziggy lifting the bin and she snaps that she’s twelve weeks pregnant, not thirty.
Roo and Eliza turn up at the caravan park house and Marilyn comments that they’re back early. Eliza says she had a fight with the same guy. Marilyn tries to kindly ask what happened and Eliza bluntly says he took her phone so she broke a bottle and threatened him, which gives Marilyn pause. Roo says Eliza can’t handle things like that and Eliza says the phone is special because she gave it to her.
At Salt, Abigail is telling Kirby about her continued issues with Mali, who then arrives. Kirby notes she’s glad not to be in the middle of them at work but hopes they work it through. After Kirby has gone, Mali approaches Abigail and says he and Levi were both concerned about her being out at the farm on her own: Not because he doesn’t trust her but because he cares about her.
Roo turns up at the Newman house. Tane worries she’s there to ask if Eliza can stay in the programme but Roo explains she’s there to talk to Cash so Tane leaves them to it. Roo explains that Eliza isn’t listening to her but might listen to Cash if he turns up in uniform. Cash isn’t so sure but Roo can’t think of anything else. Back at the house, Marilyn tries to ask Eliza about what happened with Scott but Eliza just says he was bugging her, like Marilyn is now. Roo and Cash turn up but Eliza looks scared at the sight of Cash and flees the room.
Levi leads Mackenzie, with his hand over her eyes, up to a veranda where he has an expensive-looking cold buffet set up. He notes they didn’t get to eat at Dean’s place so he’s ordered a snack. Back in Summer Bay, Roo says Eliza has shut herself in her room and admits she made the wrong call. Cash says sometimes foster kids have been dragged away from their family by the police and asks about her case. Roo knows Eliza has no siblings but doesn’t know about her parents or how she ended up in care. Cash says to call him if she needs anything else. Roo tells Marilyn she wishes she knew how to support Eliza.
At the board shop, Kirby is showing Justin her song book. She hastily hides it as Mali appears. Justin tells her to not stop writing, although maybe out of work hours. Kirby assures Mali she’s on top of everything, including a customer that wants a board. Mali says he has to go and start a class. Abigail appears with food. Kirby asks if there’s anything for her and doesn’t get a laugh so goes to start the class. Abigail says it’s a peace offering and that she might have been judgemental before but isn’t used to someone caring about her. They note they can make up more tonight.
Levi tries to interest Mackenzie in island tours, diving lessons or reef trips but Mackenzie is worried about the fact Dean hates them and isn’t up for being distracted. Levi suggests she could go back without him but Mackenzie doesn’t think that would solve anything. While she goes in the shower, Levi takes her phone from her bag.
Dean takes the call from Mackenzie’s phone but hangs up when he learns it’s Levi. Karen brings beers for herself and Dean, and Ziggy declines an offer of a soft drink. Dean thinks Mackenzie and Levi won’t last but Ziggy says they’ve already lasted over a year. Karen is thrown by this, noting she might have been hard on Levi since if it was just a fling he’d have dumped her by now. Ziggy agrees they’re serious and goes to see to Izzy. Karen tells Dean she likes the idea of him having a sister and maybe a brother-in-law, and if he asks Mackenzie to choose she might not choose him.
Roo is waiting in a park area as Cash turns up and wonders why he wanted to meet there. Cash says he’s done some unofficial digging into Eliza’s history: The police had to forcibly remove her from her parents and she ended up in the care of her grandmother. She ended up in foster care after her grandmother died falling down the stairs at home: Eliza was found hiding in the wardrobe and had to be dragged out by the police.
Dean and Ziggy are leaving Izzy with Karen, saying she doesn’t eat anything orange and likes the aeroplane book. Ziggy admits she’s looking forward to a child-free week. Mackenzie and Levi turn up and Mackenzie thanks the pair for inviting them back. Dean suggests they should get to know each other and see more of Queensland, and Ziggy suggests a road trip for the four of them. Levi agrees.
Eliza is sitting on the stairs. Marilyn manages to coax her into the living area by telling her Cash is gone. Roo arrives back and tells Eliza she heard about what happened to her grandmother. Eliza says it was really horrible, the police took her away from her and she misses her. Roo gives her a hug. Eliza smiles at Marilyn, which seems to leave her feeling disconcerted.
Outside the surf club, Kirby expresses her frustrations to Justin that she’s gone to Mali’s place to pick up a surf board for a customer that isn’t coming. She admits Justin was right that the board shop isn’t doing it for her anymore. Justin wonders if she could do music without the band. Kirby considers going solo again but says she’d need a manager. A few hints later, Justin realises she’s asking him.
Marilyn is at the Diner looking nervous when Cash comes in. She asks why Eliza hasn’t been charged with threatening someone. Cash says Scott and his family don’t want the police involved. He agrees Eliza’s troubled but thinks she needs support, not jail time, and says there’s nothing he can do.
