Extended Summary

Kirby is standing on the beach, staring out to sea. Rose joins her and asks if she wants a coffee. Kirby says things are weird between her and Theo and she doesn’t know why: They haven’t argued. John approaches and asks them about divvying up the prize, suggesting they go on a cruise together. Rose says she needs to check with work and Kirby says she needs to check with the band. After John has gone, Kirby wonders when they’re going to tell him they aren’t going with him.

The two head back to the Diner flat for the coffee and find Stacey making breakfast in her underwear. She explains Xander said they had the flat to themselves and calls out to him to put some clothes on and get out there. She and Kirby introduce each other. Xander appears and Stacey explains she was making them breakfast in bed. They take the tray and retreat into the bedroom.

Leah is passing Theo tools at the garage. Justin returns and notes he already has an apprentice. Leah takes Justin aside and quietly tells him Theo was asking about marriage, wondering if he’s planning to propose to Kirby. Justin asks Theo straight out and Theo explains that Kirby’s the one who wants to get married and was talking about her wedding. He can’t see himself ever getting married and isn’t sure how to tell her.

At the Diner, Roo admits to Marilyn that they need the full amount to get the food truck kitted out. Marilyn says she’s been wracking her brains trying to think of a way but can’t think of anything. Neither are sure about asking the community again. John, who has been observing the conversation, goes to the counter. Irene wearily asks him what coffee he wants this time. John, distracted, says to surprise him and asks what’s up with Roo and Marilyn. Irene explains about them not hitting their target. John asks how much they’re short.

Kirby and Rose are playing pool. Kirby is still concerned about Theo, saying he went to work rather than talk to her. Rose complains about people avoiding issues and Kirby wonders if she’s projecting. Rose admits she thinks Xander is ignoring the fact that he and Stacey want different things out of the relationship. She advises Kirby to talk to Theo, but before she can leave, John appears and says he needs to talk to them both.

Theo tells Leah and Justin about what Kirby said about her dad making a speech at her wedding. Leah wonders if his experience with his parents is why he’s against marrying. Justin says he might change his mind and Leah says he might not and that’s okay. Leah thinks Theo should talk to Kirby but Justin isn’t convinced. Leah thinks having hard conversations is what makes a couple. Theo realises what Justin is thinking: It could break them up.

Stacey is leading a class including Xander near the beach, while Rose looks on. After she ends the class, Xander quips about Stacey going easy on him and she says she likes making him sweat. Xander suggests they meet up later. As he leaves, Stacey notices one of the other classmembers is looking tight and helps him stretch. Rose looks on disapprovingly. Stacey notices and asks her what her problem is. Rose agrees they should talk.

Kirby is working on the computer in the surf club office with John encouraging her to sell a dream, checking Rose is fine with selling the holiday. He looks over her shoulder and asks if that’s how you spell “mojitos” (which he pronounces with a J sound). Kirby says that’s how she spells it, then apologises for being short. John asks if she wants to talk about it but then Theo turns up and suggests they go back to hers to talk. John watches them for a moment before noticing alerts coming in on the computer.

Theo and Kirby head back to the Lyrik house where Theo admits Justin didn’t call him in to work. He says he doesn’t want to get married. Kirby says she does one day but it’s way in the future, noting her dad wants her to be happy like him and her mum. Theo says her parents weren’t like that. Kirby notes he doesn’t talk about them much and she knows he doesn’t get on with his dad. She says she’d like to hear if he wants to tell her and Theo starts to explain how his dad used to lash out when things were tense.

Rose and Stacey are at Salt. Rose is worried things won’t end well for Xander. Stacey realises Xander hasn’t spoken to Rose and tells her about giving their relationship a go. Rose doesn’t think Stacey can change like that and Stacey thinks she can’t win with Rose. Xander turns up and Rose leaves.

As Rose comes downstairs, John tells her that the holiday sold for more than they expected. They chat about the decision to sell it before Rose leaves. John announces it’s time to make things happen and gets his phone out.

At the Diner, Alf and Roo discuss possibly setitng up a crowdfunding page. John comes in and again only gives Irene a simple coffee order. Roo tells Alf and Marilyn that they’ve had an anonymous donation come through for $5000. Marilyn is surprised that that’s the exact amount. Irene looks at John thoughtfully.

Theo and Kirby chat about how John was the first person he spoke to about his dad and how he used to blame himself. He apologises for shutting her down and Kirby thanks him for trusting her. Rose interrupts them kissing and tries to leave but Theo says he has to check in with work anyway. Rose and Kirby chat about Stacey.

At the Morgan house, Justin asks if there’s any cake but Leah says he needs to pace himself because she’s making a cake for Tane and Felicity’s wedding and needs him as a taster. Theo turns up and confirms he’s spoken to Kirby and they’ve sorted it. After Theo’s gone to get ready for TAFE, Justin says one day Leah will beg him to marry her. Leah says they’ll see.

Irene serves Xander coffee and he says one’s for Stacey and that being just friends only lasted a day. Irene is bemused that they’re a couple again, especially since Xander says they’re not putting a label on it. Nearby, Alf and Marilyn say goodbye to Roo, who is going to the city to get the truck kitted out. Marilyn says she wishes she knew who made the donation so she could thank them but Alf appreciates how they’re humble. Irene privately asks John if he knows anything about it. John just asks for another free coffee and Irene gives a small smile.

Rose has told Kirby about her suspicions of Stacey and how she doesn’t want to talk to Xander about it. Kirby thinks if Rose thinks something’s up then it probably is. Meanwhile, Xander and Stacey arrive back at the Diner flat and Xander promises that Rose isn’t there. Stacey says she tried to clear the air with Rose but it’s clear they’re not going to be BFFs. Rose comes home and says she’s just getting a drink. Stacey gets a text and immediately replies. Xander invites her to watch a movie. Stacey gets another text and says it’s just a client. Rose retreats to the bedroom and alters her Smouldr settings to look for women nearby. She finds Stacey’s account still active.
