Extended Summary

Tane finishes off a class near the beach. Rose appears (in uniform) and helps him clear up. She asks what he meant about Tex, saying she hasn’t seen him since: He’s quit his job and isn’t answering her calls. She notes she checked him out and it’s like he doesn’t exist, asking what Tane knows that she doesn’t. Meanwhile, Xander takes the cling film off his new tattoo and covers it up with his shirt, also binning some tissue covered with ink.

At the Diner, Roo explains to Marilyn that she found yesterday frustrating. She says she doesn’t mind freedom but needs to find something flexible to do in order to still help out at the bait shop. At the surf club, Tane asks Nikau if he’s seen Tex, who he hasn’t heard from since he spoke to him last week. Nikau thinks that’s a good thing but Tane says he can’t relax until he knows what the gang are doing. He heads into the gym where he ignores Nikau’s protests, shuts himself away in the office and calls Tex.

Rose arrives back at the flat and tells Xander it was a slow night. He mentions spending time with Cash and then tells her that Jasmine’s not coming home. Rose sympathises with Cash and Xander tells her about him going down to see her. Rose gets a call from Tex, saying she was about to go for a swim and will meet him. Xander is surprised but Rose says she can’t sit around worrying about Jasmine and wants to know why Tex was ghosting her. After she leaves, Xander scratches his tattoo nervously.

Rose meets Tex outside the surf club and asks about him quitting his job. Tex says he had some family stuff to deal with and Rose asks about meeting his family. Tex suggests they get breakfast and go for a swim. Rose says they’ll meet after he’s gone to the gym. After Tex has gone inside, Rose calls someone and does a check on Tex’s car registration. She learns it’s registered to a Lee Wheeler and asks for an address.

Nikau thinks they should let sleeping dogs lie. Tex arrives and Tane agrees to talk. Nikau leaves, disgruntled. Tane asks Tex for details of the deal going down this week. Tex says Tane has to make money disappear through the gym’s accounts. Tane says he doesn’t know how to do that and Tex says they’ll put someone in the gym who’ll do it. Tane asks when he gets to meet them and Tex says in a couple of hours.

Marilyn suggests Roo join a club like bushwalking. Roo doesn’t seem keen and gives a similar reaction when Marilyn suggests art classes. Alf arrives and Roo tells him she’s going birdwatching. Alf asks Marilyn what’s going on. Marilyn admits Roo’s not enjoying her free time. Alf tracks Roo down to Salt and says she won’t find many birds in there. She asks to work at the bait shop but he tells her she needs to find own thing. He notes she’s always enjoyed helping people and suggests she go back to teaching.

Tex exits the surf club, smirking at Nikau. Nikau tries to question Tane about what he’s done. Tane says they’ll talk later. Meanwhile, Rose finds Xander sitting on a bench and guesses he’s thinking about Jasmine. He says he hasn’t heard from her or Cash and asks about Tex. Rose says she’s meeting him at their place and Xander agrees to let her have the place to herself for a while.

Rose lets Tex into the flat but pulls back when he approaches her, saying she knows he’s a bikie. She asks if getting together with her was a challenge or a dare. Tex says it started off like that but things changed once he got to know her. He asks if they can work it out and they kiss. Rose asks for some time to get her head around it. Downstairs, Roo jovially chides Marilyn for blabbing to Alf then thanks her, since talking to him clarified things. She asks to use the notice board and puts up a sign offering herself as a tutor for high school, uni, TAFE and adult education.

Outside the surf club, Rose gets Tex to promise no more silent treatment and says they’ll keep who he really is from everyone else. Tex drives off. Outside the Parata house, Nikau continues to berate Tane for agreeing to work with the bikers. He asks Tane why he’d send Chloe away and then just cave, before revealing he broke up with Bella and now it was all for nothing.

Tane finds Nikau round the back of the house where he explains Bella was talking about coming home and he couldn’t allow that. He tells Tane not to pretend to understand because he doesn’t understand why Tane’s doing what he is. Nikau leaves, saying he has to get back to work. He passes Rose, who approaches Tane saying she knows who Tex is. She asks how Tane fits in, refusing to leave until she knows.
