Extended Summary

Mackenzie approaches Dean on the beach, saying she’s just spoken to Emmett and asking why Dean didn’t tell her Bella and Nikau broke up. Dean hadn’t heard anything about it. Mackenzie says Nikau broke it off and Bella’s devastated. Dean tries to ring Bella but doesn’t get an answer. He storms off to find Nikau.

Felicity finds Tane chatting to Rose outside the house. Tane says she’s helping with their problem. Felicity says she’s going into work. Tane has told Rose about the money laundering. She shows him a photo of Tex’s last known address and asks if it’s where he was taken. Tane says he only saw the inside but it wasn’t a house. Rose notes bikies often put properties and businesses in other people’s names and asks to borrow his phone to check the location data. Tane gets a text from Tex saying he needs to meet his new employee.

At the surf club, John is grumbling to Nikau about the noise at his place from the band. Tane, Tex and a woman arrive and go through to the gym. Nikau tells John she’s the new book-keeper and Chloe’s away. John says she doesn’t have to put up with the racket then. In the gym office, the woman, Genevieve, asks Tane for the account details. Tex suggests he and Tane go for a beer while she’s working and Tane death glares him.

Dean accosts Nikau outside the surf club, demanding an explanation for what he did to Bella, while Mackenzie says they just want to talk. Nikau says to forget it and get out of his face, leaving Dean confused. Back at the gym, Tane queries Genevieve adding a month’s worth of new members. Tex points out that Tane’s never run any other business and to give her space. Tex leaves.

Mackenzie arrives at Salt and Felicity checks she’s doing the invoices right. Although Mackenzie confirms she is, Felicity wonders if she’s more suited to the events side of the business. Mackenzie talks to her about Nikau. Felicity was also unaware that he and Bella had broken up and says he’d struggled not having her around, suggesting they didn’t find long distance easy.

Outside, Nikau runs into Tex, who asks after Chloe and says New Zealand must be nice this time of year. Dean comes along as Nikau objects to Tex calling him a kid, prompting Tex to refer to him as a hothead. Dean demands Nikau comes upstairs for a chat, telling a bemused John he’s borrowing him for half an hour.

Felicity serves Dean a beer. Nikau declines one, saying he’s still working. Felicity asks Mackenzie to hold the fort, wanting to go and check on Tane. Nikau tries to dissuade her, saying it’s not a good time, but she goes anyway. Dean tries to question Nikau about Bella. Nikau says Dean usually talks with his fists. Dean asks if he cheated. Nikau suggests he’s just sick of her not being around and insists they’re done. Felicity goes to the gym and finds Genevieve in the office. Tane takes her aside and Felicity realises Genevieve is “one of them”. Tane convinces her to leave and goes back into the office.

In her flat, Rose views Leigh Wheeler’s criminal record on her laptop. Tex turns up with a six-pack and bottle of wine. Rose lets him in and closes the laptop. Tex says he knows seeing him is risky for Rose and wants to check she’s sure. Rose says she doesn’t want it to end but has to go into work to do paperwork so her sergeant doesn’t look at her too closely. Tex kisses her goodbye, leaving the wine.

At the surf club, Tex is playing pool while Nikau watches him. John asks Nikau about the shed audit. Nikau goes over to the table and stops Tex’s game, demanding to know what he’s doing there. Tex says he should have learned from Ari not to poke the bear. Tane and Felicity appear as Nikau is getting aggressive and send him outside.

Nikau, Tane and Felicity walk back to the house. Tane tells Nikau to keep a lid on it and admits to Felicity that Genevieve is sorting out the books. Nikau accuses him of giving up and storms towards the house. Tane tells Felicity he can’t deal with him right now. On the balcony at Salt, Dean finishes a phone call with Bella and tells Mackenzie she’s devastated and has decided to stay in New York.

Tane and Felicity are setting the table while Nikau is convinced the bikies have got them for good now. Tane gets a call from Rose and heads out. Felicity mentions Tane talking to Rose before. Nikau worries the police are onto the bikies and think Tane’s a part of it. Tane meets Rose at the police station and she goes into the back room. She tells him Tex has a history of aggravated assault, armed robbery and extortion. She shows him a list of Tex’s known associates, including Marty, who’s done kidnapping, firearms and attempted murder. She asks Tane how far he’s willing to go to end it. Tane says whatever it takes.

Next morning, Nikau is carrying out his taiaha rituals outside the house. Felicity appears and asks if he’s seen Tane, who wasn’t there when she woke up. At the bikies’ hideout, Marty asks Tex about Rose and Tex jovially notes she doesn’t like outlaws. They hear a commotion outside and find another gang member with Tane, saying he found him outside the gate. Marty sarcastically calls it a nice surprise.
