Extended Summary

Chloe comes into the surf club and finds Ryder asleep behind the board shop counter. She wakes him and he instinctively goes into a spiel about the shop before realising. Chloe tries to get him to rest but he says he’s covering for someone who was meant to be covering for someone else. Chloe refuses to give him his car keys since he’s too tired. At the Morgan house, Theo asks Justin for another sandwich and Justin complains that he’s only just put everything away. Leah tells him to do it and she’ll clean up, Justin suggests Theo make it himself and Theo is happy to have free access to the cupboards. Leah realises Chloe has brought her the wrong paperwork so she has to go back to the Diner. Theo decides to go with her and, after trying to get him to stay, Justin decides they should all go.

At the Diner, Alf and Roo tease John about his struggles to offload his tickets. Leah, Justin and Theo arrive and Marilyn welcomes Theo back. He says someone tried to carjack his car with him inside it. John calls it karma but Theo apologises to him for what he said before. Marilyn offers to get him something to eat and Theo asks for a burger, which Leah agrees to after Justin tries to say he won’t be there that long. Justin goes outside and Alf follows, asking if he believes Theo’s story. Justin doesn’t trust him and Alf notes he’s going to have to deal with that if Leah’s committed to helping him. Alf suggests Justin follow his gut but also notes Kieran surprised him.

Roo joins Martha at Salt and says they’ve sold their first table to John. Ryder comes in and Martha asks if they need to hire additional staff for the event. Ryder says Mackenzie will look after that and to talk to her about it. Alf appears and tries to get Ryder to get some sleep. Ryder says he has to accept a delivery for the board shop. He heads downstairs where John gives him Dean’s mail and tries to get him to accept the tickets for him and Chloe, saying he can pay him back whenever. Alf, Roo and Martha appear and Martha thanks John for buying the table, asking him for the names of his guests so she can write out place cards. John says he’ll get back to her.

Chloe serves Theo. He initially says his meal was good then, on learning she didn’t make it, says it was average. Leah asks Chloe to keep an eye on Theo, since they’re the same age. Theo comes over and asks Chloe to show him the sights. Chloe says she’s working but he can stay there while she does, adding that she finishes work at 6…am, explaining about running an after hours delivery service with her boyfriend. Justin comes in and tries to get Theo to come with him and Leah, worried that he’s bothering Chloe. Leah takes Justin outside and suggests he has trust issues because of Susie. Justin is convinced there’s something wrong with Theo but Leah is determined to help him, reminding Justin how many chances she gave him. She convinces him they should have a family dinner together.

Ryder arrives at the Diner, still looking exhausted. Theo is amused that he’s Chloe’s boyfriend and Chloe introduces them. Marilyn agrees that Ryder looks tired. Chloe tells him to go home and get some rest; she’ll do the meals and he can meet her to help with deliveries. Theo tells Chloe she can do better but Chloe tells him that Ryder’s holding down three jobs, one for free to help a mate, which is three more than him. Meanwhile, Alf, Roo and Martha are outside the caravan park house, discussing promoting tickets at the art class, surf club and Salt, as well as sponsorship. They hear a crash and find Ryder has driven into an easel. He asks why it was in the driveway and Alf points out it isn’t. He refuses to let Ryder leave without a proper sleep. Ryder says everyone is counting on him but eventually gives in.

Theo is telling Chloe and Marilyn the story about fighting off car jackers as Justin turns up, saying Leah wants him home. Marilyn expresses her sympathy about the experience. Justin suggests taking Theo down the station to photograph his injuries, shutting down Theo’s suggestion that he just send them some. Justin realises he hasn’t spoken to the police. They go for a walk on the pier and Theo admits the beating was payback for the insurance scam after he went back home. He insists it’s done now.

Marilyn continues to express sympathy about Theo but Chloe thinks he enjoyed telling the story; both agree he was hitting on Chloe. She isn’t looking forward to doing the meals on her own so Marilyn offers to stay and help. Meanwhile, Justin and Theo arrive home. Leah has prepared spanakopita, delighting Theo. She asks what took them so long. Justin just says they got talking and he showed Theo the sights.

In his office at the surf club, John is ringing round about the tickets and learns Alf invited the whole committee to share his own table. Back at the Morgan house, Justin suggests he and Theo do the dishes. Theo agrees but Leah tells him to rest and she’ll do it. After he’s gone to his room, Justin tells her the truth about Theo’s injuries. He suggests the guys might come to the house. Leah still wants to help Theo but Justin thinks he’s putting everyone in the house at risk.

Next morning, Leah meets Theo by the beach and tells him that Justin told her the truth. Theo continues to insist it’s over but Leah says he can’t stay with them: He’s putting everyone at risk, including Grace. Theo bitterly says it’s not her problem and walks off. Later, Justin hears Leah leaving another voicemail. She tells him she can afford for Theo to stay in a motel. Justin protests that he’s an adult but Leah says adults need help too.

Chloe is outside the Diner, leaving a message for Ryder saying she’s been waiting half an hour and if they don’t get the orders out now they’ll have to give a refund. Theo pulls up next to her and offers to help. Chloe isn’t keen but accepts she has no choice.
